0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello. It's a bank holiday weekend

0:00:03 > 0:00:05and we have very few bank holiday weekends

0:00:05 > 0:00:07where we get no rain whatsoever.

0:00:07 > 0:00:08This one is no exception.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10It's not going to be a wash-out by any means,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12but some central and southern areas

0:00:12 > 0:00:15will see rain on Sunday and into Bank Holiday Monday.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17One thing is for sure - it has been a little bit warmer,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19certainly than what it has been for the past week,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21where we've had some wintry showers.

0:00:21 > 0:00:22It will turn quite windy,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24particularly on Sunday, and, like I mentioned,

0:00:24 > 0:00:26there will be some rain across southern parts.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Been a glorious day on Saturday

0:00:28 > 0:00:29across the south coast,

0:00:29 > 0:00:30like this picture shows in Hampshire,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32but further north, we had a lot of cloud.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34Now, Sunday's starting off on a dry note -

0:00:34 > 0:00:35quite windy, though.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37There will be spells of sunshine.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Best of it across northern, central

0:00:38 > 0:00:40and eastern areas,

0:00:40 > 0:00:41because across the south-west,

0:00:41 > 0:00:44a weather front will be moving northwards and eastwards,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46introducing some pretty heavy rain in places.

0:00:46 > 0:00:47To the north, it stays dry,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49where you have the sunshine feeling quite warm,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51temperatures into the upper teens Celsius.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Now, this area of low pressure

0:00:53 > 0:00:55will be affecting much of central southern Britain

0:00:55 > 0:00:57through the course of Bank Holiday Monday.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00It looks like some areas will be quite wet,

0:01:00 > 0:01:01other areas seeing some showers,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03and also some sunny spells in-between.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05I think southern coastal areas will see

0:01:05 > 0:01:07most of the rain, it'll feel quite cool,

0:01:07 > 0:01:08with a strong wind.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10Fairly windy across Scotland, but here,

0:01:10 > 0:01:11you'll see the best of the sunshine,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14especially Western Scotland in towards Northern Ireland.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16With some shelter from that easterly wind,

0:01:16 > 0:01:17we could be seeing temperatures

0:01:17 > 0:01:18around 17 or 18 degrees

0:01:18 > 0:01:20across the North-West Highlands.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21Generally speaking,

0:01:21 > 0:01:24around the low to mid teens Celsius in the sunshine.

0:01:24 > 0:01:25Now, this area of low pressure

0:01:25 > 0:01:27eventually begins to pull away

0:01:27 > 0:01:28in towards the near continent.

0:01:28 > 0:01:29Things turn a bit drier

0:01:29 > 0:01:31as we head on in towards Tuesday,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33and then you'll notice high pressure,

0:01:33 > 0:01:34a ridge of high pressure,

0:01:34 > 0:01:35starts to influence our weather.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37So looks like we'll still have the remnants

0:01:37 > 0:01:38of that area of low pressure

0:01:38 > 0:01:40bringing some showers to the east coast,

0:01:40 > 0:01:41in towards East Anglia.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44The further west you are, the better the sunshine,

0:01:44 > 0:01:45and the best of the temperatures.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47And that's the set-up as we head through

0:01:47 > 0:01:48the course of the week -

0:01:48 > 0:01:51west will always fare best, because eastern areas

0:01:51 > 0:01:53will have a bit of a nagging easterly breeze

0:01:53 > 0:01:55and sea temperatures are quite cool

0:01:55 > 0:01:57in the North Sea. Bit of a breeze

0:01:57 > 0:01:59across the south-east, through the Channel,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01that'll take the edge off the temperatures,

0:02:01 > 0:02:02where we'll also have a fair amount of cloud.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Head further inland,

0:02:04 > 0:02:05and when you get some sunshine,

0:02:05 > 0:02:06it'll feel very pleasant,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08especially across Scotland,

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Western Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Now, high pressure is firmly in control

0:02:12 > 0:02:13as we head on in towards Thursday,

0:02:13 > 0:02:15looks like winds will be lighter

0:02:15 > 0:02:17the further north you are, a bit more of a breeze

0:02:17 > 0:02:19across the east and the south-east.

0:02:19 > 0:02:20So feeling quite chilly

0:02:20 > 0:02:22across eastern coastal areas.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23Like I mentioned, further south than west,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25with some sunshine and shelter

0:02:25 > 0:02:26from that north-easterly wind,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28then you'll see the best of the temperatures.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30The reason why it is cool on the coast,

0:02:30 > 0:02:31particularly in the east,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33is because sea temperatures,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35as you can see, are ranging between

0:02:35 > 0:02:367 and 9 Celsius,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38so you'll have to head further inland

0:02:38 > 0:02:40and towards the west, where you have the sunshine,

0:02:40 > 0:02:41to feel the warmth.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Now, as we head beyond this period,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Thursday into Friday,

0:02:45 > 0:02:46high pressure will continue

0:02:46 > 0:02:47to dominate the picture,

0:02:47 > 0:02:49but this area of low pressure

0:02:49 > 0:02:51will be pushing up across southern areas,

0:02:51 > 0:02:52so we could see thicker cloud

0:02:52 > 0:02:54and also a few showers being

0:02:54 > 0:02:56pushed in towards southern England.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57So for the start of May,

0:02:57 > 0:02:58this is the set-up -

0:02:58 > 0:03:00high pressure dominates the scene

0:03:00 > 0:03:01to the north of the UK,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03low pressure to the south,

0:03:03 > 0:03:04and what it will do

0:03:04 > 0:03:06is bring average temperatures,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08maybe even a little below average,

0:03:08 > 0:03:09for the time of year,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11as we will be pulling in air

0:03:11 > 0:03:12off from the North Sea.

0:03:12 > 0:03:13So it will be mainly settled

0:03:13 > 0:03:15closer to that area of high pressure,

0:03:15 > 0:03:17cooler, like I mentioned, particularly at night,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20but in the sunshine, it'll still feel quite warm.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22Further south, we are likely to see a few showers

0:03:22 > 0:03:24and more cloud because of that area of low pressure

0:03:24 > 0:03:25pushing up into Biscay,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28and here, we should see more sunshine

0:03:28 > 0:03:29where it'll feel a little bit warmer.
