0:00:03 > 0:00:04Hello there.

0:00:04 > 0:00:07There will be big improvements in the weather later this week,

0:00:07 > 0:00:08in time for the weekend,

0:00:08 > 0:00:10but it has not been a very promising start to the new week.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12This is what we are moving into right now.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15We are seeing some sunshine - all looks quite pleasant -

0:00:15 > 0:00:18but then the showers come rattling in on a cold wind

0:00:18 > 0:00:21coming in from the west and north-west.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23We've got colder air coming down across the UK.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26This cold air is what we call polar maritime air.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28It brings with it a lot of showers,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30those showers increasingly wintry.

0:00:30 > 0:00:31So we are seeing some snow

0:00:31 > 0:00:33in Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35not just on the higher-level routes,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37and some icy conditions too.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Some of the snow at lower levels may melt,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40but we'll keep snow going over the hills.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Almost anywhere from mid to late morning onwards

0:00:42 > 0:00:44could catch a shower.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Those showers should be wintry in the heavier ones,

0:00:46 > 0:00:47particularly in the west.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49There may well be some hail and thunder.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52These are the maximum temperatures. Single figures.

0:00:52 > 0:00:53It will feel colder in the wind

0:00:53 > 0:00:56and temperatures will drop sharply

0:00:56 > 0:00:57in those heavy showers.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00We may get an organised spell of not just showers

0:01:00 > 0:01:02but more rain coming into Wales and the south-west,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04some slow over the hills.

0:01:04 > 0:01:05But that wetter weather moves northwards

0:01:05 > 0:01:08into the very cold air that's in Scotland,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10so there's the threat of some significant snow.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Really cold. It could be down to -8

0:01:12 > 0:01:15in the Glens of Scotland on Wednesday morning,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17and the threat of snow across the southern parts

0:01:17 > 0:01:20of the country, particularly over the hills.

0:01:20 > 0:01:23Maybe some snow across the north-east of England,

0:01:23 > 0:01:24but probably more turning to rain.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26A ragged band of rain moving eastwards

0:01:26 > 0:01:28across into eastern England,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30with sunshine and showers following on behind.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31Another cold day.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Temperatures struggling to get in to double figures -

0:01:33 > 0:01:375-7 degrees is going to be much nearer the mark.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40It is a bit of a messy picture as we head into Wednesday

0:01:40 > 0:01:42and beyond into Thursday.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44We have got these weather fronts on the scene,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46but they're weakening all the while,

0:01:46 > 0:01:47so Thursday will be drier.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Closer to an area of low pressure,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51we may threaten some rain to come in

0:01:51 > 0:01:53across central southern England.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Not much of that wet weather left

0:01:55 > 0:01:57across southern Scotland and northern England.

0:01:57 > 0:01:58Many places will be dry,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00but there will be a wind off the North Sea,

0:02:00 > 0:02:02and it will feel cold once again.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04But as we head into the end of the week,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06I promised something better.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09We've got pressure building up from the south-west.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11That low is filling, so it is turning drier.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12Weak weather front approaching

0:02:12 > 0:02:14the far north-west of Scotland.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16That's not going to do much damage at all.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18The wind will gradually lessen through the day.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Most places will be dry.

0:02:20 > 0:02:21There will be some sunshine around.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Temperatures should be a little bit higher,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25just creeping up to 10 or 11 degrees.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27That is because the high pressure is building in.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29It means the winds are turning lighter,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32and that our high pressure is firmly in charge

0:02:32 > 0:02:33for the start of the weekend,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35which is highly unusual -

0:02:35 > 0:02:37for the weather to settle down in time for the weekend.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39Indeed, there may just be a few spots of rain

0:02:39 > 0:02:41for the Northwest of Scotland,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44otherwise a dry day, some sunshine,

0:02:44 > 0:02:45and temperatures by day

0:02:45 > 0:02:46a little bit higher as well.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48So with that high pressure moving in over the weekend,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50we are seeing the back of those wintry showers,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52the cold winds,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54instead we are going to find more in the way of blues skies.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57It will feel pleasantly warm in the sunshine by day,

0:02:57 > 0:02:58clear skies at night.

0:02:58 > 0:02:59Even at this time of the year,

0:02:59 > 0:03:02you can still get some cold mornings.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Monday sees the high pressure right over the UK.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07The position of the high will be crucial,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10because we may start to draw in a colder easterly wind.

0:03:10 > 0:03:11Then, beyond Monday,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14it's all about what happens to the high - is it going to last?

0:03:14 > 0:03:16Is it going to recede?

0:03:16 > 0:03:19It looks like the high will gradually, very slowly,

0:03:19 > 0:03:20retreat into Europe,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24allowing more of an Atlantic feed to come into the Northwest,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26threatening to bring more cloud and perhaps some rain,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28but we'll lose those easterly winds,

0:03:28 > 0:03:29so in the centre of the high,

0:03:29 > 0:03:31it could be really warm.

0:03:42 > 0:03:43Good and evil exists in this world.
