0:00:02 > 0:00:03The mercury has been rising,

0:00:03 > 0:00:05temperatures have been climbing

0:00:05 > 0:00:06and the hot weather's that's developed

0:00:06 > 0:00:09across many parts of the country will have staying power.

0:00:09 > 0:00:10It's going to be a struggle

0:00:10 > 0:00:12to bring those temperatures down

0:00:12 > 0:00:13over the next few days.

0:00:13 > 0:00:14That was the view a little earlier on

0:00:14 > 0:00:16from one of our Weather Watchers

0:00:16 > 0:00:17in central London.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19If you wanted relief from the heat,

0:00:19 > 0:00:21the coast was the place to head -

0:00:21 > 0:00:22sea breezes which have been bringing

0:00:22 > 0:00:24the temperatures down a little bit

0:00:24 > 0:00:26along the immediate coastal strip.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Different weather across northern Scotland on Saturday.

0:00:28 > 0:00:29Here, there was more cloud.

0:00:29 > 0:00:31You can see it here on the satellite picture.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33A very slow-moving weather front

0:00:33 > 0:00:35even brought some rain into the far north-west.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38During Sunday, well, spot the difference.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40The weather front is still sitting in place.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43This front isn't moving anywhere quickly.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45What that means is Sunday will bring

0:00:45 > 0:00:47yet more cloud with some patchy rain

0:00:47 > 0:00:49across the north-west of Scotland.

0:00:49 > 0:00:50Some of that cloud into Northern Ireland,

0:00:50 > 0:00:52eastern and southern Scotland,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54but across the bulk of England and Wales,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57it is another hot and sunny day.

0:00:57 > 0:00:58Temperatures easily climbing

0:00:58 > 0:01:00into the mid- to high 20s in many areas,

0:01:00 > 0:01:03always that bit cooler closer to the coast, you'll notice.

0:01:03 > 0:01:0524 degrees in Brighton,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07but inland, spots across the south-east

0:01:07 > 0:01:09could well get up to 31,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11maybe 32 degrees Celsius.

0:01:11 > 0:01:12The hot sunshine extends

0:01:12 > 0:01:13across much of northern England.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15The north coast of Northern Ireland

0:01:15 > 0:01:16seeing more cloud,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18that extending into southern and eastern Scotland

0:01:18 > 0:01:20and this band of rain progressing

0:01:20 > 0:01:22ever so slowly southwards

0:01:22 > 0:01:24across the western side of Scotland.

0:01:24 > 0:01:25Here's the cloud, here's the rain -

0:01:25 > 0:01:28our weather front really not moving anywhere much

0:01:28 > 0:01:30through Sunday night and on into Monday.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32Another very, very warm and muggy night

0:01:32 > 0:01:33to come further south,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35particularly there in the centre of London,

0:01:35 > 0:01:37maybe no lower than 20 degrees.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Monday - more of the same,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41more hot sunshine

0:01:41 > 0:01:42across England and Wales.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44This hot weather could just spark off

0:01:44 > 0:01:46the odd isolated thunderstorm,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48the vast majority staying dry.

0:01:48 > 0:01:5131 degrees, our band of cloud and patchy rain

0:01:51 > 0:01:52still not making much progress

0:01:52 > 0:01:55southwards across Scotland.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Now, to the north of that weather front,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59that band of cloud and patchy rain,

0:01:59 > 0:02:01there is some fresher air

0:02:01 > 0:02:02and with the flow of winds

0:02:02 > 0:02:04around this area of high pressure,

0:02:04 > 0:02:07we're going to try to bring some of that fresher air

0:02:07 > 0:02:09further south on Tuesday,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11but it will be something of a struggle.

0:02:11 > 0:02:12All we're really going to do

0:02:12 > 0:02:13is push the hottest conditions

0:02:13 > 0:02:15a little bit further west.

0:02:15 > 0:02:16Parts of south-west England, Wales

0:02:16 > 0:02:18won't be too far away from 30 degrees.

0:02:18 > 0:02:19That could give the odd shower

0:02:19 > 0:02:21or thunderstorm here and there.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Tuesday night into Wednesday,

0:02:23 > 0:02:24high pressure still with us.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26An easterly wind and then a southerly wind

0:02:26 > 0:02:28across the western side of the British Isles

0:02:28 > 0:02:30and that's going to take the heat

0:02:30 > 0:02:32and try to move it northwards again

0:02:32 > 0:02:33so parts of western Scotland

0:02:33 > 0:02:34at this stage getting into

0:02:34 > 0:02:35some pretty warm weather.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Notice, though, that slightly fresher feel

0:02:37 > 0:02:39in eastern areas.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41Now, through Wednesday night into Thursday,

0:02:41 > 0:02:42you start to see a bit of a change,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44a frontal system moving in

0:02:44 > 0:02:45and this is a warm front.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47It's likely to bring some outbreaks of rain,

0:02:47 > 0:02:49the rain possibly heavy and thundery.

0:02:49 > 0:02:50What it will also do, though,

0:02:50 > 0:02:51for some of us is bring a return

0:02:51 > 0:02:53of some very warm air.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55It could get to 30 again in the south-east,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57always that bit cooler and fresher

0:02:57 > 0:02:58up towards the north-west.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01And then as we head through the end of the week,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03I don't expect the weather chart

0:03:03 > 0:03:04will look quite like this,

0:03:04 > 0:03:05but it does look likely

0:03:05 > 0:03:08that we're going to see an area of low pressure

0:03:08 > 0:03:10becoming quite slow moving

0:03:10 > 0:03:12across northern areas of the British Isles

0:03:12 > 0:03:13and what that will do

0:03:13 > 0:03:15is bring us more of a westerly wind

0:03:15 > 0:03:17from the Atlantic, bringing some fresher air

0:03:17 > 0:03:19across just about all parts of the country.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21That will bring us cooler days,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23some fresher and perhaps more comfortable nights

0:03:23 > 0:03:25with a mixture of sunshine and showers

0:03:25 > 0:03:27so eventually we should budge the heat

0:03:27 > 0:03:30and temperatures should start to drop.
