0:00:01 > 0:00:03Hello. When weather makes news, it's rarely a good thing,

0:00:03 > 0:00:06which means we can probably relax in the UK at the moment.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08There aren't many headlines about our weather,

0:00:08 > 0:00:10except "Phew! What a scorcher!"

0:00:10 > 0:00:13Another gorgeous day on Tuesday to have some sunshine.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Blossom backed by blue sky in North Yorkshire,

0:00:15 > 0:00:17a lovely view of Ballycastle in County Antrim.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Mild air in place across the UK with high pressure.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22That staying with us into Wednesday,

0:00:22 > 0:00:26but we know it's a very different story the other side of the Atlantic

0:00:26 > 0:00:28where weather is making big news,

0:00:28 > 0:00:32with the north-east of the USA in the grip of a major snowstorm,

0:00:32 > 0:00:35dumping, well, feet of snow in some spots,

0:00:35 > 0:00:38particularly inland, away from the immediately east coast.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41These were some of the views from Allentown in Pennsylvania

0:00:41 > 0:00:45as Tuesday began, and although that system will clear,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47this part of the world stays in the grip of cold air.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49Now, we're not going to get that snowstorm,

0:00:49 > 0:00:53but the cold coming out of North America will serve to strengthen

0:00:53 > 0:00:54and flatten the jet stream

0:00:54 > 0:00:58to make it take a more direct track towards the UK later this week

0:00:58 > 0:01:00with more active weather systems on it.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02So our weather, by the end of the week and into the weekend,

0:01:02 > 0:01:05as a result will turn more active.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Temperatures come down - not on the scale of the north-east USA -

0:01:07 > 0:01:11it'll be windier, it'll be wetter. Nothing too terrible, but again,

0:01:11 > 0:01:13quite a change from what we have at the moment.

0:01:13 > 0:01:14Because what we have at the moment

0:01:14 > 0:01:18is high pressure keeping many places dry and settled.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21Just bulging a little bit further north again as Wednesday begins.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23There's a weather front in the west,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25so damp and drizzly in parts of Northern Ireland.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Some rain moving in to Western Scotland.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29A lot of cloud in the west of England and west Wales.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Elsewhere in England and Wales, cloud breaking,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34some sunny spells coming through,

0:01:34 > 0:01:37and of course, it's in the sunshine you get the higher temperatures,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39maybe 16 or 17 Celsius.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42Now, on Thursday, for Scotland and Northern Ireland initially,

0:01:42 > 0:01:44a band of rain moving through,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46wind picking up, showers following,

0:01:46 > 0:01:49some of that reaching into parts of northern England and Wales.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51But it's really Friday into the weekend.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53High pressure flattened away southwards

0:01:53 > 0:01:57as the stronger jet stream across the Atlantic

0:01:57 > 0:02:00pushes these weather systems right at us.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03So that means if you start Friday dry,

0:02:03 > 0:02:04you probably won't end that way,

0:02:04 > 0:02:08as we take rain from north-west to south-east across the UK,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10and a stronger wind. A bit of snow showing up

0:02:10 > 0:02:11in the Scottish hills.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15Most of us are going to get rain, but some snow for the higher ground

0:02:15 > 0:02:17across northern parts of the UK.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Bit of a break between weather systems on Saturday.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Could be damp, still, across southern areas.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Elsewhere, some sunny spells and showers.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Another push of wet weather at the start of Sunday

0:02:26 > 0:02:29and then further showers following on behind,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31and the risk of more persistent rain into western hills.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34And then that takes us into the start of next week.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38It's going to feel quite cool for the first few days of next week,

0:02:38 > 0:02:39with sunshine and showers.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42Cool because of where the area's coming from -

0:02:42 > 0:02:44the isobars followed back towards the north-west,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46that'll be the direction the air's coming from.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50A cool direction, so another push as temperatures come down a few degrees

0:02:50 > 0:02:53into the start of the next week, again with sunshine and showers.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55But we are eyeing up, later next week,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58another pattern change to our weather,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00as we're eyeing up the return of high pressure

0:03:00 > 0:03:03lurking in the wings to the west of us, in the Atlantic,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06and we think that's going to become more of a player later in the week.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09If that happens and high pressure returns,

0:03:09 > 0:03:13things start to settle down again, and things turn drier for us.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Could be quite pleasant by day, but I have to flag up the possibility

0:03:16 > 0:03:18of overnight frost.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21Even that's not news, as gardeners know, at this time of year.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24You can't drop your guard in March.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Although the weather is quite pleasant at the moment,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28don't get ahead of the game just yet in the garden.
