0:00:04 > 0:00:05Hello there.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07High pressure will never be far away from our shores as

0:00:07 > 0:00:09we go through the week ahead.

0:00:09 > 0:00:10What does that mean?

0:00:10 > 0:00:12Well, it means a fair amount of dry weather in the

0:00:12 > 0:00:15forecast and some of us have had some dry weather on Easter Sunday,

0:00:15 > 0:00:18with some sunny spells.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20But it wasn't the case everywhere.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22There was thicker cloud and some outbreaks of rain

0:00:22 > 0:00:25as well further north.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27This from one of our Weather Watchers in Cumbria.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29But the weather system responsible is moving off into the

0:00:29 > 0:00:31near continent, leaving high pressure to take control from

0:00:31 > 0:00:33the west.

0:00:33 > 0:00:37However, with this area of low pressure to the east, we start

0:00:37 > 0:00:41Easter Monday with a northerly wind, and particularly behind this

0:00:41 > 0:00:44front here, which will be diving south, we are going to have some

0:00:44 > 0:00:47cold air working its way and that air coming all the way from

0:00:47 > 0:00:48the Arctic.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51So certainly quite a chilly feel to the day and some wintry

0:00:51 > 0:00:55showers sliding across northern and eastern areas.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Most of snow over high ground, particularly as this front gets down

0:00:57 > 0:01:01as far south as northern England.

0:01:01 > 0:01:02Elsewhere, we will see some spells of sunshine

0:01:02 > 0:01:05developing, one or two scattered showers, temperatures though just

0:01:05 > 0:01:08eight degrees in Aberdeen with a fairly brisk breeze as well.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Now our little weather front continues to

0:01:12 > 0:01:14journey its way south through the night.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17As the skies clear, behind it is going to turn chilly,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19particularly out in the countryside.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25A really frosty night to come in places.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28That could be a bit of a shock to the system if you're

0:01:28 > 0:01:30heading back to work early on Tuesday morning.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32But as well as frosty nights in the week ahead,

0:01:32 > 0:01:35there is going to be a lot of dry weather and some spells

0:01:35 > 0:01:36of sunshine.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38High pressure, it's still with us on Tuesday.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40If anything it drifts back south-westwards across the UK.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42Notice though fairly tightly squeezed isobars across this

0:01:42 > 0:01:44south eastern corner.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48So a keen north-easterly breeze making it feel chilly.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Also bringing one or two showers here.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52For most areas though it is a dry day, but

0:01:52 > 0:01:54temperatures particularly across the northern half of the UK,

0:01:54 > 0:01:56pegged back into single digits.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Tuesday night into Wednesday, high pressure firmly in charge.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00It's going to be a very cold night.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Some spots might get down as low as minus six or minus

0:02:06 > 0:02:08seven degrees, believe it or not.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Into Wednesday, still one or two showers across the south-east, but

0:02:10 > 0:02:12we will lose the strength of that north-easterly wind.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Some sunshine in the south.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17More cloud further north and for Thursday that cloudier

0:02:17 > 0:02:19weather will drift further south and east.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Having said that, sunshine in the south-east could lift

0:02:21 > 0:02:21temperatures to 16 or 17 degrees.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Some rain across the far north-west of Scotland.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27Now that wet weather is tied in with this weather front,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30quite a weak affair, but as it slides its

0:02:30 > 0:02:31way across Scotland on

0:02:31 > 0:02:35Friday, it will bring the return of some colder air from the north.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Just nine or ten degrees here on Friday afternoon.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41Whereas towards the south-east, we could well get up

0:02:41 > 0:02:41into the high teens.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43So a bit of a contrast in our temperatures by this stage.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50By next weekend, high pressure is still not that far away,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53but it does drift a little bit further west allowing the winds to

0:02:53 > 0:02:56switch around to more of a northerly.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59Now, of course, it's the jet stream that drives all our

0:02:59 > 0:03:02weather systems and by next weekend the jet stream looks likely to be

0:03:02 > 0:03:06driving down the eastern side of the UK and that is going to spin up

0:03:06 > 0:03:08areas of low pressure, it is closest to these areas of low

0:03:08 > 0:03:10pressure across the north and east that we

0:03:10 > 0:03:13have some potential for some windy and at times wet weather and maybe

0:03:13 > 0:03:14even some wintry showers.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16Because notice that cold air is returning

0:03:16 > 0:03:17from the north.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19So through next weekend and beyond it is going to

0:03:19 > 0:03:22turn colder, frosty nights, it will be windy at times, particularly

0:03:22 > 0:03:25towards the north-east, where there will also be some rain

0:03:25 > 0:03:26and maybe even some wintry showers.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30That's all from me for now.
