0:00:02 > 0:00:04It's time to find out if the weather is going to be behaving itself

0:00:04 > 0:00:05over the next few days,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08because it certainly didn't behave itself today.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10Not a great day on the weather front.

0:00:10 > 0:00:11Lots of cloud and outbreaks of rain.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13I was caught in a downpour as well.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16Let's have a look at the satellite picture

0:00:16 > 0:00:17and it really tells the story.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Look at these clouds spiralling around right across the UK.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23This is what brought the downpours - an area of low pressure,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26with the rain-bearing clouds and some thunderstorms too.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29I'll overlay the jet stream, and you can see that it directly

0:00:29 > 0:00:32follows the shape of the motion of these clouds.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34The cold air is always to the north of the jet stream,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36warmer air to the south.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39Clearly, that jet stream is way towards the south of us,

0:00:39 > 0:00:43so we've got this blob of blue, blob of cold air that's over us,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45but watch what happens over the next few days.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49We say goodbye - off it goes -

0:00:49 > 0:00:52to the blob of blue and we get a blob of yellow.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54So, that's slightly warmer air heading our way

0:00:54 > 0:00:56so the outlook is looking pretty optimistic.

0:00:56 > 0:01:00I can't guarantee it will be sunny both days this weekend, but at least

0:01:00 > 0:01:03the winds are going to be light, and it's going to feel

0:01:03 > 0:01:04just that little bit warmer.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07In the short term, Thursday morning, there is some rain around across

0:01:07 > 0:01:10one or two parts of the country, central and maybe southern areas.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13Very nippy in Scotland first thing on Thursday in the Glens -

0:01:13 > 0:01:15could be as low as minus eight Celsius.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18The morning on Thursday could start off cloudy with some rain,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21but in the afternoon it certainly looks a lot better

0:01:21 > 0:01:23for most of the UK.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Not for everybody because across the south-west and some of

0:01:26 > 0:01:29the central southern areas there will be a little more cloud.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33This is basically the remnants of the bad weather that we had

0:01:33 > 0:01:35during the course of Wednesday.

0:01:35 > 0:01:39It is moving away to the south but not quite clearing all of the UK,

0:01:39 > 0:01:40the whole country.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43To the north of that, fine weather, from the Midlands, northern England,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Northern Ireland, into Scotland, beautiful weather here.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47A bit nippy - temperatures in some places

0:01:47 > 0:01:49no higher than around seven or eight Celsius.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51And this is Thursday evening.

0:01:51 > 0:01:52It's such a stubborn weather front.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54It is still there, still straddling,

0:01:54 > 0:01:59still hugging that coast from Kent all the way down to Plymouth.

0:01:59 > 0:02:03Then on Friday what is happening is this area of high pressure

0:02:03 > 0:02:05is kind of expanding,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08starting to dominate the weather and push that weather front away.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10But it isn't going to go away completely because still on Friday

0:02:10 > 0:02:12we have probably a little bit more cloud.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15This is going to be light stuff - cloud and a little bit of rain.

0:02:15 > 0:02:16That's pretty much it.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20The rest of the country is looking fine, but the far north,

0:02:20 > 0:02:21in the Northern Isles, a few spots of rain.

0:02:21 > 0:02:25And then finally when we get into Saturday and Sunday

0:02:25 > 0:02:30that high pressure well and truly anchors itself across the UK.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33In the centre of the high, the winds will be light, and around it

0:02:33 > 0:02:35perhaps a bit more of a breeze.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38The cloud will be very hard to forecast over the weekend and

0:02:38 > 0:02:40into next week, but this sort of summarises the fact that it

0:02:40 > 0:02:45will be dry and those temperatures will start climbing.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46The mornings may be chilly.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49If you have a clear day and a clear night in high pressures with

0:02:49 > 0:02:52light winds you will get a touch of frost.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54How about beyond the weekend?

0:02:54 > 0:02:57Once the high anchors itself across the UK, it sticks around.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00The winds blow around the high like so.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03It doesn't take too much of a wind to make it feel pretty chilly

0:03:03 > 0:03:05around coastal areas, so in the middle of the high

0:03:05 > 0:03:07it'll be nice, warm and sunny.

0:03:07 > 0:03:08Around coastal areas it will be chilly,

0:03:08 > 0:03:09so, if you're heading

0:03:09 > 0:03:11off to the coast for the weekend,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14be prepared for a chilly breeze.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17That sea around the country is pretty cold this time of the year -

0:03:17 > 0:03:18the coldest time actually.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20Whereas inland into next week,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22with the light winds and the clear blue skies,

0:03:22 > 0:03:26temperatures will be getting back to a respectable high teens,

0:03:26 > 0:03:27so it'll feel a little bit

0:03:27 > 0:03:29more like spring. Bye-bye.
