0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello there. Some of us saw some sunshine
0:00:03 > 0:00:05for the second part of the weekend.
0:00:05 > 0:00:07Others saw thicker cloud and some rain.
0:00:07 > 0:00:09We'll take a look at this satellite sequence from Sunday,
0:00:09 > 0:00:12and it shows this curl of cloud in the north west of the UK.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14That's the centre of an area of low pressure,
0:00:14 > 0:00:16and the closer you were to that, the thicker the cloud was,
0:00:16 > 0:00:18the showers became quite frequent and there was
0:00:18 > 0:00:20a spell of quite wet weather for a time, and this picture
0:00:20 > 0:00:24was taken by one of our weather watchers in the Scottish Highlands.
0:00:24 > 0:00:27Some rain, but a completely different look to things
0:00:27 > 0:00:28in the Channel Islands.
0:00:28 > 0:00:31Lovely afternoon with plenty of sunshine.
0:00:31 > 0:00:34We do have that area of low pressure drifting its way over
0:00:34 > 0:00:37eastwards off towards Scandinavia during Monday.
0:00:37 > 0:00:39It leaves behind a fair old squeeze on those isobars,
0:00:39 > 0:00:42so it will be a blustery day, but notice the pressure is rising,
0:00:42 > 0:00:45so apart from a few showers mainly in the north west,
0:00:45 > 0:00:47there's going to be a lot of dry weather through the day on Monday.
0:00:47 > 0:00:49Maybe one or two early showers across England and Wales
0:00:49 > 0:00:51but they tend to fade away into the afternoon.
0:00:51 > 0:00:53There'll be some good spells of sunshine.
0:00:53 > 0:00:56Eastern Scotland doing very well and I think we'll see some good breaks
0:00:56 > 0:00:57in that cloud east of the Pennines,
0:00:57 > 0:01:00and many southern counties actually doing quite well as well.
0:01:00 > 0:01:02Top temperatures, 19 degrees in Aberdeen, similar in Norwich,
0:01:02 > 0:01:0620 degrees in London, closer to 17 with a bit more cloud further west.
0:01:06 > 0:01:09Maybe only 14 or 15 in Glasgow with the cloud and showers
0:01:09 > 0:01:11coming and going. Through the evening,
0:01:11 > 0:01:14Western Scotland is the focal point for further showers and then
0:01:14 > 0:01:16we see some wetter weather coming into Northern Ireland,
0:01:16 > 0:01:19Western Scotland through the small hours of Tuesday morning and maybe
0:01:19 > 0:01:21a few dribs and drabs of rain in the north west of England, North Wales.
0:01:21 > 0:01:23And by dawn on Tuesday,
0:01:23 > 0:01:26temperatures in that range of 10-13 degrees once again,
0:01:26 > 0:01:27so not particularly cold,
0:01:27 > 0:01:30although rural spots will be a few degrees lower than that.
0:01:30 > 0:01:32Now, Tuesday, northern England, northwards there'll be
0:01:32 > 0:01:34a fair bit of cloud and some rain coming and going.
0:01:34 > 0:01:38I suspect it may well brighten up later on in the north of Scotland.
0:01:38 > 0:01:40For England and Wales, I think we're going to have
0:01:40 > 0:01:42a pretty decent day with variable cloud, some sunshine,
0:01:42 > 0:01:45light winds, too, and it will feel quite warm.
0:01:45 > 0:01:49We'll see temperatures up to 19 in Cardiff, 22, 23 in London,
0:01:49 > 0:01:53closer to 17 or 18 in Glasgow and in Belfast.
0:01:53 > 0:01:55Then on into the middle of the week and high pressure really is
0:01:55 > 0:01:57the dominant force for much of the UK,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59but notice these weather systems bringing
0:01:59 > 0:02:03a bit of breeze and some rain into the north west of the UK,
0:02:03 > 0:02:06so it will be breezy, cloudy with some rain in Western Scotland
0:02:06 > 0:02:08in particular, but that rain is moving ever northwards.
0:02:08 > 0:02:09We've got this southerly breeze,
0:02:09 > 0:02:12it'll be dry and bright for much of England and Wales, and warm, too.
0:02:12 > 0:02:15Low 20s quite widely, could get into the upper 20s
0:02:15 > 0:02:18in the south-eastern corner, so very warm, actually,
0:02:18 > 0:02:20for some of us through the middle of the week,
0:02:20 > 0:02:23but we are beginning to see some changes on Thursday as this
0:02:23 > 0:02:25weather front comes in from the west.
0:02:25 > 0:02:27It's a cold front and it will bring some rain with it,
0:02:27 > 0:02:30but behind it, slightly fresher air,
0:02:30 > 0:02:32so we see those temperatures just dropping back by a notch or two.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34But as that cold front works its way inland,
0:02:34 > 0:02:36the rain becomes very light and patchy.
0:02:36 > 0:02:40Notice, though, just potential for a few potentially thundery showers
0:02:40 > 0:02:42clipping the south-eastern corner.
0:02:42 > 0:02:4523 degrees in London by this stage, back down
0:02:45 > 0:02:48to 16, 17 in Glasgow and in Belfast, and then by the end of the week,
0:02:48 > 0:02:51we take a look at the jet stream because that's what tends to
0:02:51 > 0:02:53drive the low pressure systems towards us.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55Where you get these little undulations you're likely
0:02:55 > 0:02:58to see a little area of low pressure developing and that'll get
0:02:58 > 0:03:01dragged our way by the jet stream, but equally, high pressure is likely
0:03:01 > 0:03:05to move its way in from the south as we get on into next weekend.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08And that's going to bring that wind in from the south, so again,
0:03:08 > 0:03:09we're going to see things warming up,
0:03:09 > 0:03:12but low pressure to the north of the UK is likely to bring
0:03:12 > 0:03:16some rain at times, mainly to the north and west of the UK.
0:03:16 > 0:03:18There'll be a bit of a breeze to go with that, but elsewhere,
0:03:18 > 0:03:19it's looking pretty promising.
0:03:19 > 0:03:21A lot of dry weather to be had,
0:03:21 > 0:03:23and we are also expecting to see those temperatures back on
0:03:23 > 0:03:26the rise once again, but the big question is,
0:03:26 > 0:03:29how long will that high pressure system stick around?
