0:00:02 > 0:00:04Well, it's time to find out what the weather is up to over

0:00:04 > 0:00:06the next few days and I can tell you straight away that

0:00:06 > 0:00:08it's actually not looking bad at all.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11Most days this coming week will be dry.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13Not completely - there will be a little bit

0:00:13 > 0:00:16of rain around and some unsettled weather across Scotland -

0:00:16 > 0:00:18but overall, looking at the UK,

0:00:18 > 0:00:21it is looking mostly cheerful, I think.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24Now, as far as the overnight period is concerned, so into Monday,

0:00:24 > 0:00:28we've got clear skies after a pretty cloudy Saturday with some rain.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30But clear skies overnight. That means a chilly night,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33colder than what we've had for quite some time.

0:00:33 > 0:00:37In fact, in rural areas, even just outside towns and cities,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39temperatures will be very close to freezing.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41So chilly Monday on the way.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44Let's have a look at the big picture then on Monday, the weather map.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46So, high pressure close to the UK.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49It's affecting England, Wales and Northern Ireland,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51Scotland to an extent too.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53And the jet stream is to the north-west of us,

0:00:53 > 0:00:56pushing the cloud and the rain, the weather fronts, basically,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59away from us, although they will be just about clipping

0:00:59 > 0:01:00the north-west of Scotland.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03But for most of us to the south, the weather is looking dry.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07So, Monday dawns on that chilly note, sunny note for most of us

0:01:07 > 0:01:09in the afternoon, and maybe the tail ends

0:01:09 > 0:01:12of these weather fronts just about affecting

0:01:12 > 0:01:13the far north-west of Scotland.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15And mild - 16 in London,

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Belfast also getting up to around the mid-teens as well.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20So, the jet stream, if you imagine it here,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22pushing those weather fronts to the north-west of us.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Turning quite windy, actually, across Scotland.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Tuesday in particular very windy day

0:01:27 > 0:01:29across the northern half of Scotland.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31You know isobars - lots of them mean very strong winds

0:01:31 > 0:01:34and we could see gales up to 60 or 70mph,

0:01:34 > 0:01:38which of course we're quite used to across this part of the world,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40at least in the Northern Isles and northern Scotland.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43But blustery with showers here.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46To the south of that it'll be dry, certainly most of England and Wales,

0:01:46 > 0:01:49just a few pockets of light rain, but that's pretty much it.

0:01:49 > 0:01:52I'm going to change the scene a little bit now and show you

0:01:52 > 0:01:54what's happening across the north Atlantic and also North America.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56See these ripples between the warm and the cold?

0:01:56 > 0:01:59These are actually storms that are developing off

0:01:59 > 0:02:01the north-east coast of the United States.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04We had a look at that yesterday, we were forecasting a pretty nasty

0:02:04 > 0:02:07snowstorm for the north-east of the US, including New York.

0:02:07 > 0:02:08That remains the case.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10If you're heading in this direction, not looking good.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12There could be some disruption with travel.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14There's another one here too, but remember,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17that jet stream is pushing these lows towards the north-west.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19And what these lows are doing,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22with the wind spinning around like so, they're scooping up

0:02:22 > 0:02:24the milder air in the southern climes

0:02:24 > 0:02:26and pushing it in our direction.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29So that's why with the low, a nasty low close by,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31but not over us - we're getting the warm air coming in.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34Well, call it mild - mid-teens, probably.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36Now, a weather front, a sneaky one,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39is going to push through during the course of Thursday, I think.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41But it should be relatively weak.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44A weak front means cloud and just a few spots of rain,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46but again the winds will be pretty strong

0:02:46 > 0:02:48across the northern part of Scotland.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51So you get that message, I think, most of the UK,

0:02:51 > 0:02:54the southern two thirds staying fairly settled this week,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57but then unsettled for Scotland most of this week.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59End of the week, different story.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01The jet stream makes a beeline for the UK.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04That means it's going to be taking the weather front straight over us.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07So I think, by the time we get to Friday and next weekend,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10that high pressure with the good weather slips to the south,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13the low pressure is just that little bit closer and we start

0:03:13 > 0:03:17to see that cooler air coming in with spells of wind and rain.

0:03:17 > 0:03:18Let's summarise all of that.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21Unsettled in the north this week with those weather fronts

0:03:21 > 0:03:23clipping north-western Scotland.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25To the south of that, dryer,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27and overall I think for most of us it should be pretty mild.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Bye-bye.
