0:00:02 > 0:00:05Another hot day in the city and for some of us, for sure,
0:00:05 > 0:00:06a little too hot.
0:00:06 > 0:00:09Temperatures got up to 33 degrees.
0:00:09 > 0:00:12Again, the hottest day of the year, so far, on Monday.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14Just west of London - 33 degrees,
0:00:14 > 0:00:16and this temperature was higher
0:00:16 > 0:00:19than the forecast temperatures
0:00:19 > 0:00:21for all of these fabulous places.
0:00:21 > 0:00:26In fact, we're beating Acapulco, we are beating Singapore.
0:00:26 > 0:00:28The other side of the Atlantic there in Miami,
0:00:28 > 0:00:31it is not even 30 degrees Celsius.
0:00:31 > 0:00:34So the set-up for the rest of the week, at least across
0:00:34 > 0:00:37southern areas of the UK, is that heat wafting in from the south.
0:00:37 > 0:00:40The jet stream is closer to Northern Ireland and Scotland
0:00:40 > 0:00:42so here we have the fresher,
0:00:42 > 0:00:44slightly more unsettled weather
0:00:44 > 0:00:46and that cooler air will be
0:00:46 > 0:00:50reaching southern areas but not until a lot later on in the week.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52I want to show you the temperatures around midnight into Tuesday.
0:00:52 > 0:00:54Look at these values - 23, 24 degrees
0:00:54 > 0:00:58across some southern and central parts of the UK.
0:00:58 > 0:01:01This is midnight, sun down.
0:01:01 > 0:01:04We normally get that during the daytime and these are
0:01:04 > 0:01:07the already night-time temperatures.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10So it just shows how unusually hot the air is over us.
0:01:10 > 0:01:12Of course, a lot more pleasant
0:01:12 > 0:01:14across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
0:01:14 > 0:01:17One thing that is going to be happening through the course
0:01:17 > 0:01:18of Monday night into Tuesday,
0:01:18 > 0:01:21a very weak cool front will be moving across the UK,
0:01:21 > 0:01:22moving southwards,
0:01:22 > 0:01:25and that means that the slightly fresher air here
0:01:25 > 0:01:27in the north will be sinking southwards too,
0:01:27 > 0:01:29so pushing the heat a little bit further south.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32We're talking about 30 for Cardiff and London,
0:01:32 > 0:01:33not far off 30 for Plymouth,
0:01:33 > 0:01:36whereas these coastal areas in the North Sea,
0:01:36 > 0:01:39and also further north, will be a lot fresher.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42Wednesday, we start to see weather fronts moving in, encroaching,
0:01:42 > 0:01:45so that means some outbreaks of rain possibly even some
0:01:45 > 0:01:48thunderstorms around anywhere from Northern Ireland into
0:01:48 > 0:01:51northern England and Scotland as well. So a much fresher feel.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53Fairly humid, fairly muggy
0:01:53 > 0:01:55but those temperatures certainly
0:01:55 > 0:01:57nowhere near as high as those in the south.
0:01:57 > 0:02:01It could even be creeping up over 30 degrees again in the south.
0:02:01 > 0:02:05Wednesday is the start of Glastonbury, of course,
0:02:05 > 0:02:08but look how quickly those temperatures dip away from 29
0:02:08 > 0:02:11back into the high teens as we go through the course of the week.
0:02:11 > 0:02:13The reason why we are going to be seeing dipping temperatures
0:02:13 > 0:02:15is because eventually a cool front, you can see it here,
0:02:15 > 0:02:16moves across the UK.
0:02:16 > 0:02:20There is another one heading our way as well but this one, behind it,
0:02:20 > 0:02:22those temperatures dip away.
0:02:22 > 0:02:26You can see the teens, still some heat just about ahead of it there
0:02:26 > 0:02:30across the south-east and East Anglia on Thursday.
0:02:30 > 0:02:33Then Friday, that process continues
0:02:33 > 0:02:35so that fresher weather gets in at least for most of us.
0:02:35 > 0:02:38It'll be cloudier, there will be a little bit of rain around
0:02:38 > 0:02:42but again that extreme south-east may hold on to some of that warmth.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45The weekend - looks like low pressure will be very close by.
0:02:45 > 0:02:47It will be sending fresher air
0:02:47 > 0:02:49and essentially what is going to be happening
0:02:49 > 0:02:52is that fresher air will be cutting off the supply
0:02:52 > 0:02:55of that warmth wafting in from the south,
0:02:55 > 0:02:57drawn in by the high pressure.
0:02:57 > 0:03:00Next week, there is not an awful lot of change.
0:03:00 > 0:03:02It is all about the orientation.
0:03:02 > 0:03:05It looks like the low pressure still brings the fresher air in
0:03:05 > 0:03:08but that high pressure still is very close and you can see that
0:03:08 > 0:03:10warm air is very close to the south-east.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12So it just takes a little nudge of these two,
0:03:12 > 0:03:15a little shift, and that will make all the difference to how warm
0:03:15 > 0:03:18or how cool it is going to be in different parts of the country.
0:03:18 > 0:03:21But I think overall, next week, it will be fresher for most,
0:03:21 > 0:03:24there will be some rain around but probably
0:03:24 > 0:03:28staying on the warm side across southern areas.
0:03:28 > 0:03:29Stay cool.
