0:00:03 > 0:00:04Hello.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06This Weather For The Week ahead forecast just about takes us

0:00:06 > 0:00:09to the end of May but, would you believe it,

0:00:09 > 0:00:11it looks as if winter is returning early next week.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14In the sunshine, it feels glorious, and we had 19 degrees

0:00:14 > 0:00:15in eastern Scotland, some beautiful sunshine

0:00:15 > 0:00:17in north-east England on Thursday.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19It was a cloudy affair predominantly.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22This was more akin to the rest of the UK, Stone in Staffordshire.

0:00:22 > 0:00:23But it certainly wasn't a disappointment.

0:00:23 > 0:00:27There will be plenty more dry weather on Friday as well.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29Perhaps some early fog south of the M4.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31You can see our weather front is sinking its way south,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34so it will be a different day for the east of Scotland

0:00:34 > 0:00:35in particular.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38Cloudy here and much cooler as well, 10 and 11.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41There is still the potential in the south, if we see

0:00:41 > 0:00:43the breaks in the cloud, for 16 or 17 degrees,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45which is above average for this time of year.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48And it will remain above average where we see the sunshine this

0:00:48 > 0:00:51weekend, despite that cold air making its way southwards.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53That will give us some chilly nights with the risk

0:00:53 > 0:00:56of a touch of grass frost, but the high pressure will mean

0:00:56 > 0:01:00that the weather front will be quite weak and there won't be a great deal

0:01:00 > 0:01:04of rain on it.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06For many of us, it's just predominantly cloudy on Saturday,

0:01:06 > 0:01:09to start, then some breaks come in the cloud, but we are

0:01:09 > 0:01:10behind that cold front.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12There will be some sunshine coming out.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13Quite a different day potentially for the Midlands,

0:01:13 > 0:01:17having had a day or two of cloud, but where we keep the cloud

0:01:17 > 0:01:19it still feels chilly, particularly in that wind.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21To the south of that, we've got that milder air.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24We keep a very similar sort of weather picture on Sunday,

0:01:24 > 0:01:27although there's a difference in the north, but we are watching

0:01:27 > 0:01:28this area of low pressure.

0:01:28 > 0:01:29We've been talking about it all week.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32It could be bringing us severe gales and some very wet weather,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34so it's one to watch.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37It just looks at the moment as if it will be for the northern half

0:01:37 > 0:01:39of the UK, particularly northern Scotland.

0:01:39 > 0:01:40Severe gales here.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42For many of us, Sunday isn't a bad day.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44It's very usable weather, that rain later in the day,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46and we could see 16, despite it being colder air,

0:01:46 > 0:01:50just because of the strength of the sun at this time of year.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53So it does look quite aggressive, that low pressure, but it's starting

0:01:53 > 0:01:55to move out of the way, and it's allowing a northerly

0:01:55 > 0:01:58wind to come southwards, and a much colder air stream right

0:01:58 > 0:02:00down from the Arctic, so true cold air, and it really

0:02:00 > 0:02:04will be a shock to the system for some of us and, indeed,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06we will see some wintry showers, and not just at higher levels.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09It all takes place, the change, behind this cold weather front.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Not a great deal of rain, we don't think, on the weather system,

0:02:12 > 0:02:15although it will provide for a cloudy day in southern

0:02:15 > 0:02:17areas but, behind it, we open those northerly winds up,

0:02:17 > 0:02:20and there will be lots of showers around, with hail and thunder

0:02:20 > 0:02:21and sleet and snow.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23It's a strong wind at times, squally as well, so it

0:02:23 > 0:02:24will accentuate the chill.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27We could still see 15, just about, that milder air just hanging

0:02:27 > 0:02:29on in the south on Monday.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32But, by the end of Monday, not just a shock to our system

0:02:32 > 0:02:35but also for the flora and fauna so, gardeners and growers, beware.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38But some big hail certainly possible from those big

0:02:38 > 0:02:41showers and thunderstorms.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44As I say, some very unsettled, disturbed air heading our way.

0:02:44 > 0:02:48It stays that way through midweek.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50We've got this feed of cold northerly air.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53The high pressure is trying to cut that off, so gradually

0:02:53 > 0:02:56towards the end of the week we'll start to see the grass frost

0:02:56 > 0:03:00becoming less severe and the cold air being cut off,

0:03:00 > 0:03:05so potentially not such a thick frost later in the week,

0:03:05 > 0:03:08but certainly starting that way in the middle part of the week,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10and eventually, with that cold air being cut off,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13the showers and big thunderstorms should become less prevalent

0:03:13 > 0:03:17as well, and the snow showers should become mostly confined to the hills.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20But, as I say, it does look as if winter is making its return

0:03:20 > 0:03:22from Monday onwards, and a really chilly

0:03:22 > 0:03:24feel in that wind.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27A real risk of thunder, hail, sleet and snow and, of course,

0:03:27 > 0:03:28the night-time frosts.

0:03:28 > 0:03:29Bye-bye.

0:03:29 > 0:03:29Bye-bye.
