0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hi there. At the end of the day, the atmosphere is all joined up.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06If you were watching earlier on in the week,

0:00:06 > 0:00:09I was indicating how developments in North America could influence

0:00:09 > 0:00:10our weather come the end of the week,

0:00:10 > 0:00:13and it certainly looks like panning out that way.

0:00:13 > 0:00:17The weather has been erupting into life across parts of the US,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20with violent storms across the Midwest and tornados,

0:00:20 > 0:00:24as well, an early start to the severe-weather season across

0:00:24 > 0:00:25this part of the world.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28What do I mean? Well, scenes like this,

0:00:28 > 0:00:32huge tornados rampaging across the plains states and into the Midwest,

0:00:32 > 0:00:36and these were the sorts of effects which tornados like this had.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38It puts our weather into perspective.

0:00:38 > 0:00:43Very destructive storms across parts of Illinois, for example.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Those storms are injecting a lot of energy into the upper

0:00:46 > 0:00:48atmosphere, as well,

0:00:48 > 0:00:51having the effect of shunting the jet stream northwards,

0:00:51 > 0:00:55and then there's a downstream dip in the jet stream which scoops up

0:00:55 > 0:01:00an area of low pressure, producing a pretty wet end to the week for us.

0:01:00 > 0:01:04So, what goes on in the States can influence what happens back here.

0:01:04 > 0:01:08Nothing as extreme as that, but some fairly rough weather on the way,

0:01:08 > 0:01:12in fact, overnight some strong winds and heavy rain and some snow

0:01:12 > 0:01:14up over the high ground into parts of England and Wales.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18Things subsiding as we head into the day. Still quite a blustery day,

0:01:18 > 0:01:22and the worst of the rain and snow will clear away from central areas.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26In actual fact, many of us will settle into a reasonable day,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28with some sunshine, just a few showers left behind, particularly

0:01:28 > 0:01:31across Western Scotland, where they will still be quite wintry.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Chilly here, but temperatures higher than they were on Wednesday -

0:01:34 > 0:01:36across southern areas, up into double figures.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39The trouble is it doesn't last. We look to the south,

0:01:39 > 0:01:43and as that jet stream scoops up that area of low pressure

0:01:43 > 0:01:46I pointed out, here comes the rain to end the week across England

0:01:46 > 0:01:50and Wales initially - disappointing Friday here, some heavy rain.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53For Northern Ireland and Scotland, we'll hold on to the dry and bright

0:01:53 > 0:01:56weather for longest, but probably it won't last that much longer

0:01:56 > 0:01:57before the rain eventually arrives.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01Pretty chilly in most places, maybe double figures across the south.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04But with that low-pressure system set to sit over the top of the

0:02:04 > 0:02:09UK for much of this weekend, we can expect some wet weather at times.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11If that wasn't enough, it'll probably be joined

0:02:11 > 0:02:14by another low pressure coming in off the Atlantic to join in

0:02:14 > 0:02:16the fun and to produce more rain.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18So if you've got plans for this weekend,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20expect some wet weather at times -

0:02:20 > 0:02:23not all the time, but with a blustery wind,

0:02:23 > 0:02:26it'll feel quite chilly in most places, as well.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28So, that low pressure in control on Saturday.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31Don't take the position of these blobs of blue too literally.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33The detail may change.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35But in some central areas, there could be some fairly

0:02:35 > 0:02:38persistent wet weather and a cold easterly wind, too.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Temperatures always a little bit higher the further south you go.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44By Sunday, maybe some respite before that next area of low

0:02:44 > 0:02:47pressure joins in the fun, as I mentioned, and perhaps pushes

0:02:47 > 0:02:50some rain into some south-western areas later on in the day.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Elsewhere, some drier spells, but with that blustery wind,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55again it will feel quite chilly.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57So, that's the set-up through this weekend,

0:02:57 > 0:03:01with that low pressure positioned in the dip of the jet stream.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04As I mentioned, the jet mainly to the south of us,

0:03:04 > 0:03:07and on the northern side we remain in the rather chilly air

0:03:07 > 0:03:09through the early part of next week.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13But there are indications from some computer models that the jet stream

0:03:13 > 0:03:18may shift northwards, and that would usher in warmer south-westerly winds

0:03:18 > 0:03:22giving something a little bit more springlike, perhaps,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25later on next week - a long way off, but perhaps

0:03:25 > 0:03:28it's something to look forward to. We'll update you again tomorrow.
