0:00:01 > 0:00:04Hello there. For the second part of the weekend,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06we saw the fifth named storm of the season.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08So, I thought I'd start with a quick comparison of

0:00:08 > 0:00:11last season with this season, comparison of the number

0:00:11 > 0:00:14of named storms, because last season was particularly active,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17by the end of February we'd gotten all the way down to I

0:00:17 > 0:00:20in the list and that was Storm Imogen. This season,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23generally speaking, has been that bit quieter.

0:00:23 > 0:00:27We've gotten down to Storm Ewan, only five named storms so far.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30But the last two just happened in the last week and Doris

0:00:30 > 0:00:33certainly packed a punch. But as Ewan moves away,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36we start to see this colder air spreading in across most parts

0:00:36 > 0:00:38of the UK, so it is going to be a chilly old start to the week,

0:00:38 > 0:00:41in fact, cold enough for some patches of ice in the north and west

0:00:41 > 0:00:43of the UK, and from early on, there will be some showers around,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45those showers could be heavy and thundery.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47There will be a real mix of rain, sleet,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49hail and snow over higher ground but there will be some spells of

0:00:49 > 0:00:51sunshine as well,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53the best of that probably into the eastern side of Scotland.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56But it's a chilly day pretty much across the board, single figures

0:00:56 > 0:00:58for most places, five, six or seven quite typical,

0:00:58 > 0:01:01but might just get to double figures in the centre of London.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03And then through the evening, plenty more showers,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06some of those quite wintry, some of that gets down to lower levels.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08It'll be quite wet and windy along the south coast and another

0:01:08 > 0:01:10area of wintry weather into the far north-west.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13But many of the showers in between tend to fade away by

0:01:13 > 0:01:15dawn on Tuesday and it will be cold and frosty,

0:01:15 > 0:01:18particularly in more rural spots, but even in larger towns and cities

0:01:18 > 0:01:19it's only one or two degrees to start the day.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23So, there will be some patches of ice first thing on Tuesday morning,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25a few patches of fog as well, and it's quite windy

0:01:25 > 0:01:27into the north and west of the UK, with an area

0:01:27 > 0:01:30of low pressure here, and that will bring some rain, some sleet

0:01:30 > 0:01:33and some snow over higher ground. A bright start for many central areas

0:01:33 > 0:01:35but cold. I think we will tend to see things clouding over

0:01:35 > 0:01:38through the day, as some showers get going.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41There will be still be a little bit of sunshine here and there

0:01:41 > 0:01:44but most places still feeling quite chilly in that breeze -

0:01:44 > 0:01:47single figures for most of us. And then through Tuesday night

0:01:47 > 0:01:49into Wednesday, we see that weather front head south, it clears

0:01:49 > 0:01:52away towards the near Continent, and then the isobars separate

0:01:52 > 0:01:55a little bit, the winds become a little bit lighter,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57but we are looking towards the south-west for this next

0:01:57 > 0:01:59weather system to slowly push its way in.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01But it should be a decent start for central and eastern areas,

0:02:01 > 0:02:04one or two showers but a lot of drier weather. Turning increasingly

0:02:04 > 0:02:06wet from the south and west and there will be a bit

0:02:06 > 0:02:09of a breeze to go with that. And that area of rain continues

0:02:09 > 0:02:11to journey its way ever northwards, but through the day

0:02:11 > 0:02:13on Thursday, that rain across northern England becomes

0:02:13 > 0:02:15very light and patchy, as the next batch of rain gets into

0:02:15 > 0:02:18Northern Ireland. But I think for the southern half of the UK

0:02:18 > 0:02:20through Thursday, it looks like a decent day.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23It's bright, it's breezy, and we'll see temperatures in double figures,

0:02:23 > 0:02:26I think, quite widely, but still in single figures further north.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28But generally speaking, towards the end of the week,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31we are expecting to see temperatures rise, particularly so

0:02:31 > 0:02:33in the southern half of the UK. And that milder air -

0:02:33 > 0:02:35question marks about just how far north it does go,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38but generally speaking, particularly so in the southern half of the UK,

0:02:38 > 0:02:40turning that bit milder for the end of the week.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43That does come with some weather fronts and they are going

0:02:43 > 0:02:46to bring some rain with them. So it does look as if it will turn

0:02:46 > 0:02:48quite wet during the day on Friday, particularly so across

0:02:48 > 0:02:51England and Wales. And that rain making steady progress

0:02:51 > 0:02:53northwards and eastwards, and it will get up into

0:02:53 > 0:02:57northern England, southern Scotland, Northern Ireland later in the day.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00The far north of Scotland probably staying dry but it may well be

0:03:00 > 0:03:03on the chilly side here. And then into next weekend,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05well, that low-pressure system may well get a bit stuck across

0:03:05 > 0:03:08that central swathe of the UK. It may well turn a

0:03:08 > 0:03:10little bit more vigorous as well. But we might, equally,

0:03:10 > 0:03:12see that area of high pressure to the north-east just drift

0:03:12 > 0:03:15its way a little bit further south and exert its influence over us,

0:03:15 > 0:03:17but generally speaking it looks like low pressure

0:03:17 > 0:03:20will be in charge, even on into the following week,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22which means that it will stay quite changeable.

0:03:22 > 0:03:23There will be some spells of rain at times

0:03:23 > 0:03:25but they will tend to move through, so there will be some

0:03:25 > 0:03:28drier, brighter spells, as well, and always mildest in the south.
