0:00:03 > 0:00:05The last Weather for the Week Ahead I promised you more

0:00:05 > 0:00:07information about April and how dry it was.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10The full UK picture is now in from the Met Office and it looks

0:00:10 > 0:00:11like this.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13A brown area, drier than average

0:00:13 > 0:00:14for April.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17Little fleck of white in Devon, mainly in northern Scotland

0:00:17 > 0:00:19close to average and a little bit

0:00:19 > 0:00:21of blue above average rainfall.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23There isn't much blue, there's a lot of brown.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26And most places were drier than average, for the UK the tenth

0:00:26 > 0:00:28driest April on record.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30If you're wondering what the difference is between the rain

0:00:30 > 0:00:33in that little speck of blue and the driest place in the UK,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35keep watching, the answer will be revealed.

0:00:35 > 0:00:36Tuesday's weather was

0:00:36 > 0:00:38all about temperature contrast.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40This was from the west of Scotland

0:00:40 > 0:00:42and in fact Scotland had its

0:00:42 > 0:00:44warmest day of the

0:00:44 > 0:00:46year so far, 21 at Achnagart

0:00:46 > 0:00:47in the highlands.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50But just 10 around the Humber with cloud and the breeze off the sea.

0:00:50 > 0:00:54These differences will remain for several more days to come along

0:00:54 > 0:00:58with plenty of dry weather because our weather pattern isn't changing.

0:00:58 > 0:01:02Areas of low pressure being held at bay in the Atlantic by a blocked

0:01:02 > 0:01:04weather pattern with high pressure

0:01:04 > 0:01:05to the north of us around that.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07The east or north-easterly wind

0:01:07 > 0:01:08coming in off the

0:01:08 > 0:01:11North Sea coast keeping it cool, keeping some warmth in the

0:01:11 > 0:01:14sunshine though across western parts of the UK.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18While most places are dry a bit of patchy light rain for parts

0:01:18 > 0:01:21of East Anglia and south-east England during Wednesday,

0:01:21 > 0:01:22not amounting to very much.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23Best of the sunshine,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25northern counties of northern

0:01:25 > 0:01:27England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29A similar picture on Thursday.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33From the cloud across southern areas just one or two showers.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34Not very many.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37Still those temperature contrasts as there will be on Friday.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41The wind will pick up, quite gusty across southern areas here.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45Perhaps a little bit more sunshine across the south than we're

0:01:45 > 0:01:48going to have over the next couple of days.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51There's still a chance the weather front may flirt with the

0:01:51 > 0:01:53southwest of the UK Friday night.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Isles of Scilly, Cornwall into Saturday morning.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Some rain, but still uncertain about that.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02The picture for most of us for Saturday into Sunday is a dry one.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05By Sunday the wind is a little lighter but there could be

0:02:05 > 0:02:08more cloud pushing into some of these North Sea coast.

0:02:08 > 0:02:13Again, temperature contrasts. Some spots reaching into the high teens.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16Into next week the high pressure changing position but it's an

0:02:16 > 0:02:19important change. As it moves towards

0:02:19 > 0:02:21the northwest of us the flow of air more

0:02:21 > 0:02:26from the north and that means colder air begins to push southward

0:02:26 > 0:02:27across the UK.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29Colder for a time next week.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33That's going to be most noticeable where it's been so warm this week.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36Less noticeable where you're so cold at the moment along the

0:02:36 > 0:02:37North Sea coast.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40There is a risk of frost at night, not a widespread threat but

0:02:40 > 0:02:43a few pockets across the northern half of the UK.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Gardeners and growers, heads up about that.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48Some weather disturbances could bring showers southwards

0:02:48 > 0:02:49across the UK.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52The flow of air from the north is not a particularly moist one

0:02:52 > 0:02:54so we don't think that's going to add up to very much,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57but a little bit more unsettled for a time.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00I promised you the difference between the really wet place

0:03:00 > 0:03:02in April in the UK and the driest place.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06The difference between the blue and somewhere in the brown.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08They're not too far apart.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12The wettest place in April was Cluanie Inn in highland Scotland.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15There is an inn at Cluanie Inn.

0:03:18 > 0:03:23In Edinburgh a weather station recorded just 3mm.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26A difference of 220mm over the space of 173 miles if you go via the A9.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29Got to love the British weather.
