0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. It's getting towards the end of February, but it's certainly

0:00:05 > 0:00:07felt much more like spring this weekend than winter.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10The reason is purely down to our wind direction.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12It's been coming off the Atlantic.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16Very mild air blanketing the country, but as you can see,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18the week ahead shows some changes.

0:00:18 > 0:00:22We'll see this cold air meandering its way south then northwards again.

0:00:22 > 0:00:26So we will see a seesawing in our temperatures as we head

0:00:26 > 0:00:28through the next five days.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31The reason? We've got the jet stream, the zonal jet stream,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34which is driving our weather front from west to east.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37At times, we'll be in the cold air to the north and at times,

0:00:37 > 0:00:38the milder air to the south.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42But all the time, we'll see a daisy chain of weather fronts

0:00:42 > 0:00:44delivering rain and, at times, wind across the UK.

0:00:44 > 0:00:48Through Monday, we start on a very blustery note for the east of

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Scotland, north-east England.

0:00:50 > 0:00:54Gusts of wind up to 50mph contending with some rain and some

0:00:54 > 0:00:56hill fog as well. There'll be some coastal and hill fog further south.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59So it'll be quite a grey start to the day.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02But, if the sun comes out in the south, it's here we could see

0:01:02 > 0:01:06temperatures achieving perhaps 16 or 17 degrees Celsius.

0:01:06 > 0:01:10It's fresher air, though, by that stage across the north of Scotland.

0:01:10 > 0:01:11That's behind this weather front.

0:01:11 > 0:01:15We could see a touch of frost on Monday night into Tuesday morning

0:01:15 > 0:01:18across the glens of Scotland, whilst the mild air

0:01:18 > 0:01:21holds firm across the southern half of the country.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23We've got the next low pressure starting to march in late Tuesday.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25But, at least between those two, for a time,

0:01:25 > 0:01:28there'll be some brighter weather around.

0:01:28 > 0:01:29As I say, though, temporarily,

0:01:29 > 0:01:32before that wet and windy weather returns to the north-west

0:01:32 > 0:01:36and we've still got a lot of rain, or cloud at least, in the south.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Gusts start to lift up in the north.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40That's because of the approach of this low pressure,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43which could give us our first spell of gales, or severe gales.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46That's the first area of low pressure we're watching.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48You can see how tightly packed the isobars are.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Behind it, there's some really cold air nipping in.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52So some Arctic air, potentially.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55But still in the south, we've got that band of cloud

0:01:55 > 0:01:58with outbreaks of rain and really quite mild air.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01The 7 in the north, with that Arctic air coming in,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03will feel considerably colder

0:02:03 > 0:02:06because of course, as well as that, it's blowing a gale.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Thursday is the next area of low pressure that we're watching.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10This could, again,

0:02:10 > 0:02:13be a very deep area of low pressure giving us gales or severe gales.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Its track is uncertain, that is the main concern.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17But it could be that central and southern areas see

0:02:17 > 0:02:19those gales on Thursday.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22And, because we've got that cold air established in the north,

0:02:22 > 0:02:25when the weather front comes in, we could well see some snow for a time.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26Not just as it comes in,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29but also on the north-westerly wind following on behind.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32We're into the colder air by the end of the week

0:02:32 > 0:02:35as that low pressure whisks out the way into Scandinavia.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Friday looks like probably

0:02:37 > 0:02:39the driest and brightest day of the week.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41It starts on a cold note,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44temperatures won't be exceptionally high, only 7 to 10 degrees Celsius,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46but with lighter winds and sunshine, not too bad.

0:02:46 > 0:02:51But already by Friday we've got that next weather front not too far away.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55So looking further ahead, this pattern of our meandering jet stream

0:02:55 > 0:02:59and our mild and cold air continues out to day ten as well.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02So that means the weather will continue to be changeable

0:03:02 > 0:03:05with spells of wet and windy weather into the north-west.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07When we've got the brighter spells,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09the lower temperatures, it could look like this.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11When we've got the milder air, leaden skies,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13a lot of cloud and some rain.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17At times, there will be further spells of windy weather with

0:03:17 > 0:03:19some gales, potentially.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20But temperatures will be higher,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24so we'll continue that seesaw as we go through to the end of the period.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Plenty going on, very changeable weather.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29You can find more on the website.
