0:00:03 > 0:00:04The weather over the next week or so

0:00:04 > 0:00:06fits the billing of early summer conditions,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08particularly as far as temperatures are concerned.

0:00:08 > 0:00:10They're going to be either at,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12or if not, a little bit above average for the time of year.

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Leeds a good place to look at, centre of the country.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17Notice how the temperatures change for the rest of this week.

0:00:17 > 0:00:18Warmest on Wednesday,

0:00:18 > 0:00:21a little brief dip into something fresher for the end of the working

0:00:21 > 0:00:24week before those temperatures rise again by the weekend.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27The warmth that comes on Wednesday is because we've got a big deep area

0:00:27 > 0:00:30of low pressure out in the Atlantic, and that's starting to drag up

0:00:30 > 0:00:33as it gets closer, warm air towards our shores.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36A general southerly air flow on Wednesday, a bit breezy across the

0:00:36 > 0:00:37Highlands and Islands of Scotland,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39a few spots of rain or drizzle here.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Vast majority dry, but as temperatures lift,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43isolated showers, Wales, the Midlands,

0:00:43 > 0:00:45eastern Scotland, but most will avoid them.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47Sunny spells, clearest skies to the south and east.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51We could hit 26 or 27 in the south-east corner,

0:00:51 > 0:00:52even eastern parts of Scotland achieving

0:00:52 > 0:00:5520 or 21 Celsius.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58We're not going to get to the levels they're experiencing

0:00:58 > 0:00:59across other parts of Western Europe.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01These are some of the temperatures

0:01:01 > 0:01:03we'll see on Wednesday afternoon.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05That warmth is trying to push towards us,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07but what happens through Wednesday night,

0:01:07 > 0:01:08it gets shoved out of the way.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11This is the feature responsible - it's a cold front, a weakening one,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14but it does bring some rain and breezy conditions through the

0:01:14 > 0:01:16night and into Thursday for Northern Ireland,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19and by the time daylight arrives on Thursday morning, the west of

0:01:19 > 0:01:20Scotland and western Wales

0:01:20 > 0:01:22could be seeing a little bit of rain as well.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Overall the temperatures to take us into Thursday will be on

0:01:25 > 0:01:29the mild if not muggy side, with most in the mid, if not high, teens.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31We start with cloud and patchy rain in the west.

0:01:31 > 0:01:32That works its way eastwards.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35Warming up quite quickly across East Anglia and the south-east,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37but it will feel fresher here

0:01:37 > 0:01:39later in the day after a cloudier spell.

0:01:39 > 0:01:40That Atlantic air wins through,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43a bit blustery for many into the afternoon,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45and we'll see showers affect parts of Scotland and Northern

0:01:45 > 0:01:47Ireland, and maybe later parts of north-west England.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51But out there in the sunshine, it's still strong sunshine, it'll

0:01:51 > 0:01:54still feel pleasant even if it is cooler than it was on Wednesday.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56We continue with that run of air

0:01:56 > 0:01:58coming in off the Atlantic as we go into Friday.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00High pressure to the south, low pressure to the north,

0:02:00 > 0:02:04weather fronts in between, and that does mean a bit more cloud on

0:02:04 > 0:02:07Friday, particularly across western areas, patchy rain and drizzle.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10A blustery day, best of the brighter breaks to the south and east,

0:02:10 > 0:02:13where, like Thursday, temperatures could get into the low 20s.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15And then into the weekend - well,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18we see a more substantial area of low pressure sweep by

0:02:18 > 0:02:20the far north of Scotland, so it could be windy for a time,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23Friday night into Saturday morning,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25more substantial rain in the far north, but other than that,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27a bit more cloud in the west,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29a few spots of rain or drizzle by the end of the day,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32but for the south and east things starting to warm up once again,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34with more in the way of sunny weather around.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37The change for Sunday, it's really mostly in the wind speed.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39It eases down a bit.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42We'll still see some rain or drizzle across north-western parts of

0:02:42 > 0:02:45the UK, with more sunshine to the south and east.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Temperatures by this stage in the high 20s.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50So this is the set of the jetstream for the weekend, it's roughly

0:02:50 > 0:02:53across us, that gives us that bit of a north-west, south-east split.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56But it looks like into next week it buckles to the north once again,

0:02:56 > 0:02:57helping high pressure to build.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00The position of that high pressure could be crucial.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03If it nudges further eastwards we could start to drag in warmer

0:03:03 > 0:03:04air off the continent once again.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08And whilst it is only a very low probability at this stage, there

0:03:08 > 0:03:11are a few computer models signalling some spots could get

0:03:11 > 0:03:13over 30 degrees next week.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14It's only a low probability,

0:03:14 > 0:03:17it does look there will be a lot of dry weather for a time,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19but later next week the Atlantic air is set to win through.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22The question of when that goes through and fresher air

0:03:22 > 0:03:26returns is still one we need to tackle, because the computer models

0:03:26 > 0:03:28differing at the timing of that at the moment.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30And we'll keep you updated over the coming days.
