0:00:03 > 0:00:04Hello. Warm and sunny, cold or grey -

0:00:04 > 0:00:06it's one or the other, not much in between

0:00:06 > 0:00:08in the UK at the moment.

0:00:08 > 0:00:09Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:00:09 > 0:00:10have seen most of the warm and sunny -

0:00:10 > 0:00:12this is the view from Wednesday

0:00:12 > 0:00:14at Lowestoft in Suffolk,

0:00:14 > 0:00:15and we saw the cold and grey here,

0:00:15 > 0:00:19even a bit of rain in places into south-east England, as well.

0:00:19 > 0:00:20You can see the cloud coming in,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22and the temperature, we've noticed,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24has barely budged along the coast of East Anglia

0:00:24 > 0:00:25from the Tuesday night

0:00:25 > 0:00:27right the way through until now.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29In fact, the low on Tuesday night was 9 Celsius.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33The high on Wednesday, round about 9 Celsius -

0:00:33 > 0:00:36and the temperature of the sea water off the coast,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38dip your toe in, 9 Celsius.

0:00:38 > 0:00:39And look at this.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41There is a breeze coming in off the sea.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43It's a north-easterly breeze,

0:00:43 > 0:00:44not a warm direction for us,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46and look how much of the North Sea

0:00:46 > 0:00:47this breeze is coming over

0:00:47 > 0:00:50before hitting that coastline of East Anglia.

0:00:50 > 0:00:51So, what we find is, the area is cooled

0:00:51 > 0:00:54closer to that sea temperature of 9 degrees,

0:00:54 > 0:00:55and that's why the temperature

0:00:55 > 0:00:57only reaches around 9 degrees

0:00:57 > 0:00:59underneath that cloud cover in the east.

0:00:59 > 0:01:00Now, it's still a north-easterly breeze

0:01:00 > 0:01:02to the west, but there's some separation

0:01:02 > 0:01:04between Achnagart, here,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06at 20 Celsius on Wednesday in north-west Scotland

0:01:06 > 0:01:07and the North Sea,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09and, of course, there's some sunshine

0:01:09 > 0:01:10to warm the air -

0:01:10 > 0:01:12strong sunshine at this time of year.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13And those contrasts will continue

0:01:13 > 0:01:16as long as this weather pattern does -

0:01:16 > 0:01:18and it's got a lot of life left in it yet.

0:01:18 > 0:01:19With high pressure to the north of us,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21the flow of air coming around that,

0:01:21 > 0:01:22over the North Sea,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24that's pushing that cooler air

0:01:24 > 0:01:25into the North Sea coast,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27whereas, elsewhere, further west,

0:01:27 > 0:01:28you get more warmth -

0:01:28 > 0:01:30you get the best of the sunshine, too.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32Similar picture, then, for Thursday -

0:01:32 > 0:01:34and whilst many places are looking dry

0:01:34 > 0:01:35in this flow of air,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37there will be a few showers around towards southern England,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39maybe some early ones into the Midlands

0:01:39 > 0:01:41and, again, into East Anglia.

0:01:41 > 0:01:439, 10, 11 degrees, North Sea coast,

0:01:43 > 0:01:44but into the high teens,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46a few spots in the west.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Little change by Friday.

0:01:48 > 0:01:49Still picking up a few showers

0:01:49 > 0:01:50in that flow into East Anglia,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52south-east England.

0:01:52 > 0:01:53By the way, this is quite a brisk wind,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56as well, quite gusty in places.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Now, there's something we'll keep on watching

0:01:58 > 0:01:59into the start of the weekend -

0:01:59 > 0:02:01this weather system just pushing up from the south,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03which threatens to bring a bit of rain

0:02:03 > 0:02:05to the Isles of Scilly, Southern counties in England,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08the Channel Islands - but it's still not set in stone

0:02:08 > 0:02:10just how far north this is going to get.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12So, just keep it in mind,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14but keep checking the forecast here.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16Elsewhere, on Saturday, plenty of dry weather.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18The wind easing a little bit through the day.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20The wind is much lighter by the time we get to Sunday,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23but this flow of air over the North Sea

0:02:23 > 0:02:25is still, along this North Sea coast,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28holding back - and will be again on Monday,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30leaving the west and south-west of the UK

0:02:30 > 0:02:32with the higher temperatures

0:02:32 > 0:02:35and barely a breath of wind for some here,

0:02:35 > 0:02:36and some lovely sunshine.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39And this weather pattern looks to continue

0:02:39 > 0:02:40well into next week.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42So, we keep those contrasts between North Sea coast

0:02:42 > 0:02:45and then the sunshine and to the west and south-west,

0:02:45 > 0:02:46the higher temperatures,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48where it will be rather warm.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Now, there are signs there may be a change, finally,

0:02:51 > 0:02:52later next week,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54because the high pressure

0:02:54 > 0:02:55moves away, low pressure edges in.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57If it settles to the south-west of us,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00it'll be a mild flow, but increasingly unsettled

0:03:00 > 0:03:03with, finally, some of us seeing some rain.

0:03:03 > 0:03:04Low-pressure, though,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06could settle to the north-west of the UK,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09bringing a cooler flow into us here

0:03:09 > 0:03:10and, again, unsettled,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13with some outbreaks of rain showers around.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14So, hints of a breakdown -

0:03:14 > 0:03:16the timing very uncertain.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18Maybe beyond the end of next week,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20and just how that happens,

0:03:20 > 0:03:21where the air is coming from,

0:03:21 > 0:03:22a lot to play for.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Until then, as you were.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Warm and sunny, cold or grey.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28Take your pick. Bye-bye.
