0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. For several weeks the weather talk was

0:00:04 > 0:00:06all about high pressure, keeping it dry if you're lucky,

0:00:06 > 0:00:07some sunshine, and some warmth.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11In fact if you go back a week to last Monday

0:00:11 > 0:00:12this is how it looked in Northern Ireland.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16Plenty of blue sky. Temperature reaching 20 Celsius.

0:00:16 > 0:00:17Fast forward seven days, and this

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Monday was a completely different affair.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Yes, it brightened up at the end of the day but it was cloudy and

0:00:23 > 0:00:26wet for a large part of it and in fact Murlough in County Down

0:00:26 > 0:00:28received 29 millimetres of rain.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Some spots receiving more rain in May

0:00:30 > 0:00:32so far than in the whole of April.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34They are soaking in Threave in Dumfries and Galloway,

0:00:34 > 0:00:37there's Murlough for you, and Capel Curig, a very wet Monday.

0:00:37 > 0:00:39Not so much rain in south-east England.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43That could well change at the end of Wednesday as we'll see in a moment.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46And high pressure is no longer on the scene.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48It is across a large part of continental Europe.

0:00:48 > 0:00:49Not for us though.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52We are under the influence of low pressure. That means weather

0:00:52 > 0:00:54fronts and more rain to come for many us during Tuesday.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57It will be a dry start for much of Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:00:57 > 0:01:00but some outbreaks of rain from west to east during the day.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02The sunshine coming out again afterwards.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04This weather system for Northern England, Wales,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06the south-west, edges into the Midlands,

0:01:06 > 0:01:07moving very slowly, grinding

0:01:07 > 0:01:10to a halt, leaving much of East Anglia and south-east England dry.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13The warmest weather here with some sunny breaks, very muggy too,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16but by the end of the day it'll feel fresher in Scotland and

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Northern Ireland once the sun appears behind the rain.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22But under clear skies here on Tuesday night it will be

0:01:22 > 0:01:23a chillier night.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26On Wednesday, sunshine, scattered showers, but for England and

0:01:26 > 0:01:29Wales, look how this weather system comes back to life,

0:01:29 > 0:01:32an expanding area of quite heavy rain pushing its way

0:01:32 > 0:01:35northwards and then sweeping through East Anglia and south-east

0:01:35 > 0:01:38England on Wednesday evening with the potential for some heavy,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40thundery rain that could be disruptive.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43So it's certainly a weather system to keep an eye on.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47Now going into Thursday that does pull away but it is still low

0:01:47 > 0:01:48pressure in control.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52We've changed the wind direction now. The wind is lighter, but it's

0:01:52 > 0:01:54coming not from this mild, muggy south-westerly

0:01:54 > 0:01:56but more of west-north-westerly going into Thursday.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59That's pulling this cooler, fresher air across the UK.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01So things start to feel a little bit different.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03But as I mentioned it is still low pressure.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05That means although you may start

0:02:05 > 0:02:08dry and sunny on Thursday, clouds build

0:02:08 > 0:02:10and there will be showers breaking out and some of those

0:02:10 > 0:02:12could be heavy.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14It's a similar picture on Friday.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16It could be quite a chilly start on Friday.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17And then we get the clouds building.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Then the showers could be more widespread on Friday.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23Heavy, possibly thundery, hail, slow moving,

0:02:23 > 0:02:24with very light winds.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27This showery weather pattern continues into the weekend

0:02:27 > 0:02:30because you can see low pressure is still very much in control of

0:02:30 > 0:02:34things going from Friday into Saturday.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36Fairly light winds around, catch a shower,

0:02:36 > 0:02:37could hang around for a while.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40On Saturday there is the potential for some showers merging to

0:02:40 > 0:02:43give some longer spells of rain in places.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Notice how the temperatures have come down so it's a cooler,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49fresher feel to things but still quite pleasant in the sunshine

0:02:49 > 0:02:50in between the showers.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54As we look a bit further ahead going into next week there is

0:02:54 > 0:02:55a battle going on.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58If you watched the last Weather for the Week Ahead the indication was

0:02:58 > 0:03:01that high-pressure would move in next week and settle things down

0:03:01 > 0:03:04but it looks like low pressure is very reluctant to give up the game

0:03:04 > 0:03:06and it is going to hang around,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08so this pattern of sunshine and showers could

0:03:08 > 0:03:10continue for much of next week.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13So the best thinking at the moment is that at least the first

0:03:13 > 0:03:14half of the week will be showery,

0:03:14 > 0:03:18then high pressure will start to build in from the Atlantic,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20drying things little bit, settling things a little bit

0:03:20 > 0:03:22by the end of the week but there is still

0:03:22 > 0:03:25a lot to play for in terms of timing.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Until then more rain in the forecast.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Let's face it, it's been a while.
