0:00:03 > 0:00:04Chilly weather looms.

0:00:04 > 0:00:07In fact, Mother Nature is about to remind us that winter was

0:00:07 > 0:00:09not that long ago.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12Certainly, a dose of winter on the way for some of us early this week.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14But it's not going to be that cold.

0:00:14 > 0:00:18We're not expecting drifts or deepfreeze necessarily,

0:00:18 > 0:00:20it's just going to feel really chilly.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Don't forget, the sun is very strong this time of year,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26so actually, it's very difficult to get especially

0:00:26 > 0:00:28low temperatures towards the end of April.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32It's if you're caught in the shower clouds, if you're in the shade,

0:00:32 > 0:00:34if you are having a walk down the seafront -

0:00:34 > 0:00:35for example, the North Sea coast -

0:00:35 > 0:00:38that's where it's going to feel on the chilly side,

0:00:38 > 0:00:42and you will need your thick coats, possibly hats and gloves as well.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45This cold front here that's set into motion, that is the cold front

0:00:45 > 0:00:49that will be introducing that colder air from the Arctic.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52On Monday, we're still just about hanging on to some of that

0:00:52 > 0:00:54milder weather across the South.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57But look at the wintry showers affecting Scotland,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00the south of Scotland, possibly the north-east of England as well.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03And then into Monday, that colder air will have reached areas

0:01:03 > 0:01:05as far south as northern France.

0:01:05 > 0:01:09Then on Tuesday, we're well and truly in this cold blast of air.

0:01:09 > 0:01:13And it will be wintry showers hail, showers,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16particularly across these northern, northeastern

0:01:16 > 0:01:18and eastern areas of the UK.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20But also inland there'll be some wintry showers around.

0:01:20 > 0:01:25Most of us will probably get sunshine, the occasional shower,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27big storm clouds like this, possibly even a hailstorm.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30And if any snow does fall during the daytime,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33it's most likely to settle across the hills

0:01:33 > 0:01:37rather than in our gardens, if you live in towns and cities.

0:01:37 > 0:01:38So, actually, for many of us,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41it will be quite a sunny day on Tuesday, but a chilly one.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Those temperatures really will struggle.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46As we head into Wednesday,

0:01:46 > 0:01:49high pressure starts to build off the Atlantic,

0:01:49 > 0:01:53but with winds blowing like so, we still have northerly winds.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57So the source, where the air's coming from, is still pretty nippy.

0:01:57 > 0:01:58So again, another chilly day,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01but I don't think it's going to be as cold as Tuesday.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03Still showers around on Wednesday,

0:02:03 > 0:02:06and those temperatures struggling, single figures for many of us,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09just about double figures across southern parts of the UK.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Look what happens by the time we get to Thursday.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14This colder Arctic air, which would have originated from the north,

0:02:14 > 0:02:18of course, is squeezed out, cut off,

0:02:18 > 0:02:22once this milder air starts racing in off the Atlantic.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25The transition will happen from Wednesday into Thursday,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27we'll see a switch in the wind direction,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30and that milder air will start toppling over the UK.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33But it still will be a fairly cloudy day, and for some of us,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35no doubt, it'll feel on the chilly side.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38And then towards Friday, I think the weather's looking

0:02:38 > 0:02:39a little bit more like normal.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42We'll start to see weather fronts lining up in the Atlantic,

0:02:42 > 0:02:45heading in our direction, and there probably will be some rain

0:02:45 > 0:02:48heading towards parts of Scotland.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52Let's take a look at the jet stream as we head towards the weekend.

0:02:52 > 0:02:57This is probably very early in the weekend, sometime Friday night.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00Very quickly, this jet stream, with the low pressure sitting here and

0:03:00 > 0:03:02the unsettled weather and rain,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05that jet stream will push its way towards the east.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07So around Saturday/Sunday, that dip in the jet stream,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09with the low pressure, will be over us,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11and we're expecting unsettled weather.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15So the weekend is looking unsettled, next weekend.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17Then very quickly, the thinking is that dip in the jet stream

0:03:17 > 0:03:20with the low pressure will push towards the east,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22then we'll start to see high pressure building

0:03:22 > 0:03:24and things will settle down.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27So, early next week, it looks like the weather will dry out

0:03:27 > 0:03:30and it should be fairly pleasant. Bye-bye.
