0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. Before we look ahead, we'll look back at what happened in March
0:00:05 > 0:00:07because the Met Office have done all the number crunching
0:00:07 > 0:00:11on the statistics and it turns out that for the UK as a whole,
0:00:11 > 0:00:14it was the fifth mildest March on record.
0:00:14 > 0:00:17And for the south-east of England it was the joint mildest on record.
0:00:17 > 0:00:19Pretty good temperature for some of us,
0:00:19 > 0:00:22in terms of rainfall it was around the average.
0:00:22 > 0:00:24Those records go back to 1910.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26It might start chilly for southern counties,
0:00:26 > 0:00:27but a bright start,
0:00:27 > 0:00:29make the most of the morning sunshine
0:00:29 > 0:00:31because cloud will drift south during the day.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33Hanging on to sunny spells
0:00:33 > 0:00:34in the South-west and North-east.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37Most places, in spite of cloud, will be dry.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39Just the north-west quadrant
0:00:39 > 0:00:41might see a few spots of rain.
0:00:41 > 0:00:4311 degrees in Glasgow, similar in Belfast,
0:00:43 > 0:00:4513 or 14 for Cardiff and London.
0:00:45 > 0:00:47Through the evening, cloud in eastern England
0:00:47 > 0:00:49might thicken enough for some rain,
0:00:49 > 0:00:51and still a bit of rain in the North-west,
0:00:51 > 0:00:53but most places will be fine and dry
0:00:53 > 0:00:54with a fair bit of cloud
0:00:54 > 0:00:57keeping temperatures up a little bit,
0:00:57 > 0:00:58around 7 or 8 degrees,
0:00:58 > 0:01:01fairly typical to start the day on Thursday.
0:01:01 > 0:01:04So it may be a bit cloudy first thing on Thursday.
0:01:04 > 0:01:06May keep a bit of cloud into the afternoon,
0:01:06 > 0:01:08not much rain to speak of.
0:01:08 > 0:01:10There will be some for western coast and hills,
0:01:10 > 0:01:12but many places will have
0:01:12 > 0:01:13another fine and dry day
0:01:13 > 0:01:15with variable amounts of cloud,
0:01:15 > 0:01:17a little bit of sunshine at times.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20Temperatures again around 11 or 12 degrees
0:01:20 > 0:01:21for Glasgow and Belfast.
0:01:21 > 0:01:22Could go as high as 15
0:01:22 > 0:01:24in the south-eastern corner.
0:01:24 > 0:01:26High pressure is in charge of our weather
0:01:26 > 0:01:28over the next few days and will stick around
0:01:28 > 0:01:30towards the end of the week as well,
0:01:30 > 0:01:32keeping things fine and settled.
0:01:32 > 0:01:34Just a question mark about cloud amounts.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36But probably breaks in the cloud,
0:01:36 > 0:01:38so maybe a chilly start to the day on Friday
0:01:38 > 0:01:40where you have those breaks.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42But another decent day for most places,
0:01:42 > 0:01:43dry virtually everywhere.
0:01:43 > 0:01:45There'll be variable cloud and spells of sunshine.
0:01:45 > 0:01:47Temperatures again in that range
0:01:47 > 0:01:50of 10 to 14 or 15 degrees.
0:01:50 > 0:01:52As we head towards the start of the weekend,
0:01:52 > 0:01:54high pressure is still with us,
0:01:54 > 0:01:55but it's beginning to drift
0:01:55 > 0:01:56towards the near continent.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58But for the start of the weekend,
0:01:58 > 0:02:00it will still be the dominant force
0:02:00 > 0:02:01driving our weather,
0:02:01 > 0:02:02so again it might be a chilly start,
0:02:02 > 0:02:05but it'll be a decent day for most places,
0:02:05 > 0:02:06light winds, patchy cloud,
0:02:06 > 0:02:08sunny spells and it's dry once again
0:02:08 > 0:02:10pretty much everywhere.
0:02:10 > 0:02:1211 degrees in Glasgow, 13 or so in Cardiff,
0:02:12 > 0:02:14up to around 15 in the London area.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17Signs of a change as we head towards Sunday.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20This weather front will creep into the North-west,
0:02:20 > 0:02:21thickening up the cloud,
0:02:21 > 0:02:22maybe bringing rain with it.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25But in the South and East, we'll see sunshine,
0:02:25 > 0:02:28and with a southerly breeze, it'll turn quite warm,
0:02:28 > 0:02:30up to the high teens, maybe low 20s on Sunday
0:02:30 > 0:02:32in the South and East.
0:02:32 > 0:02:33But there is a sign of change.
0:02:33 > 0:02:36It's this weather front which will eventually
0:02:36 > 0:02:38make its way south across the UK.
0:02:38 > 0:02:39As it does so, there's cooler air
0:02:39 > 0:02:41behind that cold front,
0:02:41 > 0:02:42so it will spread the colder air
0:02:42 > 0:02:44down across the UK
0:02:44 > 0:02:46in the early part of the new week.
0:02:46 > 0:02:48It looks like the colder air will spill down
0:02:48 > 0:02:50across pretty much all parts as we go through the week.
0:02:50 > 0:02:53But for the weekend, still high pressure in charge.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55It's drifting towards the near continent
0:02:55 > 0:02:58and will pull in some warm air at least for a time.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01But as it pulls away and low pressure starts to take over
0:03:01 > 0:03:05into the early part of next week, things will turn more unsettled.
0:03:05 > 0:03:07We'll drag down this north-westerly wind,
0:03:07 > 0:03:09it's from a cold direction,
0:03:09 > 0:03:12so temperatures will drop away across the board.
0:03:12 > 0:03:16That'll be a shock to the system as it turns quite a good deal colder
0:03:16 > 0:03:18and it will turn more unsettled as well.
0:03:18 > 0:03:19It'd be quite windy,
0:03:19 > 0:03:21accentuating the chilly feel to things.
0:03:21 > 0:03:23There'll be rain around as well,
0:03:23 > 0:03:26maybe not just rain over the hills in the north of the UK,
0:03:26 > 0:03:28it could be cold enough for a bit of snow.
