0:00:02 > 0:00:04There's a bank holiday weekend on the horizon

0:00:04 > 0:00:06and I'm sure of you are hoping, fingers crossed,

0:00:06 > 0:00:07that the weather isn't quite

0:00:07 > 0:00:09like what we've seen during the past week.

0:00:09 > 0:00:10Nature's done its bit to readdress

0:00:10 > 0:00:12the rainfall deficit so far this spring.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14The likes of Northolt and Skegness last week

0:00:14 > 0:00:16saw well over a month's worth of rain

0:00:16 > 0:00:18fall in the space of seven days.

0:00:18 > 0:00:19Not quite as much in Edinburgh,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21but this was still six times more

0:00:21 > 0:00:23than you saw through the whole of the month of April

0:00:23 > 0:00:25so there's a bit of welcome news,

0:00:25 > 0:00:27I suppose, to those eyeing up the bank holiday weekend

0:00:27 > 0:00:29that much of this week will be not only a good deal drier,

0:00:29 > 0:00:32but increasingly warm compared with the week just gone.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34We start the week with high pressure

0:00:34 > 0:00:36to the east of us, low pressure to the west

0:00:36 > 0:00:37so that's bringing some of the warmth

0:00:37 > 0:00:38on southerly winds,

0:00:38 > 0:00:40but this weather front out towards Ireland

0:00:40 > 0:00:42causing a complication to a certain extent

0:00:42 > 0:00:44with a bit of rain around to start Monday,

0:00:44 > 0:00:46spreading into western parts of Scotland.

0:00:46 > 0:00:47A few heavier bursts, but not as wet

0:00:47 > 0:00:49as it was for some of you on Sunday.

0:00:49 > 0:00:50Much of the country dry,

0:00:50 > 0:00:51better sunshine in the morning.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Sunshine turns hazy

0:00:53 > 0:00:54for some into the afternoon,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56but temperatures start to build.

0:00:56 > 0:00:57OK, still in the low teens

0:00:57 > 0:00:59across the northern half of the country.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02Much of England and Wales, though, widely into the 20s,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04maybe even the mid 20s in the south-east corner.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06That leaves us with a fine end to the day

0:01:06 > 0:01:07for the southern half of the UK.

0:01:07 > 0:01:08There will be some rain, though,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10pushing from west to east

0:01:10 > 0:01:12as we go into Monday evening across Scotland,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14but that clears out into the North Sea to Tuesday

0:01:14 > 0:01:16and from Tuesday,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18we start to see high pressure build to the south.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20The air's coming off the Atlantic.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22It won't be quite as warm

0:01:22 > 0:01:23as the air we saw on Monday.

0:01:23 > 0:01:24With it, lots of low cloud

0:01:24 > 0:01:26around some western coasts and hills.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28There could be the odd spot of light rain or drizzle,

0:01:28 > 0:01:29but predominantly dry,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31best of the sunshine in the east

0:01:31 > 0:01:33and even though temperatures are down on Monday,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35it will still feel warm in that ever-strengthening sun.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37The high pressure builds further

0:01:37 > 0:01:38from the south into Wednesday.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Still a bit of a flow off the Atlantic

0:01:40 > 0:01:42so varying amounts of cloud around across the UK.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Cloudiest is probably western Scotland,

0:01:44 > 0:01:45Northern Ireland,

0:01:45 > 0:01:46threat of some spots of rain or drizzle.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Lot of dry weather round, morning cloud breaks up,

0:01:49 > 0:01:50good sunny spells,

0:01:50 > 0:01:51temperatures back on the rise -

0:01:51 > 0:01:53even more of you seeing temperatures

0:01:53 > 0:01:54into the 20s by this stage.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57And as that high pressure sits in place into Thursday,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59the air just warms up in situ.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01We will see morning mist and fog

0:02:01 > 0:02:03once more to start the day here and there,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05but predominantly a dry day.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Very little rain around on Thursday

0:02:07 > 0:02:09and some long sunny spells.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Temperatures above where they should be

0:02:11 > 0:02:12for the time of year for all,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14back into the mid 20s across some southern parts

0:02:14 > 0:02:17and as high pressure then becomes established

0:02:17 > 0:02:18like it did to the start of the week,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20to the east of the UK for Friday,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22we've got more of a south to south-easterly flow,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24bringing up even warmer air from the near continent

0:02:24 > 0:02:26to see us out from the week.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Now, Friday does look to promise

0:02:28 > 0:02:30quite a lot of dry and sunny weather,

0:02:30 > 0:02:32keeping weather fronts off towards the west.

0:02:32 > 0:02:33Warmest conditions south-east

0:02:33 > 0:02:36and maybe parts of north-west England, north Wales -

0:02:36 > 0:02:38could hit 26 or 27 Celsius.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Notch that up a degree or so as we go into Saturday

0:02:40 > 0:02:42with lots of dry, sunny weather.

0:02:42 > 0:02:43Maybe a bit of a cool breeze

0:02:43 > 0:02:45for some across the east of Scotland,

0:02:45 > 0:02:46north-east England,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49but 27, 28 certainly possible by this time.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51So we go into the bank holiday weekend

0:02:51 > 0:02:52with a lot of warmth around. Will it last?

0:02:52 > 0:02:54This is how we start the weekend.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56High pressure just to the east of us,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58dragging up those south-easterly winds.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00We have to watch this low pressure system

0:03:00 > 0:03:01down to the south-west.

0:03:01 > 0:03:02This has the potential for some showers,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04maybe the odd thunderstorm for a time,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06as it looks like it will push its way northwards

0:03:06 > 0:03:08before we see high pressure

0:03:08 > 0:03:10build back in again from the west.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12The biggest problem is how quickly

0:03:12 > 0:03:14that whole process takes place

0:03:14 > 0:03:15so day to day detail,

0:03:15 > 0:03:16very uncertain at the moment.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18What we will say, we'll all see a bit of heat,

0:03:18 > 0:03:19a bit of sunshine as well,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21but there will be that slightly cooler spell

0:03:21 > 0:03:23with a chance of showers, not everywhere,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25at some point through the weekend

0:03:25 > 0:03:27before things turn drier for next week, too.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Bye for now.
