0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello there. Weather for the week ahead is almost stuck in repeat.

0:00:05 > 0:00:08The weather that we saw for the beginning of the working week

0:00:08 > 0:00:10with cloudier conditions,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12with some showers up into the north-west

0:00:12 > 0:00:14but the sunnier conditions further south

0:00:14 > 0:00:16will almost be the same kind of theme

0:00:16 > 0:00:18as we move towards the end of the week,

0:00:18 > 0:00:20with some subtle variations.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Or by Wednesday, perhaps, not that subtle

0:00:23 > 0:00:25as things could get pretty hot indeed.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27But high pressure across England and Wales

0:00:27 > 0:00:28in the driving seat

0:00:28 > 0:00:30and that's just allowing these frontal systems

0:00:30 > 0:00:33to deflect to the north of that high

0:00:33 > 0:00:35and bring a little more in the way of unsettled weather.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37It could potentially, during Tuesday,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39bring some heavy rain for a time

0:00:39 > 0:00:40across the far north-west of Scotland.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42As it drifts its way steadily eastwards,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44it'll become fragmented and showery.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Sunny spells and scattered showers for Scotland,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48Northern Ireland and northern England.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50A little more cloud develops

0:00:50 > 0:00:52after a sunny start but it'll be warm in the south,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54with highs of 23 Celsius.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57Now, as we move out of Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59the high pressure just drifts a little further over

0:00:59 > 0:01:02to the near continent and allows this area of low pressure

0:01:02 > 0:01:05to start to squeeze in from the Atlantic

0:01:05 > 0:01:08and where the two meet together could turn pretty interesting.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12We could potentially drag up some very warm air from the Azores,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14right across the country,

0:01:14 > 0:01:15but particularly warm

0:01:15 > 0:01:18or even hot in that south-eastern corner.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21So there'll hardly be a cloud in the sky on Wednesday

0:01:21 > 0:01:23across England and Wales,

0:01:23 > 0:01:24perhaps the best day of the working week

0:01:24 > 0:01:27if you like the sunshine and the heat.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Further north and west, again, on the breezy side,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31with showery outbreaks of rain here.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34But highs, potentially, of 26 or 27

0:01:34 > 0:01:36not out of the question.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38And even some of that warmer air. despite the showers,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40drifting into Scotland,

0:01:40 > 0:01:42with high teens not out of the question too.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44As we move out of Wednesday,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46we could see a few thundery showers

0:01:46 > 0:01:48ahead of that frontal system pushing in

0:01:48 > 0:01:51but it will drive in some slightly fresher conditions

0:01:51 > 0:01:54during the course of Wednesday into Thursday.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56It's a slow-moving, weak affair,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58not that much in the way of showery rain

0:01:58 > 0:02:00and temperatures are not going to going to dip that much

0:02:00 > 0:02:03but we'll see mid-20s in the south-east,

0:02:03 > 0:02:06perhaps high teens further west.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Now, as we move out of Thursday into Friday,

0:02:08 > 0:02:11we've still got high pressure dominating the story

0:02:11 > 0:02:14across the south, keeping things relatively quiet

0:02:14 > 0:02:17and, again, still these weather fronts toppling over the top.

0:02:17 > 0:02:19So, again, further spells of wet weather,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22bit more of a breeze on Friday into the far north-west,

0:02:22 > 0:02:25with the heaviest of the rain to the north-west of the Great Glen.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27Best of the sunshine in the south-east,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30although a little more cloud generally across England and Wales.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32So, what's been happening?

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Well, the jet stream at the moment is set with

0:02:34 > 0:02:37a defined kink to the west in the Atlantic

0:02:37 > 0:02:40and that's deflecting these areas of low pressure

0:02:40 > 0:02:42across the north of the UK.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45By the weekend, we might see that jet stream evening out a little.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48There is a level of uncertainty as to just

0:02:48 > 0:02:50where it's going to be sitting

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and that will dictate the dry weather to the south

0:02:52 > 0:02:54and the more unsettled weather to the north.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57But not for long because the jet stream reverts back

0:02:57 > 0:02:59to that kink out in the west

0:02:59 > 0:03:03and allows the high pressure to sit across the UK

0:03:03 > 0:03:07and once again drive in some pretty warm or hot air

0:03:07 > 0:03:09across the near continent.

0:03:09 > 0:03:10Low pressure never too far away, though,

0:03:10 > 0:03:11Low pressure never too far away, though,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14so there is going to be a bit more of an uncertainty

0:03:14 > 0:03:14as we get to the longer six to ten day period.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16as we get to the longer six to ten day period.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18But it does look as though we keep the rain at times

0:03:18 > 0:03:20in the north, it'll be dry and warm elsewhere,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24but the question mark is just for how long?

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Of course, we'll firm up on the details on that

0:03:26 > 0:03:28over the next few days. Enjoy.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34Peter Kay's back.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37The BAFTA award-winning comedian returns,

0:03:37 > 0:03:38with a celebration of

0:03:38 > 0:03:40some of his finest and funniest moments.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43LAUGHTER

0:03:43 > 0:03:45If you like laughing -

0:03:45 > 0:03:47then you'll love Peter Kay's Comedy Shuffle.
