0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello, sometimes when high pressure is in charge of our weather,

0:00:04 > 0:00:07I have to be honest with you, there is not a lot to talk about.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09Right now, it's hard to fit it all in.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11On Monday, we talked about the rain,

0:00:11 > 0:00:14for Tuesday it was the warmth for some, from

0:00:14 > 0:00:17East Anglia, south-east England, and into north-east Scotland,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20and in fact it was the UK's warmest day of the year so far,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23with 26 Celsius at Gravesend in Kent.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26But that 22 at Lossiemouth in Moray,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28was Scotland's highest temperature of the year so far.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30So, some warmth and some sunshine.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32Clearly, not everybody had that, though,

0:00:32 > 0:00:35here is some cloud that did produce some outbreaks of rain.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37There's a lot to talk about because we have swapped high pressure

0:00:37 > 0:00:39for low pressure, here it is to the west of us.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Now, you think, hold on,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43low pressure and yet there has been some warmth around.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Surely that would come with high pressure at the height of summer?

0:00:46 > 0:00:49Well, as ever with the UK's weather, low pressure or high pressure,

0:00:49 > 0:00:53it is about where the air is coming from around these pressure systems.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56And what we have at the moment, around low pressure in the Atlantic,

0:00:56 > 0:00:59is warm air being drawn back from a long way south of the UK and

0:00:59 > 0:01:01lifting those temperatures where the sun makes an appearance,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03boosting the humidity too.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06But as we go through the week, low pressure still to the west

0:01:06 > 0:01:09of us changes position slightly and we start to filter in this

0:01:09 > 0:01:12cooler air, not from the south but from the north-west.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15So, it will feel much fresher, not cold by any stretch of

0:01:15 > 0:01:18the imagination, but it will feel quite different out there.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21And before we get to that, there's something else to talk about

0:01:21 > 0:01:24during Wednesday, and that is all this rain covering

0:01:24 > 0:01:28a large swathe of England and Wales, leading to for some a very wet day.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30For Scotland, and for Northern Ireland,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33some pleasant sunny spells and scattered showers.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36It will feel quite warm in the sunshine, cool in the rain,

0:01:36 > 0:01:39and still very warm and humid, with that air from the south,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41into East Anglia and south-east England.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44But here the rain will get in late in the day and there's a chance

0:01:44 > 0:01:47of seeing some torrential thunder bursts before it clears away.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Now, there will be some in southern, central and eastern England

0:01:50 > 0:01:53that will end up with around 20 to 40mm of rain.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56After it's been so dry, very useful for gardeners,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59not so good for travelling through, but it's gone for Thursday,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02sunshine and scattered showers across the board,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04and remember that very warm and humid air, well, that's

0:02:04 > 0:02:07now cleared out of the way, it's feeling cooler and fresher,

0:02:07 > 0:02:10but still pleasant when the sun makes an appearance, cooler when the

0:02:10 > 0:02:13showers move through, but catch one and it could be heavy and thundery.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Now, if anything, on Friday,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18low pressure is certainly in control, you can see the

0:02:18 > 0:02:21swirl of wind around it, just to the west of the UK.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22But with low pressure in control,

0:02:22 > 0:02:25those showers become more widespread on Friday,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28and look like featuring on our weather all the way through the

0:02:28 > 0:02:30weekend into the start of next week as well.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31So a quick look at Saturday,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34it's difficult at this stage to pinpoint exactly where the

0:02:34 > 0:02:37heavy showers will be, where the most frequent showers will be,

0:02:37 > 0:02:41but just cater for sunshine and showers Saturday and Sunday

0:02:41 > 0:02:43and also, although it's cooler and fresher by day,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45the nights have turned cooler too.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48And some spots may end up close to freezing

0:02:48 > 0:02:50in any prolonged clear spells overnight.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53It is much less humid, now that warm air is out of the way.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56Now into the start of next week, low pressure, as we've seen,

0:02:56 > 0:02:59is around but it looks like it may just exit the scene for

0:02:59 > 0:03:02a time, allowing high pressure to build in, but it looks like

0:03:02 > 0:03:06that will just be briefly, because the best advice at the moment is

0:03:06 > 0:03:09that low pressure will come back and turn things unsettled once more.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12So, it's a bit up and down next week,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15a showery start, possibly dry and more settled for a time,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18but not for long, before low pressure comes back on the scene.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21And of course, it will be low pressure coming back on

0:03:21 > 0:03:23the scene, and that means,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26at least for me, there will be lots to talk about.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28And that's your latest Weather For The Week Ahead.
