0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello there.

0:00:03 > 0:00:05It's time for an extended look at the weather for the next week

0:00:05 > 0:00:08and a little bit beyond that as well.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11We start off looking out into the Atlantic at the jet stream,

0:00:11 > 0:00:14that fast-flowing ribbon of air in the upper atmosphere which

0:00:14 > 0:00:16tends to drive our weather systems.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18So when it is quite flat like this it'll be often bringing

0:00:18 > 0:00:20a series of weather systems to our shores.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23So it looks like it'll be fairly changeable,

0:00:23 > 0:00:24at least in the short term.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27We certainly start off quite wet and quite windy across

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Northern Ireland, Wales, in the south-west of England.

0:00:29 > 0:00:30A bit brighter east of the Pennines.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Some bright spells developing in the north-east of Scotland.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35East of the Pennines it will tend to cloud over.

0:00:35 > 0:00:36Dribs and drabs of rain by the afternoon.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39We'll hang onto some sunny spells in the north-east of Scotland.

0:00:39 > 0:00:40In spite of that sunshine,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43only seven degrees in Aberdeenshire but it is a mild 15 in the

0:00:43 > 0:00:46London area and still some outbreaks of rain out towards the west.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48It stays pretty breezy,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50pretty cloudy through Saturday night on into Sunday.

0:00:50 > 0:00:54Further outbreaks of rain across the north and west of the UK.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57But it's going to be relatively mild by Sunday morning.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59We've got temperatures in double figures for many and even in

0:00:59 > 0:01:03northern Scotland it's around about four or five degrees.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05That's because we're in a warm sector which will drift its

0:01:05 > 0:01:08way a little bit further eastwards during the day on Sunday.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10These weather fronts will be slipping their way

0:01:10 > 0:01:11a little bit further south as well.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Notice a lot of isobars in the charts.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15It's another windy day on Sunday

0:01:15 > 0:01:18with cloud for many places and outbreaks of rain,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20mainly in the north and west.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23I think that rain will move away from southern Scotland into

0:01:23 > 0:01:25the afternoon so a reasonable afternoon across the bulk of

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Scotland but in northern England, parts of Wales, maybe into

0:01:28 > 0:01:30the south-west, fairly wet through the afternoon.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33The south-east stays essentially dry, relatively mild.

0:01:33 > 0:01:3614 or 15 degrees. It's round about ten degrees in the Glasgow area.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Now, as we go through Sunday night on into Monday,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41still a lot of isobars on the charts and we've still got

0:01:41 > 0:01:44this weather front draped across more southern parts of the UK.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47So it'll be another breezy day on Monday. Quite cloudy.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Some breaks in the east of Scotland and the north-east of England

0:01:50 > 0:01:52of England but, generally speaking, a lot of cloud.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54Rain across the southernmost counties,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57scattered showers into the north and west and temperatures beginning

0:01:57 > 0:02:00to dip back down in the north and west, back into single figures.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02And that is a trend as we go through into Tuesday.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Low pressure to the north and west of the UK.

0:02:04 > 0:02:08Winds coming around, certainly a cold wind and the wind will

0:02:08 > 0:02:10still be quite strong during the day on Tuesday.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13A chilly start but a bright and breezy start for many.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16Scattered showers are likely to develop and temperatures for

0:02:16 > 0:02:19many places by this stage will be in single figures.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22Only six or seven degrees for Glasgow and for Newcastle.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24So, Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27we've still got low pressure in charge of our weather.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29This rather slow-moving weather front drifting its way across

0:02:29 > 0:02:32England and Wales, moving from west to east.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34You might even see a bit of wintry weather

0:02:34 > 0:02:35over the tops of the Pennines.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39That rain drifts its way eastwards and notice again many places are in

0:02:39 > 0:02:42single figures so certainly a cooler feel to things early next week.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46And then looking beyond that it gets a bit difficult, really.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48Different computer models are doing different things but the most

0:02:48 > 0:02:51likely scenario at the moment is that we have high pressure

0:02:51 > 0:02:54dominating across much of the UK. Low pressure to the south.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57The resulting winds will be coming in from the east so quite

0:02:57 > 0:03:01a chilly breeze for some and rain is likely in between those.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03However, that high might slip a little further south,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05introducing more of a southerly breeze and, with low pressure

0:03:05 > 0:03:08to the north-west, that's where we'll see most of the rain.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12However, it looks as if high pressure will be the dominant force

0:03:12 > 0:03:15across the bulk of the UK, even on into next weekend,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18which will keep things dry for the most part and for most places

0:03:18 > 0:03:20the winds will be quite light. Temperature wise,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23it should be quite pleasant by day but still quite chilly by night.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Gardeners take note because there could well be

0:03:26 > 0:03:28some fairly widespread frost. Bye for now.
