0:00:02 > 0:00:03Well, after a fairly chilly Easter weekend,
0:00:03 > 0:00:07most of us woke up to some sunshine on Tuesday morning,
0:00:07 > 0:00:08but it was cold,
0:00:08 > 0:00:10particularly across Scotland.
0:00:10 > 0:00:11Temperatures in the glens
0:00:11 > 0:00:13got down to minus six degrees
0:00:13 > 0:00:14and now Tuesday night into Wednesday,
0:00:14 > 0:00:16it's the south where we're going to see
0:00:16 > 0:00:18the lowest temperatures overnight.
0:00:18 > 0:00:20Here's a satellite picture from earlier on.
0:00:20 > 0:00:22The clearer skies prevalent across the south
0:00:22 > 0:00:25so here temperatures will be dipping away
0:00:25 > 0:00:26during the early hours of Wednesday,
0:00:26 > 0:00:28whereas to the north with a weak weather front
0:00:28 > 0:00:30pushing through, more cloud,
0:00:30 > 0:00:31it won't be quite so cold.
0:00:31 > 0:00:32Now in city centres
0:00:32 > 0:00:34throughout the country,
0:00:34 > 0:00:36it won't be that cold - five or six degrees,
0:00:36 > 0:00:37but in rural areas
0:00:37 > 0:00:38and even some suburban areas,
0:00:38 > 0:00:40temperatures will be close to freezing
0:00:40 > 0:00:42or below, perhaps even as low as minus four degrees
0:00:42 > 0:00:44so once again, a chance of some of those tender plants
0:00:44 > 0:00:47being affected by the frost first thing in the morning.
0:00:47 > 0:00:49But the morning is starting beautiful
0:00:49 > 0:00:51across the south.
0:00:51 > 0:00:52Really lovely weather,
0:00:52 > 0:00:53feeling quite fresh out there.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55Five or six degrees, the winds are light.
0:00:55 > 0:00:56The sun's pretty strong
0:00:56 > 0:00:58at eight o'clock in the morning
0:00:58 > 0:00:59so perhaps we won't feel that cold.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01The frost will be around
0:01:01 > 0:01:03only just before dawn, I think.
0:01:03 > 0:01:04The further north you go,
0:01:04 > 0:01:06the thicker the cloud is.
0:01:06 > 0:01:08In fact, even some spots of rain around
0:01:08 > 0:01:09in one or two places,
0:01:09 > 0:01:10but really very, very light
0:01:10 > 0:01:12and feeling a little bit milder,
0:01:12 > 0:01:14maybe eight or nine degrees.
0:01:14 > 0:01:15Through the course of the day,
0:01:15 > 0:01:16we are thinking that some of this cloud
0:01:16 > 0:01:18is going to drift further south
0:01:18 > 0:01:20so perhaps throughout Wales,
0:01:20 > 0:01:22most of northern England and the Midlands,
0:01:22 > 0:01:23it may cloud over,
0:01:23 > 0:01:24but even here, the clouds will break
0:01:24 > 0:01:25from time to time.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28The best of the weather will be across the south,
0:01:28 > 0:01:30the south-east and eastern parts of Scotland
0:01:30 > 0:01:32are in for some sunshine and not so bad there
0:01:32 > 0:01:33on the temperature front,
0:01:33 > 0:01:35maybe 14 degrees in eastern Scotland.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37Thursday, we have high pressure
0:01:37 > 0:01:39across southern areas of the UK,
0:01:39 > 0:01:40weather front towards the north
0:01:40 > 0:01:42so perhaps some spots of rain
0:01:42 > 0:01:43around in the far north of Scotland,
0:01:43 > 0:01:45maybe affecting the Western Isles as well.
0:01:45 > 0:01:46For most of us,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48a fairly brightish sort of day.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50A lot of this cloud will be fairly thin
0:01:50 > 0:01:52so perhaps hazy skies for most of us.
0:01:52 > 0:01:5415 in London, maybe even 15 again
0:01:54 > 0:01:56across eastern parts of Scotland.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58Now, a subtle change on the way
0:01:58 > 0:02:00towards the end of the week.
0:02:00 > 0:02:02This cold front will be very sluggishly moving
0:02:02 > 0:02:05across the UK and introducing fresher air,
0:02:05 > 0:02:07colder air from the north
0:02:07 > 0:02:08so ahead of it temporarily,
0:02:08 > 0:02:10depending on how much sunshine we're going to get,
0:02:10 > 0:02:12we could get up to 17 in London,
0:02:12 > 0:02:13whereas from the north,
0:02:13 > 0:02:15that fresher air really will be oozing down
0:02:15 > 0:02:17and through Friday night
0:02:17 > 0:02:18and you can think of this line here,
0:02:18 > 0:02:21the cold here and the warmer further south,
0:02:21 > 0:02:23that's the cold front moving through Friday night
0:02:23 > 0:02:25so once again towards the weekend,
0:02:25 > 0:02:28we are going to see some fresher north-westerly winds,
0:02:28 > 0:02:30but with high pressure very close by,
0:02:30 > 0:02:32we're never really going to get an awful lot of rain.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34At most, just thicker cloud at times
0:02:34 > 0:02:36and a few spots of rain,
0:02:36 > 0:02:37which is not great news for gardeners
0:02:37 > 0:02:39because we haven't seen an awful lot of rain
0:02:39 > 0:02:41for quite some time.
0:02:41 > 0:02:43High pressures just to the west of our neighbourhood.
0:02:43 > 0:02:45We keep those north-westerly winds
0:02:45 > 0:02:47through Saturday and most of the weekend.
0:02:47 > 0:02:50Now, here's the weekend schematic once again,
0:02:50 > 0:02:52so we've got that high pressure here,
0:02:52 > 0:02:53the low pressure there
0:02:53 > 0:02:55and think of the air almost being
0:02:55 > 0:02:57sort of corkscrewed between the two,
0:02:57 > 0:02:59almost pushed through like putty further south
0:02:59 > 0:03:00so colder air digs in
0:03:00 > 0:03:02into other parts of Europe as well,
0:03:02 > 0:03:04but it's not desperately cold.
0:03:04 > 0:03:05Now, also what we're forecasting
0:03:05 > 0:03:07is a jet stream out of the north-west.
0:03:07 > 0:03:09Notice these little ripples in the jet stream.
0:03:09 > 0:03:10That's an indication
0:03:10 > 0:03:12that there will be little low pressures
0:03:12 > 0:03:14moving towards the north of us,
0:03:14 > 0:03:16perhaps bringing some outbreaks of rain,
0:03:16 > 0:03:18so any rain that we will get
0:03:18 > 0:03:19will be coming in from the north
0:03:19 > 0:03:21and that doesn't often bring an awful lot of rain
0:03:21 > 0:03:24so mostly dry, most of that rain that does arrive
0:03:24 > 0:03:25will be further north
0:03:25 > 0:03:27and it is going to stay on the cool side.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29Bye-bye.
