0:00:02 > 0:00:05Well, as forecast, we were a little battered and bruised

0:00:05 > 0:00:06by the weather on Tuesday -

0:00:06 > 0:00:08a pretty unseasonable area of low pressure

0:00:08 > 0:00:10barrelling across the UK,

0:00:10 > 0:00:13giving us some very heavy rain, lashings of rain,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15and some very strong winds, as well.

0:00:15 > 0:00:16Here's a closer look.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18This is the weather front, here,

0:00:18 > 0:00:19so, lots of heavy rain,

0:00:19 > 0:00:20torrential, at times,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22and then, just within that weather front,

0:00:22 > 0:00:23and to the south,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25that's where we have those gale force winds -

0:00:25 > 0:00:28and very strong for the time of the year -

0:00:28 > 0:00:29in fact, some gusts of wind

0:00:29 > 0:00:30brought a few trees down,

0:00:30 > 0:00:32there were lots of branches, there.

0:00:32 > 0:00:33Gusts, you can see, 50 to 60mph -

0:00:33 > 0:00:36and you don't necessarily get the same effect

0:00:36 > 0:00:38during the winter, because the trees...

0:00:38 > 0:00:40in full leaf, well, they act like kites,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43like sails, and then you get, bang, that gust of wind,

0:00:43 > 0:00:44and the trees come down -

0:00:44 > 0:00:45and, of course, the rain,

0:00:45 > 0:00:47and it's been very heavy

0:00:47 > 0:00:49across northern England and Scotland,

0:00:49 > 0:00:50but a totally different story

0:00:50 > 0:00:52on Wednesday in the morning

0:00:52 > 0:00:53across the south of the country.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56Much lighter winds, some sunshine,

0:00:56 > 0:00:58so, a sigh of relief -

0:00:58 > 0:00:59a much better start to the day, for sure.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01In Northern Ireland, as well,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03western parts of Scotland, too,

0:01:03 > 0:01:05but in the east, here, it's going to take time

0:01:05 > 0:01:07for the remnants of that nasty low pressure to clear away.

0:01:07 > 0:01:08It's a real slow-mover.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10It's still out there in the North Sea,

0:01:10 > 0:01:12and it will take time

0:01:12 > 0:01:14for that rain and wind to completely subside

0:01:14 > 0:01:17from some of these north-eastern areas of the UK.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19You can see a window of fine weather

0:01:19 > 0:01:21developing across the UK on Wednesday,

0:01:21 > 0:01:22so, there will be some sunshine,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24and, probably, watching this,

0:01:24 > 0:01:25this is the next area of low pressure

0:01:25 > 0:01:27behind me, there,

0:01:27 > 0:01:28and by the time we get to the afternoon,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31it looks like more rain will be sweeping into the south-west,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33West Wales and then eventually into Northern Ireland -

0:01:33 > 0:01:35but I think, overall, not a bad day for most of us.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37Then, Wednesday evening,

0:01:37 > 0:01:39that's when that cloud and rain

0:01:39 > 0:01:40will sweep across the UK -

0:01:40 > 0:01:42or, rather than sweeping,

0:01:42 > 0:01:44it will be moving slowly once again.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46So, here's Thursday's weather map.

0:01:46 > 0:01:47Another area of low pressure,

0:01:47 > 0:01:50nowhere near as bad as the one we've just had,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52but it is still a low pressure,

0:01:52 > 0:01:53so, a lot of cloud,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55and some rain linked to it.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Now, it does look as though the heaviest of the rain

0:01:57 > 0:02:00on Thursday will be moving into south-western parts,

0:02:00 > 0:02:02Wales, probably across northern England,

0:02:02 > 0:02:03it could be quite wet here,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05around the Lake District,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07but it looks as though Scotland, the north, here,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09will be cooler and brighter.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11To the south, more cloud,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13and around 19 degrees Celsius.

0:02:13 > 0:02:14Then, on Friday,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16that messy weather is out of the way.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18You can see it's in the east, here.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Again, another window of better weather -

0:02:21 > 0:02:22and then another weather front

0:02:22 > 0:02:23is heading our way,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25so, you're getting a sort of theme

0:02:25 > 0:02:28of low pressures coming in going.

0:02:28 > 0:02:29This is Saturday and Sunday,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31and I to just want to paint a picture

0:02:31 > 0:02:33of just this one area of low pressure,

0:02:33 > 0:02:34very close to the UK,

0:02:34 > 0:02:36weather fronts linked to it, as well,

0:02:36 > 0:02:37so, that basically means

0:02:37 > 0:02:40that the weekend's going to be a little on the unsettled side -

0:02:40 > 0:02:41it's certainly not going to be a write-off.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43We are going to get some sunshine, for sure,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45but we just have to be prepared

0:02:45 > 0:02:46for a bit of rain on both days,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48both on Saturday and Sunday.

0:02:48 > 0:02:49Then, early next week,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51that low-pressure that will have affected us

0:02:51 > 0:02:52during the course of the weekend,

0:02:52 > 0:02:53still close by.

0:02:53 > 0:02:54Here's the jet stream.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56We're sort of right within it,

0:02:56 > 0:02:59so, still remnants of the unsettled weather

0:02:59 > 0:03:00early next week,

0:03:00 > 0:03:03and then, middle of next week,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06that jet stream sort of slows down,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08eases, high pressure starts to develop -

0:03:08 > 0:03:10we can say goodbye to the low, there,

0:03:10 > 0:03:11it's out in Scandinavia -

0:03:11 > 0:03:13but more importantly, the high-pressure builds,

0:03:13 > 0:03:15so it does mean that the weather

0:03:15 > 0:03:16is going to be settling down.

0:03:16 > 0:03:20So, next week, as that high-pressure builds,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22lighter winds, more sunshine,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24and starting to turn just that little bit warmer.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26So, I think the future's looking pretty good.
