0:00:04 > 0:00:06Hello there. Of course, British summertime began this weekend.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08That doesn't normally mean that we leap into summerlike

0:00:08 > 0:00:12temperatures but it was quite a remarkable weekend for some of us.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15No more so than across the Highlands of Scotland,

0:00:15 > 0:00:18where all that sunshine sent temperatures soaring.

0:00:18 > 0:00:22In a place called Inverbroom we reached around 20 degrees,

0:00:22 > 0:00:25melting some of that snowfall you can see in the distance.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27The warmest day of the year so far.

0:00:27 > 0:00:31High pressure is responsible, keeping things high and dry,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33keeping the rain bearing weather fronts well at bay,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35and the high-pressure in turn

0:00:35 > 0:00:38is courtesy of a huge block in the Jet Stream.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41Think of this block a s a boulder in the stream, if you like,

0:00:41 > 0:00:44keeping the wet weather well at bay.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46But if we fast forward to the end of the week,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49that boulder gets swept away as the Jet Stream starts

0:00:49 > 0:00:52to plough its way right the way across the country.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54That'll bring a marked change in the weather.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57It'll introduce rain bearing weather systems in off the Atlantic

0:00:57 > 0:00:59so we're going to see some wet weather, I think,

0:00:59 > 0:01:01by the end of the week.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03So let's sum up the next few days.

0:01:03 > 0:01:04We start off on that dry note

0:01:04 > 0:01:07but then rain starts to push in from the west.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Having said all that, in any brighter spells,

0:01:10 > 0:01:13it will still feel pleasantly warm at times.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15Not exactly warm out there first thing in the morning.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17Distinctly chilly, in actual fact.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20Single figures and in some places yet again we will wake up to a frost

0:01:20 > 0:01:23across these more rural parts of north-west Britain in particular.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Some areas of low cloud and fog around, too.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29That'll be a change in the weather across some central and eastern

0:01:29 > 0:01:31parts of England, particularly east of the Pennines,

0:01:31 > 0:01:34creeping up towards the coast of south-east Scotland as well.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36Most of us, though, actually will have another fine day

0:01:36 > 0:01:38and it'll feel quite pleasant again

0:01:38 > 0:01:40up into the mid, possibly high teens in one or two places.

0:01:40 > 0:01:45Where it stays grey, it will be a lot chillier, just 8 or 9 degrees.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47But in the sunshine, across the south for example,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50getting as high as 16 or 17 degrees.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52And the breeze won't be as strong as it has been

0:01:52 > 0:01:56across these more southern areas through this weekend.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58So a fine start to the week for most of us.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Not going to last for much longer, though.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03That low pressure starts to wind itself up

0:02:03 > 0:02:05and send weather fronts in our direction,

0:02:05 > 0:02:09the first of which will introduce thicker cloud and some showery rain,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11initially to the more southern and western areas.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Quite hit and miss, these showers. Some places avoiding them

0:02:13 > 0:02:15but there'll be some heavy downpours around, I think.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18More northern and eastern parts holding on to the dry weather.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Quite chilly near some North Sea coasts.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23But in the brightness inland, again, temperatures doing pretty well.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26That weather system will be followed by another one

0:02:26 > 0:02:27which has got a bit more oomph in it

0:02:27 > 0:02:29and that does mean some heavier rain,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32again, initially across the more western parts of the country.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Quite a gusty wind, too.

0:02:34 > 0:02:35It'll take some time, though,

0:02:35 > 0:02:38for the rain to move its way further eastwards.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Still some dry and fine weather around.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43By Thursday, that frontal system looks as if it might get

0:02:43 > 0:02:46hooked up across these more southern and eastern areas.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49Don't take the position of that too literally but it does introduce

0:02:49 > 0:02:52the chance of some wet weather across the more southeastern

0:02:52 > 0:02:55parts of the UK, which will be a change in the weather here.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Further north and west, a mixture of sunshine and showers,

0:02:58 > 0:03:02and, again, with southerly winds temperatures still doing pretty well

0:03:02 > 0:03:03if you see some brighter spells.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06Up into the mid to high teens once more.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08By Friday it's a bit of a mess, frankly.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10Don't take the position of these blobs of blue too literally

0:03:10 > 0:03:13but you get the gist, don't you? Much more unsettled.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16There'll be some wet weather around and some of these downpours

0:03:16 > 0:03:17could be quite prolonged as well.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20So some big changes taking place over the next few days.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24Into early April, next week we start off on that showery, cool theme

0:03:24 > 0:03:26but there are indications that things might start to turn

0:03:26 > 0:03:29drier again later on in the week from the south.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30I'll update you again tomorrow.
