0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello. It wasn't quite a record breaker,

0:00:03 > 0:00:06but Monday certainly had many of us casting off the layers.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08Temperatures boosted up to around 18 Celsius

0:00:08 > 0:00:12in and around the London area. 18 is 64 in Fahrenheit.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14And even across other parts of eastern Wales,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16central and eastern England, into eastern Scotland,

0:00:16 > 0:00:19we got temperatures well into the mid teens. So why so warm?

0:00:19 > 0:00:21It's all down to the where the air came from.

0:00:21 > 0:00:26Over the past few days we've seen an area of warm tropical maritime air

0:00:26 > 0:00:28push from the Caribbean towards our shores,

0:00:28 > 0:00:32making it feel more like May, rather than the middle of February.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35However, February wants its weather back

0:00:35 > 0:00:36and it will get it later this week.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39We change our air mass, coming in from a northwesterly direction -

0:00:39 > 0:00:42polar maritime air and you will notice the chill

0:00:42 > 0:00:45compared with how we've started the week. That's a few days away.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47At the moment, though, we've still got our winds

0:00:47 > 0:00:49coming in from the west, off the Atlantic

0:00:49 > 0:00:50and still to a certain degree

0:00:50 > 0:00:51some tropical maritime air

0:00:51 > 0:00:53running around the northern flank

0:00:53 > 0:00:55of this high-pressure system

0:00:55 > 0:00:56into the south of the UK,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58but a weather front is remaining

0:00:58 > 0:00:59through much of Tuesday,

0:00:59 > 0:01:00bringing lots of cloud.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02Misty around western coasts and hills

0:01:02 > 0:01:03and occasional rain or drizzle.

0:01:03 > 0:01:04Bright enough starts,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06but cooler for parts of northern England,

0:01:06 > 0:01:07Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09but through the day we start to see wetter

0:01:09 > 0:01:11and windier weather spread in from the west.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13The temperatures still well above

0:01:13 > 0:01:14where they should be for the time of year.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16Not quite as warm as Monday,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18but with breaks to the east of Wales,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20to the Midlands and parts of eastern England,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22we could still hit around 15 degrees.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23That warm air is contained

0:01:23 > 0:01:25within these two weather fronts

0:01:25 > 0:01:27but through the night and into Wednesday

0:01:27 > 0:01:29the focus is turned to an area of low pressure

0:01:29 > 0:01:31pushing past the north of Scotland.

0:01:31 > 0:01:32Strong to gale force

0:01:32 > 0:01:33if not severe gale force winds

0:01:33 > 0:01:34of 60 or 70 miles an hour gusts

0:01:34 > 0:01:35across the far north

0:01:35 > 0:01:37and northeast through Wednesday.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Bright with blustery showers,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41some of those turning increasingly wintry

0:01:41 > 0:01:43as cold air works its way southwards.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44Still, though, in the milder conditions

0:01:44 > 0:01:46across the southernmost parts of the UK,

0:01:46 > 0:01:47here we stay with the cloud,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49outbreaks of rain on and off throughout.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51Temperatures, though, back where they should be

0:01:51 > 0:01:53for the northern half of the country.

0:01:53 > 0:01:54The one, though, to watch

0:01:54 > 0:01:56this week is the what happens between Wednesday and Thursday.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Still a huge amount of uncertainty,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00the exact depth of this low-pressure system, its exact track,

0:02:00 > 0:02:02but it could bring some fairly stormy weather

0:02:02 > 0:02:04across the UK, especially for England

0:02:04 > 0:02:05and Wales on Thursday.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06On the northern flank of it,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08cold air digging in,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10potentially bringing some significant snow,

0:02:10 > 0:02:11so if you've got any plans

0:02:11 > 0:02:12to be on the move on Thursday,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14stay very close to the latest forecast

0:02:14 > 0:02:16before you head off.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Those winds will certainly be noticeable

0:02:18 > 0:02:20and around it we'll be dragging in colder

0:02:20 > 0:02:22and colder air which will work

0:02:22 > 0:02:24its way towards the south later in the day.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27So that area of low pressure pushes off, the winds go into

0:02:27 > 0:02:29a northerly direction, they ease down a little bit

0:02:29 > 0:02:31and a chilly start to Friday.

0:02:31 > 0:02:32But Friday compared with Thursday,

0:02:32 > 0:02:33a good deal quieter,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35the showers we see running down

0:02:35 > 0:02:36in that northwesterly air flow will be

0:02:36 > 0:02:39a mixture of rain, sleet and hill snow

0:02:39 > 0:02:41and temperatures well down

0:02:41 > 0:02:42on how we started the week

0:02:42 > 0:02:44by, for some, a good 10 degrees.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46So we finish Friday with quieter weather,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48a ridge of high pressure

0:02:48 > 0:02:49gives us some frost to take us

0:02:49 > 0:02:50into the start of Saturday,

0:02:50 > 0:02:51but as Atlantic air starts

0:02:51 > 0:02:53to push its way in again,

0:02:53 > 0:02:54hitting that cold air,

0:02:54 > 0:02:55again there could be a spell of snow,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57particularly on the hills of northern UK.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59Most, though, wet and windy day

0:02:59 > 0:03:01after a reasonably bright start.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03Temperatures will be boosted

0:03:03 > 0:03:05just a little bit, a little sliver of milder air,

0:03:05 > 0:03:06colder conditions, then, for Sunday

0:03:06 > 0:03:09and then we've got this alternating pattern,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11all down to a fluctuating jet stream -

0:03:11 > 0:03:13this big undulating pattern here,

0:03:13 > 0:03:17it sets us up for the end of the month remaining fairly changeable,

0:03:17 > 0:03:21so temperatures will be up and down from one day to the next.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22We'll continue to see some spells

0:03:22 > 0:03:24of wind and rain pushing its way

0:03:24 > 0:03:26through and in those quieter moments

0:03:26 > 0:03:27with the sunshine

0:03:27 > 0:03:28there's occasional

0:03:28 > 0:03:29night-time frost too.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30Bye for now.
