0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. On Wednesday, northern England and Northern Ireland

0:00:04 > 0:00:07enjoyed some pleasant spring sunshine,

0:00:07 > 0:00:09lifting the temperature to 13 Celsius.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12That's the temperature New York City is expected to reach on Thursday.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15We'll hold on to temperatures in double figures.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17In New York City - far from it.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20There's a plunge of cold air

0:00:20 > 0:00:23coming out of Canada over the next few days,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25and by Saturday, New York City,

0:00:25 > 0:00:28it is below freezing, there is snow around,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31the wind transporting that cold air,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34but as we spin the globe across the Atlantic,

0:00:34 > 0:00:37it's a very different story

0:00:37 > 0:00:38for the next few days.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41We'll bring the air in from a mild direction,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43the south or southwest,

0:00:43 > 0:00:46so we'll continue to have those temperatures,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48for many of us in double figures,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50with spring-like scenes like this.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52This spring-flavoured weather

0:00:52 > 0:00:54will be more widely appreciated

0:00:54 > 0:00:56and experienced across the UK

0:00:56 > 0:00:59during Thursday, cos there's a ridge of high pressure

0:00:59 > 0:01:01heading our way,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03so more places dry and sunny.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05There is a weather front here

0:01:05 > 0:01:07with some thicker cloud

0:01:07 > 0:01:10and outbreaks of mostly light rain.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12There are still showers

0:01:12 > 0:01:14in northern Scotland and the Northern Isles,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16and a brisk wind. Elsewhere, the wind

0:01:16 > 0:01:18is lighter in comparison.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21You can see the extent of the dry weather,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23and we're going to beat 13 Celsius,

0:01:23 > 0:01:26somewhere in southeast England may get to 16.

0:01:26 > 0:01:27That said, Thursday night,

0:01:27 > 0:01:30down the eastern side - quite chilly

0:01:30 > 0:01:31with a touch of frost,

0:01:31 > 0:01:34whereas the west is mild, some outbreaks of rain

0:01:34 > 0:01:37and that spreads further north during Friday.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40And it's such a different look to things,

0:01:40 > 0:01:42with all of this cloud around,

0:01:42 > 0:01:44but for most of us, it's still mild.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Then the weekend.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48It's a changeable picture.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Low pressure pushes weather fronts

0:01:50 > 0:01:52across the UK from the Atlantic.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53You'll get cloud and rain,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56but there are gaps between these systems,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58and in a gap it'll be dry and the sun comes out.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01We start the weekend with that flow of air

0:02:01 > 0:02:03from that mild direction.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06By the end of the weekend it's more from the west,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08so temperatures may come down a little bit.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11This is how Saturday is looking at the moment.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15An early area of wet weather clearing eastwards,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17and then we're in a gap,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19so it's dry and sunny,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21double-figure temperatures.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23On Sunday, another spell of wet weather,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25time for daylight hours for England and Wales,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28at the moment. It is behind that

0:02:28 > 0:02:30we introduce cooler air with sunshine and showers.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32On the last Weather For The Week Ahead,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35all the discussion is about high pressure.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38What is it going to do? How long is it going to last?

0:02:38 > 0:02:40As we go into Monday, here is that high pressure

0:02:40 > 0:02:42building in across the UK,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44but as we go deeper into next week,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46this will be squeezed to the south,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48whereas the further north you are,

0:02:48 > 0:02:51there will be some weather systems coming in

0:02:51 > 0:02:53along the jet stream,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55just to the northwest of the UK,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57so the northern half of the UK

0:02:57 > 0:02:59will see wet and windy weather,

0:02:59 > 0:03:01whereas the further south you are,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03you're closer to high pressure.

0:03:03 > 0:03:04So what does that mean?

0:03:04 > 0:03:06High pressure nearby the UK

0:03:06 > 0:03:08but exerting its influence

0:03:08 > 0:03:11on southern areas, so drier this week compared with last.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14The further north you are, you may get some wet and windy weather.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Temperatures look to be close to average

0:03:17 > 0:03:19so within the scope of this forecast,

0:03:19 > 0:03:23no sign of that New York City cold weather arriving.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25But if you like the cold weather,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27at least you now know where to go.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29That's your weather for the week ahead.
