0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello there. We are off and running into April with some fairly
0:00:05 > 0:00:07typical April weather, but I thought we'd start with
0:00:07 > 0:00:10a quick look back at what happened in March.
0:00:10 > 0:00:11We've got some Met Office statistics
0:00:11 > 0:00:12which show that, in terms of
0:00:12 > 0:00:16rainfall, it was drier than average in the south-eastern corner of the
0:00:16 > 0:00:20UK and drier than average, too, in the western side of Scotland.
0:00:20 > 0:00:24That comes off the back of several dry months through much of winter.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26In terms of sunshine through March,
0:00:26 > 0:00:29it was still a little bit less than average in the south-west of the
0:00:29 > 0:00:32UK, but for the vast majority we saw more sunshine than you might expect.
0:00:32 > 0:00:36The western side of Scotland, where it was quite dry, was also sunny.
0:00:36 > 0:00:38Now, to start April we saw some fairly typical April weather,
0:00:38 > 0:00:41as I said. We saw some sunshine but also some showers.
0:00:41 > 0:00:45This picture was taken in East Lothian by a Weather Watcher.
0:00:45 > 0:00:47So, sunshine and showers to start the weekend.
0:00:47 > 0:00:49The second part of the weekend looks much quieter.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51We've got a big ridge of high pressure building in.
0:00:51 > 0:00:53It'll be a chilly start to the day
0:00:53 > 0:00:55but a bright start, with some sunshine and some light winds.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58Into the afternoon, you'll notice cloud amounts increasing,
0:00:58 > 0:01:00but just about everywhere stays dry.
0:01:00 > 0:01:02Looks like a decent afternoon across most of Scotland,
0:01:02 > 0:01:05patchy cloud and some sunshine, 12 degrees in Glasgow,
0:01:05 > 0:01:0712 or 13 in Northern Ireland.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10We might just see the odd shower for some eastern parts of England,
0:01:10 > 0:01:12but generally there's a lot of dry and bright weather,
0:01:12 > 0:01:15good spells of sunshine for Wales, the south-west of England,
0:01:15 > 0:01:18light winds, too, 12 or 13 degrees, not so bad.
0:01:18 > 0:01:22The top temperatures will be in the south-east, about 16 or 17 degrees,
0:01:22 > 0:01:25so it looks pretty good for the Boat Racers on the river.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28Not particularly windy, so the water should be not particularly
0:01:28 > 0:01:29choppy, and the sky should be quite bright,
0:01:29 > 0:01:32and we've got some pretty reasonable temperatures.
0:01:32 > 0:01:35Monday may start a bit grey for some with a few patches of mist and fog.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37That won't last long, then for most of England and Wales it looks like
0:01:37 > 0:01:40a lovely day with some sunshine, the winds coming in from the south.
0:01:40 > 0:01:41It'll feel pleasantly warm.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43Further west, though, more cloud,
0:01:43 > 0:01:45a bit more of a breeze and some outbreaks of rain pushing
0:01:45 > 0:01:48into Northern Ireland, Western Scotland and later on into
0:01:48 > 0:01:52the western fringes of Wales and the far south-west of England.
0:01:52 > 0:01:56Then that weather front Monday night into Tuesday does cross the rest of
0:01:56 > 0:01:58England and Wales but weakens off in the process,
0:01:58 > 0:02:01so not much rain in the south-east, but there will be some.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04It's fairly light and patchy to take us on into Tuesday morning.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07Following along behind that area of cloud and patchy rain comes
0:02:07 > 0:02:08something a bit brighter,
0:02:08 > 0:02:10although in the north-west more of a breeze, and that
0:02:10 > 0:02:14may well bring with it a bit more cloud and a scattering of showers.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16We've got ten degrees in Glasgow through Tuesday,
0:02:16 > 0:02:18round about 15 or 16 in the south-eastern corner,
0:02:18 > 0:02:21so temperatures just creeping down by a notch or two.
0:02:21 > 0:02:23But the weather looks set fair for the most part, with this area
0:02:23 > 0:02:26of high pressure taking us on into the middle part of the week.
0:02:26 > 0:02:27Weather fronts going around the top of that,
0:02:27 > 0:02:29so most places will be fine and dry,
0:02:29 > 0:02:31but there's always the risk of a little bit of rain
0:02:31 > 0:02:33on that breeze into the north-west of the UK,
0:02:33 > 0:02:35but for most other places it's another decent day.
0:02:35 > 0:02:37Temperatures continue to slip back a bit,
0:02:37 > 0:02:41top temperatures midweek around about 14 or 15 degrees.
0:02:41 > 0:02:43Now, on into Thursday, it's a similar sort of day, really,
0:02:43 > 0:02:46a bit breezy in the north and west with thicker cloud and some
0:02:46 > 0:02:48outbreaks of rain, 11 degrees in Glasgow,
0:02:48 > 0:02:50where it should be dry, 12 in Belfast and around
0:02:50 > 0:02:53about 14 or 15 in the south-eastern corner, where it should stay dry
0:02:53 > 0:02:55and quite bright.
0:02:55 > 0:02:58High pressure is still with us towards the end of the week,
0:02:58 > 0:03:00keeping it settled for the most part.
0:03:00 > 0:03:02Weather fronts go around the top of that high,
0:03:02 > 0:03:04so again on the western side of Scotland we might see
0:03:04 > 0:03:07thicker cloud and a little bit of rain.
0:03:07 > 0:03:10On into next weekend and probably beyond that, we've still got
0:03:10 > 0:03:13high pressure as the dominant force, driving our weather,
0:03:13 > 0:03:15keeping it fine and settled for the most part.
0:03:15 > 0:03:18It might just drift a little bit out towards the near Continent,
0:03:18 > 0:03:20but the winds are coming in from the south across western
0:03:20 > 0:03:22areas, so that's going to keep those temperatures up,
0:03:22 > 0:03:24but always the risk of weather fronts just drifting
0:03:24 > 0:03:26into the far north and west,
0:03:26 > 0:03:29maybe freshening up the breeze and bringing a little bit of rain.
