0:00:02 > 0:00:06The Easter weekend pretty much panned out as we expected it to

0:00:06 > 0:00:07on the weather front.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10Not a write-off, but certainly on the chilly side.

0:00:10 > 0:00:11Take a look at this.

0:00:11 > 0:00:15Some snow in the Shetland Islands, that's how cold the air has been.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18It's been coming in all the way from the northern climes

0:00:18 > 0:00:20but there has been some good weather around as well.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24Some nice cumulous clouds in Dorset.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27The week ahead will bring some frosty weather, especially

0:00:27 > 0:00:30the first couple of days, two or three days of this week.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32There will be plenty of sunny spells around during the day

0:00:32 > 0:00:34but the mornings will be on the nippy side.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Certainly Tuesday will be cold first thing

0:00:36 > 0:00:38across the northern half of the UK.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40In the Glens of Scotland first thing on Tuesday,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42it could even be -8 degrees.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44But plenty of sunshine on offer.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47Tuesday looks absolutely fine across most of the UK.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Beautiful weather in the south and the east, some strong sunshine.

0:00:50 > 0:00:51A bit on the cool side.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Whereas the north-west of the UK,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55thicker cloud and we've also got some spots of rain.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58There is just a very weak weather front moving through into

0:00:58 > 0:01:01north-western areas during the course

0:01:01 > 0:01:03of Tuesday night into Wednesday.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Let's have a look at the temperatures

0:01:05 > 0:01:07first thing on Wednesday. Actually this is Tuesday night.

0:01:07 > 0:01:11You can see around zero degrees across central parts

0:01:11 > 0:01:14of the UK and even down to -3 in the far south.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16The reason why it is not quite so frosty across Scotland is

0:01:16 > 0:01:20because we are seeing slightly less cold air coming in off the Atlantic.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Here is Wednesday's weather forecast.

0:01:22 > 0:01:24High pressure in charge of the weather across

0:01:24 > 0:01:25southern parts of the UK.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28So that means this is where the best of the weather will be.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30The best of the sunshine, scattered fair-weather cloud.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Whereas in the north, we have more cloud,

0:01:33 > 0:01:37maybe a few spots of rain and the temperatures not an awful lot

0:01:37 > 0:01:39of difference between the lowlands of Scotland

0:01:39 > 0:01:40and the far south of the UK.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44Around 11 or 12. London always that little bit warmer.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47And then into Thursday, that high pressure still sticks around

0:01:47 > 0:01:49across the south of the UK.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51So again little change here.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Variable amount of cloud. You get the message, a lot of dry weather.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58You get a high pressure - lots of dry weather around.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02Most just thick cloud from time to time. 16 maybe the top temperature.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Then we start to see a change on Friday.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08This line of rain here doesn't look like much on the forecast but

0:02:08 > 0:02:12this is a cold front and behind it we've got a surge of cold air.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16So the cold air towards the end of the week will be resurging.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19High pressure here, low pressure there.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21When you get the isobars scraping down

0:02:21 > 0:02:23that is where the air is coming from.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26This one is coming in from Iceland, from the Norwegian Sea.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29So, yet again, towards the end of the week,

0:02:29 > 0:02:33and into the weekend we are going to see that colder air returning.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Single figure temperatures from Newcastle.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38Just about into double figures there across Yorkshire.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Beyond that, the high pressure is still here,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43the low pressure is there

0:02:43 > 0:02:44the isobars are coming in from the north.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46This is the Arctic we are talking about.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49You can see a fetch from the far north so still chilly air.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51But a high pressure is close by.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53The jet stream is coming in from the north again

0:02:53 > 0:02:55so our air is coming from the north too.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59In this sort of situation, we don't often get an awful lot of rain.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01So, yes, it's going to be on the cool side

0:03:01 > 0:03:04but very little rain on the way.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06The rain that we do get may come from these little small areas

0:03:06 > 0:03:08of low pressure that may be riding around the high.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11But to get proper rainfall, if you are gardener,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14you need loads to come from here and whoosh across into the UK.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16We are not expecting that.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19High pressure will be generally dominating our weather.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20So it is going to stay on the cold side,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23there will be some frosty nights and, at times, particularly across

0:03:23 > 0:03:27northern areas, it might be a little on the windy side.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29That's it from me, thanks for watching.
