0:00:03 > 0:00:05April may be behind us now but the effect of just how dry a month

0:00:05 > 0:00:08it has been for many parts of the UK will be felt for a while yet.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10There isn't a huge amount of

0:00:10 > 0:00:13rainfall in the forecast this week.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Just how dry it's been?

0:00:15 > 0:00:17In Edinburgh just 4mm of rain.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19The driest April on record in Edinburgh.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22There will be more statistics about dry April to come over

0:00:22 > 0:00:25the next few days. We'll bring some of them to you here.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28May started with some notable

0:00:28 > 0:00:30weather in Northern Ireland.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32It was the warmest

0:00:32 > 0:00:34day of the year so far on Monday in

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Northern Ireland and the warmest

0:00:36 > 0:00:38weather of the year so far was enjoyed in

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Scotland as well. Especially in the west.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43It was cooler and cloudier down the east coast of Scotland and

0:00:43 > 0:00:45that is a theme of the weather this week.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47With high pressure to the north and

0:00:47 > 0:00:48the northeast of the UK the

0:00:48 > 0:00:50flow of air is coming in from the

0:00:50 > 0:00:53east and that is a cool direction

0:00:53 > 0:00:55and the air is coming in over a cool

0:00:55 > 0:00:57North Sea at this time of year.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59So we're not going to be particularly warm down the

0:00:59 > 0:01:00eastern side of the UK.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03These are the sea temperatures at the moment.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05The air is cool in the first place

0:01:05 > 0:01:06and cooled closer to that

0:01:06 > 0:01:09sea temperature as it comes in to the east.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12So the theme of the weather this week with high pressure in

0:01:12 > 0:01:14control still plenty of dry weather to come.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16Disappointment if you want something on the garden.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18Coolest with that flow of air coming in from the east

0:01:18 > 0:01:20across the North Sea.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21Warmest in the west

0:01:21 > 0:01:23especially when you get to see

0:01:23 > 0:01:24some sunshine.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28We see that again on Tuesday. More cloud in the east.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30We get some showers running into eastern England,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32a few into the Midlands and southern England.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35In southern England perhaps the odd heavy one.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37Western areas stay mainly dry.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39And it will feel

0:01:39 > 0:01:40quite warm in some sunshine but just 9, 10,

0:01:40 > 0:01:4311 degrees close to that North Sea coast.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46Going into Wednesday we're not changing that weather pattern.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Big areas of low pressure out in the Atlantic but they are being

0:01:49 > 0:01:51blocked from coming our way by the

0:01:51 > 0:01:55high pressure and this easterly flow across the UK.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57More cloud through central and eastern England.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59A few showers, maybe some drizzly rain.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02A lot of sunshine on Wednesday in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Probably the lion's share of it coming through on Thursday as well.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08More cloud further south but actually most places are

0:02:08 > 0:02:10looking dry.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Still that temperature contrast between east and west.

0:02:12 > 0:02:16Still very much there on Friday. If anything a bit breezier.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19High pressure still anchored to the north of the UK.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22A breezy day on Friday with that easterly wind feeling cool

0:02:22 > 0:02:24near the North Sea coast.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26In the shelter to the west it will be

0:02:26 > 0:02:30a pleasant day and the vast majority is still dry.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Going into the weekend though low pressure in the Atlantic may

0:02:33 > 0:02:35try to push a weather front towards us.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38It's not going to have much success,

0:02:38 > 0:02:40may just get the south and southwest of the UK.

0:02:40 > 0:02:45For Saturday this is one to watch. May not even get this close to us.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47For the bulk of the UK it's looking like

0:02:47 > 0:02:50a dry day with those sunny spells once again.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52Into next week nothing changing very

0:02:52 > 0:02:54quickly but there may be

0:02:54 > 0:02:57a subtle change of wind direction from an easterly to

0:02:57 > 0:03:00a north-easterly coming into the UK and that could well be into next

0:03:00 > 0:03:03week the start of the week a colder direction for some of us,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05especially across northern parts of the UK.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08It's high pressure so it is looking

0:03:08 > 0:03:10mainly dry into next week.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Colder for a time especially across the northern half of the UK.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16But there are indications low pressure from the Atlantic may

0:03:16 > 0:03:17become a player again

0:03:17 > 0:03:19in our weather and turn things more

0:03:19 > 0:03:21unsettled later next week

0:03:21 > 0:03:23as high pressure begins to recede.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27We'll keep a close eye on that and keep you updated here.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Until then, mainly dry.
