0:00:02 > 0:00:05The Easter weekend is almost upon us and, as predicted,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08it's not exactly looking ideal.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11We're certainly expecting quite a bit of cloud, the possibility

0:00:11 > 0:00:16of some rain and it's also going to be on the cool side.

0:00:16 > 0:00:17In fact, by the time we get to Saturday,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20winds coming straight out of the Arctic.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23We're not expecting Arctic weather, but it is going to be chilly.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25So Good Friday, a fair bit of cloud across the UK.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29You can see where the blobs of rain are, affecting many western

0:00:29 > 0:00:30and northern areas of the UK,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32probably the best of the weather across the south coast here.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35Looking out to sea, we could have some sunshine,

0:00:35 > 0:00:38showers in Scotland and it's going to be a cool day.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41Maybe 16 in London because it's a bigger city.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43But for most of us around 10 to 13 degrees.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45So a fresh day on the way on Good Friday.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48Then through Good Friday into Saturday, the weather fronts,

0:00:48 > 0:00:51which bring all the cloud and spots of rain, move across the country.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55Behind the weather front, the winds swing direction and we start

0:00:55 > 0:00:57to import colder air coming in from the north.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00You can see the temperatures much lower already across Scotland.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02So the colder air on Saturday originates all the way from

0:01:02 > 0:01:04here, from the Arctic.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07By the time it reaches our shores, it's not that cold any more.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Let's call it cool. So quite a fresh day on the way on Saturday.

0:01:10 > 0:01:11But, actually,

0:01:11 > 0:01:15probably the best day of the Easter weekend because there will be

0:01:15 > 0:01:18a lot of sunshine around, it's just not going to be warm at all.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21In fact, across Scotland, in Glasgow, for example,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24temperatures not higher than around 9 degrees during the daytime.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26So on the nippy side.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Probably lower than we'd like to have it this time of the year.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Here's Easter Day.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32High pressure close to south-western areas of the UK.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35So perhaps Cornwall, Devon, most of the West Country,

0:01:35 > 0:01:39the southern counties enjoying the best of the sunshine on Easter Day.

0:01:39 > 0:01:40More northern areas here,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43looks like a bit more cloud because there is a weather front.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45That weather front's going to hang around through Easter Monday

0:01:45 > 0:01:47as well.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49So high pressure, a weak one,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52is never too far away and that basically means that

0:01:52 > 0:01:55the further south-west you are, the better the weather will be.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58Closer to the east coast where we have lows running down from

0:01:58 > 0:02:01the north, close to the North Sea,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03that's where we're going to see the more unsettled weather.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07On Tuesday, the high pressure tries to squeeze in itself across

0:02:07 > 0:02:08most of the UK.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11So it does looks as though the southern two thirds of the

0:02:11 > 0:02:12country are looking dry.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14This is very uncertain, by the way.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18Whereas northern areas possibly getting a little bit of rainfall.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21This rain, in fact, could be here, could be a little bit further south.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Now, look what happens as we head into the middle of next week.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26A more substantial area of high pressure here. Low pressure there.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28When you get this sort of set-up,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31the winds keep on coming in from that north-westerly direction.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34So the weather is not changing, the air's not about to warm up.

0:02:34 > 0:02:39Still those measly temperatures of 9 in the north, maybe 14 in the south.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42And, to be honest, into next week, looking at it schematically,

0:02:42 > 0:02:45we still have that low here,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47the high pressure there and that cooler air stream.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49We've been looking at this for a few days now.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52There is a hint that a little bit later on next week,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54perhaps this high pulls away.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58That's not great news because it may also mean that the low pressures

0:02:58 > 0:03:01have more room, if you like,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04to push through the UK and bring us slightly more unsettled weather.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08But it is very uncertain. Why is the forecast so uncertain?

0:03:08 > 0:03:12When the jet stream is very weak, very slack,

0:03:12 > 0:03:14we don't really get much movement in the atmosphere.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18It's very difficult to predict where the highs and lows are going to be.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21So, to summarise it, very briefly, next week northern areas are

0:03:21 > 0:03:24likely to catch showers, maybe some showers in the east too.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27Always the best of the weather across the south-west.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Thanks for watching and have a great Easter.
