0:00:02 > 0:00:04Before we have a look at the weather for the next few days,

0:00:04 > 0:00:07I just want to show you how dry April has been.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09It's been a very quiet weather month,

0:00:09 > 0:00:11we've not seen many weather systems

0:00:11 > 0:00:12sweep through the UK

0:00:12 > 0:00:14and the brown here shows

0:00:14 > 0:00:16how very little rainfall

0:00:16 > 0:00:17has fallen so far

0:00:17 > 0:00:18so we still have to

0:00:18 > 0:00:19get through the rest of April,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21but it doesn't look like

0:00:21 > 0:00:23there'll be a lot of rain coming our way at all,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26at least for the remainder of this week and into next week,

0:00:26 > 0:00:30it'll stay fairly calm and cloudy,

0:00:30 > 0:00:31perhaps a little bit warmer

0:00:31 > 0:00:33over the next two or three days

0:00:33 > 0:00:34and then beyond that,

0:00:34 > 0:00:36we'll see there are some changes on the way,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38something perhaps a little bit more dynamic

0:00:38 > 0:00:40sweeping off the Atlantic,

0:00:40 > 0:00:41but not in the short term.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43So, this is Thursday's weather forecast -

0:00:43 > 0:00:46just cloudy, a few spits and spots of rain.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48That is pretty much it

0:00:48 > 0:00:50so a quiet day on the way

0:00:50 > 0:00:52for most of us on Thursday.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Friday, high pressure to the south of the UK

0:00:54 > 0:00:55so again lots of settled weather.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Not necessarily all that sunny

0:00:57 > 0:00:59and a weather front moving in from the north.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Now, this is a weak weather front.

0:01:01 > 0:01:02It's going to produce a little bit of rain

0:01:02 > 0:01:04into western parts of Scotland.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06By the time it sinks southwards,

0:01:06 > 0:01:08there's not really going to be

0:01:08 > 0:01:09much rainfall on it at all.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Ahead of it, temperatures could just about

0:01:11 > 0:01:14warm up to 17 degrees in London.

0:01:14 > 0:01:15For most of us,

0:01:15 > 0:01:17it'll be a little bit cooler than that.

0:01:17 > 0:01:18Then on Saturday,

0:01:18 > 0:01:21high pressure establishes itself across the UK.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Again, lots of settled weather.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25If the clouds gather, there might be a few spots of rain

0:01:25 > 0:01:28here and there, just light, fleeting rain,

0:01:28 > 0:01:29but nothing more than that.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Winds will be generally light as well

0:01:32 > 0:01:33and actually a fair bit of cloud

0:01:33 > 0:01:35so this high pressure is not going to bring

0:01:35 > 0:01:36an awful lot of sunshine

0:01:36 > 0:01:39and if anything, quite chilly, cloudy conditions

0:01:39 > 0:01:41across some of the more northern parts of the UK.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43As you can see, only nine degrees there in Newcastle.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45And then here's the change.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47So, Sunday into Monday,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49potentially we could see this nasty area

0:01:49 > 0:01:52of low pressure sweeping to the north of Scotland

0:01:52 > 0:01:53or over Scotland.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Now, this forecast certainly is a little uncertain

0:01:56 > 0:01:59at this stage, but gale force winds are possible

0:01:59 > 0:02:02across Scotland and some heavier rain as well.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04To the south of that, a lot, lot quieter

0:02:04 > 0:02:06because low is quite far away.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08London Marathon on Sunday - 16 degrees, I think,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10could be the top temperature in the afternoon.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Now, let's focus on this low again.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14So, here it is early on Monday,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17you can see sweeping across the North Sea

0:02:17 > 0:02:18into Norway there

0:02:18 > 0:02:20and then its cold front moving southwards.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22This could be quite a significant cold front

0:02:22 > 0:02:24in terms of just how much cold air

0:02:24 > 0:02:26is going to seep out of the Arctic regions.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29Look at this cold plunge Monday into Tuesday.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31Now, this could be very chilly air indeed

0:02:31 > 0:02:33for the time of the year so, for example,

0:02:33 > 0:02:34if you're taking a walk

0:02:34 > 0:02:36down the North Sea coast,

0:02:36 > 0:02:37down one of the promenades there,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39it really could be quite cold.

0:02:39 > 0:02:40You might need a coat.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Really chilly, gusty winds as well.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Inland, with the strong sunshine,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47probably not feeling too cold.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50The jet stream really takes a dive

0:02:50 > 0:02:52through the middle part of the week

0:02:52 > 0:02:54and out of the northern climes,

0:02:54 > 0:02:55when we get this dive, we see colder air

0:02:55 > 0:02:57always seeping in

0:02:57 > 0:02:59so we're on this cold side of the jet.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01The warmer air is towards the south

0:03:01 > 0:03:03so I think the summary into next week

0:03:03 > 0:03:06is there'll be some sunshine around with this cold air

0:03:06 > 0:03:08surging in from the north, but that cold air,

0:03:08 > 0:03:11combined with the strong sunshine,

0:03:11 > 0:03:13may lead to some big rainstorms forming

0:03:13 > 0:03:16so we could see some hit and miss very heavy showers,

0:03:16 > 0:03:17even some hail in places as well.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19So, here's the summary for next week.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21That chilly wind out of the north,

0:03:21 > 0:03:22thundery showers possible

0:03:22 > 0:03:24and overnight, when we get clearer skies,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26there is a risk of the frost returning

0:03:26 > 0:03:28so not warming up in a hurry.
