0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello, there. There's the promise of some settled weather

0:00:04 > 0:00:06as we head into next week - just recently, though,

0:00:06 > 0:00:09we've seen the wind direction changing into more of a southerly,

0:00:09 > 0:00:10which is drawing up some warmer air.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13In order to achieve the highest temperatures, though,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15we need some breaks in the cloud and more sunshine.

0:00:15 > 0:00:20This is where the warmer and drier air was earlier on,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22but that's moving its way northwards

0:00:22 > 0:00:23towards England and Wales,

0:00:23 > 0:00:27pushing away some of this cloud, which is bringing in some rain -

0:00:27 > 0:00:30and that cloud is still bringing some rain at the moment.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32The rain clears away from the Midlands

0:00:32 > 0:00:36and gets more pushed up towards Irish Sea coastal areas,

0:00:36 > 0:00:37moving away from Wales

0:00:37 > 0:00:40into north-west England and southern Scotland,

0:00:40 > 0:00:44allowing more sunshine to develop across much of England and Wales.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Now, it may well be a warmer day across the north-east of Scotland

0:00:46 > 0:00:49thanks to those southerly winds compared with the last few days,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51when we've had the onshore breeze -

0:00:51 > 0:00:53but more rain to come for Dumfries & Galloway,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55across Cumbria, maybe the Northern Pennines,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57eastern parts of Northern Ireland,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59even into the afternoon, the threat of rain,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02western fringes of Wales and the far south-west of England,

0:01:02 > 0:01:03but, for much of England and Wales,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06we get much brighter skies, some sunshine,

0:01:06 > 0:01:10and we could get up to 22 degrees Celsius, 72 Fahrenheit.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Now, as we head into Friday,

0:01:12 > 0:01:13the main focus of the rain

0:01:13 > 0:01:16will shift away from Northern Ireland up into Scotland.

0:01:16 > 0:01:17Behind that, to the south,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19we may have a little rain coming eastwards

0:01:19 > 0:01:21across England and Wales, but not much.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24We've got more in the way of sunshine, actually,

0:01:24 > 0:01:27following on behind, and, although it's slightly fresher air,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29a wee change in wind direction, to a certain extent,

0:01:29 > 0:01:32it'll still feel pleasant in the sunshine.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34This weekend is going to be a weekend of two halves.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37Showers on Saturday to greet the new month,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39a chilly night on Saturday night,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42and then Sunday looks like being the driest day of the two.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44The wind's not particularly strong on Saturday,

0:01:44 > 0:01:47so, the showers are going to hang around for a while.

0:01:47 > 0:01:48Little bit hit and miss, perhaps,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51but there could be some heavy ones in there, as well -

0:01:51 > 0:01:53but get some sunshine, and it's pleasantly warm.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Now, those showers get pushed away

0:01:55 > 0:01:58by this short-lived area of high pressure

0:01:58 > 0:02:00that's building up from the south,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03and that will settle things down on Sunday,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05so, a much drier day on Sunday.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Again, for most of us, the winds will be light.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09It'll be a bright day, there will be some sunshine,

0:02:09 > 0:02:13it will be pleasantly warm. 16, maybe 17 degrees.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15The far north-west, late on in the day,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17will see more cloud, a strengthening wind

0:02:17 > 0:02:19and the chance of some rain.

0:02:19 > 0:02:20That's on that weather system, there,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23but it's coming in to that area of high pressure

0:02:23 > 0:02:24that's clinging on across England and Wales,

0:02:24 > 0:02:27so, movement of that band of rain is going to be painfully slow,

0:02:27 > 0:02:31and it's going to be across Western Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:02:31 > 0:02:33that we see most of the rain on Monday.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37Ahead of it, difficult to know how much sunshine there's going to be,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39but we've still got some quite warm air,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41so, 16 or 17 degrees, again, quite likely.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Pretty good for this time of year.

0:02:43 > 0:02:44Into the outlook,

0:02:44 > 0:02:47and that band of rain pushes south-eastwards across the UK.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49Again, not much rain in the south-east.

0:02:49 > 0:02:50It continues to be largely dry here -

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and then, high pressure, you can see,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54building in from the Atlantic.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56This is the settled weather that I promised you -

0:02:56 > 0:02:58and that high pressure builds in across the UK,

0:02:58 > 0:03:02centred more across the southern half of the UK.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04So, dry weather, some sunshine -

0:03:04 > 0:03:05some cloud, as well.

0:03:05 > 0:03:06Shouldn't be too cold at night,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09and it should be pleasantly warm at this time of the year

0:03:09 > 0:03:10in the sunshine.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Position of the high, though, as usual, is crucial,

0:03:13 > 0:03:14because, to the north of the high,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16around the top of it,

0:03:16 > 0:03:17we've got more of this Atlantic wind

0:03:17 > 0:03:19affecting Scotland, in particular,

0:03:19 > 0:03:20blowing in cloudy skies.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22Get the other side of the mountains more sunshine,

0:03:22 > 0:03:23and it will be warmer.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25That's what we call the Foehn effect -

0:03:25 > 0:03:28and you can find out more details about that online.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Goodbye.
