0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. April draws to a close and we finally found our April showers.
0:00:05 > 0:00:09But I suspect for many the month will be characterised with
0:00:09 > 0:00:10pictures like this.
0:00:10 > 0:00:13We'll have these lovely memories of beautiful spring blossom,
0:00:13 > 0:00:18a lot of dry weather around and from time to time some sunshine.
0:00:18 > 0:00:21And that is because we have had this fairly consistent pattern
0:00:21 > 0:00:24with the jet stream sitting out in the Atlantic allowing high
0:00:24 > 0:00:28pressure from the near continent to dominate the weather story.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30But, as we move toward the bank holiday weekend,
0:00:30 > 0:00:33we are set for things to change, albeit briefly.
0:00:33 > 0:00:36With an injection of heat moving out of the States and that is
0:00:36 > 0:00:40going to add fuel to the fire to the jet stream, almost add this
0:00:40 > 0:00:44energy into it and allow the jet stream to squeeze together.
0:00:44 > 0:00:47A colleague of mine described this as pulling a piece of Blu-Tack.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50Eventually, the more you pull, it will snap.
0:00:50 > 0:00:53We will start to see this area of low pressure develop
0:00:53 > 0:00:55down to the south-west.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58There is a level of uncertainty as to where that low is going to
0:00:58 > 0:01:01be sitting as we move towards the bank holiday weekend,
0:01:01 > 0:01:04but the jet stream always wants to take the easier option and that
0:01:04 > 0:01:07is going to drift across the north of the low allowing this to
0:01:07 > 0:01:09dominate, albeit briefly.
0:01:09 > 0:01:11More on that in just a moment.
0:01:11 > 0:01:12Back to Friday's weather -
0:01:12 > 0:01:15relatively quiet with some sunshine around.
0:01:15 > 0:01:17The showers should be fairly isolated on Friday.
0:01:17 > 0:01:20One or two spits and spots across Wales and the south-west and
0:01:20 > 0:01:25a few generally out of the west with highs of 8 to 13 degrees.
0:01:25 > 0:01:27As we move out of Friday into Saturday,
0:01:27 > 0:01:30not a bad start to our extended weekend.
0:01:30 > 0:01:32A good deal of dry weather in the story.
0:01:32 > 0:01:35Eventually, we'll start to see the winds increasing.
0:01:35 > 0:01:38But the winds are coming from a southerly direction so,
0:01:38 > 0:01:39in comparison to earlier in the week,
0:01:39 > 0:01:41it is going to feel noticeably warmer.
0:01:41 > 0:01:45We could see temperatures as high as 15 degrees with the sunshine.
0:01:45 > 0:01:48Just a scattering of isolated showers further north.
0:01:48 > 0:01:499 to 15 degrees the high.
0:01:49 > 0:01:53The breeze picking up across those exposed west-facing coasts.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55Eventually, we will start see some rain.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57So this is the level of uncertainty -
0:01:57 > 0:02:01just where this low is likely to be sitting as we move out of
0:02:01 > 0:02:03Saturday into Sunday. At the moment,
0:02:03 > 0:02:07thoughts are it will be pushing into the south-west and across to Wales.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10Do not make this the last forecast you see.
0:02:10 > 0:02:14Keep abreast of the story as we go into the bank holiday weekend.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16That front will eventually move its way north and east.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19Somewhat erratically so, again, there is
0:02:19 > 0:02:22a level of uncertainty as to how much rain we are likely to see
0:02:22 > 0:02:24as it moves north and east.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26But one thing is for sure on Bank Holiday Monday,
0:02:26 > 0:02:28we will see one front clearing away to the north-east.
0:02:28 > 0:02:32A slice of drier, sunnier weather following on behind and in
0:02:32 > 0:02:34the sunshine, it'll feel quite pleasant.
0:02:34 > 0:02:3816 degrees is not out of the question, that is 61 Fahrenheit.
0:02:38 > 0:02:40Now, as we move into Tuesday,
0:02:40 > 0:02:42we always keep a bit more of a breeze out to the west.
0:02:42 > 0:02:46These weather fronts will encroach on the western fringes.
0:02:46 > 0:02:48Not really further inland.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51So we are back to a good slice of dry, sunny weather across
0:02:51 > 0:02:52central and eastern areas.
0:02:52 > 0:02:55And starting to get a degree or so warmer.
0:02:55 > 0:02:59So it really does look as though the jet stream is likely to
0:02:59 > 0:03:03revert back to the pattern that we had in April.
0:03:04 > 0:03:06So for the beginning of May, we have got the jet stream
0:03:06 > 0:03:08out in the Atlantic and the high pressure in the driving seat.
0:03:08 > 0:03:11What that basically means is temperatures are set to climb
0:03:11 > 0:03:13after that chilly few days.
0:03:13 > 0:03:16We could see the potential for temperatures into the 20s
0:03:16 > 0:03:20as we move towards the 6-10 day period.
0:03:20 > 0:03:23So, after those wintry showers and those frosts of recent days,
0:03:23 > 0:03:25if we have still got some bluebells,
0:03:25 > 0:03:28hopefully you will be able to go out and enjoy them.
0:03:28 > 0:03:29More from me tomorrow.
