0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. It is the last day of meteorological spring,

0:00:04 > 0:00:06and we haven't got all the statistics in yet

0:00:06 > 0:00:09from the Met Office, but the provisional statistics

0:00:09 > 0:00:11suggest that spring was a good deal drier than average.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14The white colours indicate average amounts of rainfall,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16but as you can see most of the map is brown,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18indicating less than the average amount of rain.

0:00:18 > 0:00:19Nothing exceptional -

0:00:19 > 0:00:24most places have seen 75% to 90% of their normal amount of rainfall.

0:00:24 > 0:00:25And there is some rain on the way

0:00:25 > 0:00:28for the first day of meteorological summer

0:00:28 > 0:00:31thanks to this area of low pressure to the north-west of the UK

0:00:31 > 0:00:33throwing these weather fronts at us.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35It's going to be a very slow-moving weather feature and it will

0:00:35 > 0:00:37start off in Northern Ireland,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39bringing some rain and a bit of a breeze as well.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41That will slowly creep its way across

0:00:41 > 0:00:42into the western side of Scotland.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Ahead of that, it's a bit of a grey start in some parts of

0:00:44 > 0:00:47England and Wales, particularly in the south, but that will burn away

0:00:47 > 0:00:50and we'll see a good deal of sunshine coming through.

0:00:50 > 0:00:51And it's going to be quite a warm afternoon,

0:00:51 > 0:00:5425, 26 degrees in the south-eastern corner,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57the low 20s quite widely, but something a little bit fresher

0:00:57 > 0:00:59is coming in behind our weather front,

0:00:59 > 0:01:01which as I say is a fairly slow-moving feature.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03It will slowly work its way across Scotland,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06then we start to see these little ripples on this weather front

0:01:06 > 0:01:08and that's just going to slow its progress,

0:01:08 > 0:01:11but eventually it will make its way towards the south-eastern corner.

0:01:11 > 0:01:12But as we head towards Friday,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14still got some warm air across the southern half of the UK.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16In fact, it's going to be a very warm day,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19but all the while it's turning a little bit fresher

0:01:19 > 0:01:20from the north and west.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22So, there is our weather front draped across some parts of

0:01:22 > 0:01:24northern England, Wales and the south-west.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26Some of that rain could be quite heavy

0:01:26 > 0:01:27but ahead of that it will turn very warm indeed,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29could get 27 degrees,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31and that might spark off one or two thunderstorms.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Then, as we head on into the weekend,

0:01:33 > 0:01:34it will be a mixture of sunny spells

0:01:34 > 0:01:37and a good scattering of showers as well.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40But as those westerly winds start to get in across the UK,

0:01:40 > 0:01:44it will drop those temperatures and bring a fresher feel to most places.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47So, through Friday evening, still a chance of some thunderstorms,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49then our weather front pushes all of that

0:01:49 > 0:01:51across towards the near continent.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Then we're into those westerly winds,

0:01:53 > 0:01:54so it's a fresher day on Saturday.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57Still into low 20s in the south-eastern corner,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59but most places will be in the upper teens -

0:01:59 > 0:02:0116 or 17 will be a bit more typical.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03And then Saturday night into Sunday,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05still got these westerly winds coming in from the Atlantic,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08areas of low pressure not too far away from the UK.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11It will be a breezy day on Sunday, nothing too untoward in terms

0:02:11 > 0:02:13of the strength of the wind but a noticeable breeze,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16and there will be a fair bit of cloud around and some showers.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17Most of the showers will be in the west,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19a little bit drier for the east.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21And again, most places will be in the upper teens,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24a few might just get into the low 20s.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26As we head into the early part of the coming week,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29we've still got low-pressure in charge of our weather

0:02:29 > 0:02:31and further areas of low pressure

0:02:31 > 0:02:33lurking out in the Atlantic heading our way.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35So it looks fairly unsettled and Monday I think

0:02:35 > 0:02:37will be a fairly breezy day.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41We'll see some showers coming in from the west on that breeze

0:02:41 > 0:02:44and again, temperatures will be in the middle to upper teens -

0:02:44 > 0:02:4717 or 18 will be the peak temperatures on Monday.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50And then into the early parts of the week, yes, through Tuesday

0:02:50 > 0:02:53we start to see this next area of low pressure coming our way.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56That's going to bring some wind and some rain with it.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57So an unsettled look to things,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00but high pressure is still lingering across the near continent,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02so that will just about exert its influence

0:03:02 > 0:03:04across the south-eastern corner

0:03:04 > 0:03:06as you head towards the latter part of next week.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08But all the while, low-pressure systems will be pushing their way

0:03:08 > 0:03:11across the north and west of the UK. Those low-pressure systems

0:03:11 > 0:03:13are driven along by the jet stream,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16which is arching its way to the north of the UK.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18So, later next week it's a north-west, south-east split.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20Cooler, wetter conditions in the north-west,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22gales will be possible here.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25In the south-east it will be drier and it will be warmer,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27but that warmth may well spark off some thunderstorms.

0:03:27 > 0:03:28Bye for now.
