0:00:02 > 0:00:03Batten down the hatches -

0:00:03 > 0:00:06before we talk about the weather for the next few days,

0:00:06 > 0:00:09we must focus on Storm Doris approaching our shores -

0:00:09 > 0:00:13powerful storm, and it could be a troublesome day on Thursday,

0:00:13 > 0:00:16with disruption and, potentially, structural damage.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19Now, the storm is still developing towards the west of us.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22This was earlier on - a nasty area of low pressure

0:00:22 > 0:00:24being driven by a jet stream, as well.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27Very complicated meteorology happening here right now,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30as I speak, but that storm will be developing,

0:00:30 > 0:00:31heading towards our shores,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33and just as it crosses the UK,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35it will be at its most intense,

0:00:35 > 0:00:36and that's why we are concerned

0:00:36 > 0:00:38that some of those winds could cause problems.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40But we've also got some snow on the way,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42so, it's a double whammy with this weather system.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44The snow, admittedly, will fall

0:00:44 > 0:00:47across southern and perhaps some central parts of Scotland,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49so that's the only area where we are expecting

0:00:49 > 0:00:51the potential for disruptive snow -

0:00:51 > 0:00:53but there is an amber warning in force

0:00:53 > 0:00:54from the Met Office.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56Now, it looks like the Southern Uplands,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58the Lowlands of Scotland could get some of that snow -

0:00:58 > 0:01:01particularly around the outskirts of Glasgow and Edinburgh

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and some of us, yes, Scotland

0:01:03 > 0:01:05may be waking up to scenes like this

0:01:05 > 0:01:08first thing on Thursday morning. So, the snow is in the north.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09The worst of the winds

0:01:09 > 0:01:12will be a little bit towards the south of that.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15North-western England, Wales, the north of England,

0:01:15 > 0:01:18the Midlands and also into East Anglia.

0:01:18 > 0:01:19Yet another warning -

0:01:19 > 0:01:21this is an amber warning for the high winds.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Let's concentrate on these high winds,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26because, unusually, we are going to see severe gales

0:01:26 > 0:01:28and even storm force winds inland at times.

0:01:28 > 0:01:3070 to 80mph gusts.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31These sorts of winds we get

0:01:31 > 0:01:33off the north-west coast of Scotland, rarely inland.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Towards the south 50, 60mph

0:01:35 > 0:01:38will also potentially cause some problems.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40So, we could have some trees down,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43certainly potential for high sided vehicles being overturned

0:01:43 > 0:01:44in those sorts of winds.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Some of us will have some fence panels down.

0:01:46 > 0:01:47If you're very unlucky,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50we could this see some pretty significant structural damage

0:01:50 > 0:01:53in one or two locations - and then, later on Thursday,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55the worst of the winds are across Lincolnshire,

0:01:55 > 0:01:56parts of East Anglia,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59a real sting in the tail of that storm,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02and then, later on Thursday, towards midnight,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04that storm pulls away.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06The isobars, as you can see, open up here.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08That means the winds will be lighter

0:02:08 > 0:02:10and we're done with the storm.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Now, Friday, we have a different story

0:02:12 > 0:02:14in the north-west of the country,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17also increasing winds here, but also some outbreaks of rain.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20A much, much calmer day across England and Wales.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22A little on the cool side in the north -

0:02:22 > 0:02:24temperatures only around 5 or 6 degrees Celsius -

0:02:24 > 0:02:26and then, as far as the weekend goes,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28we have weather fronts crossing the UK.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30Again, quite a few isobars -

0:02:30 > 0:02:32that means blustery conditions on the way,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35but these are quite mild south-westerly winds,

0:02:35 > 0:02:39so we're talking about temperatures up to 11 degrees,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41even across the north-east of Scotland.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44And notice that rain crossing weather front, there,

0:02:44 > 0:02:45across the north-west of the UK.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48That weather front pulls out towards the east on Sunday,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50and then we have another weather front

0:02:50 > 0:02:51coming our way off the Atlantic.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53So, this is the second one, on Sunday.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56Looks like eastern areas, probably the best of the weather,

0:02:56 > 0:02:57driest of the weather -

0:02:57 > 0:02:59but, for Northern Ireland and Scotland

0:02:59 > 0:03:02eventually there will be some rain on Sunday.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05So, quite a changeable weekend, I think, on the way.

0:03:05 > 0:03:06And here's a look at Monday -

0:03:06 > 0:03:08another big area of low pressure across the Atlantic.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10In fact, that's the same one - it's just, it's a big one,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13it just keeps churning weather fronts

0:03:13 > 0:03:15and sending them in our direction -

0:03:15 > 0:03:17and, to be honest, there's not an awful lot more

0:03:17 > 0:03:20I can say as far as next week's concerned.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22It's just going to stay unsettled,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24more weather fronts coming our way, fairly mild.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27It does look as though things might just settle

0:03:27 > 0:03:29towards the end of the week. Bye-bye.
