0:00:02 > 0:00:04Well, it really is getting a little too hot now.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06Certainly too hot for folks across the south

0:00:06 > 0:00:08of those soaring temperatures,

0:00:08 > 0:00:10and we're potentially at least on course

0:00:10 > 0:00:13for the hottest June day in 40 years,

0:00:13 > 0:00:17but recently temperatures have been up to 31 degrees.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Tuesday not quite so hot.

0:00:19 > 0:00:20The following day, much, much hotter,

0:00:20 > 0:00:24so that heat will peak on Wednesday.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26And also we're in for some thunderstorms.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29The thunderstorms will be affecting northern

0:00:29 > 0:00:32and western areas of the UK during the course

0:00:32 > 0:00:34of Wednesday and into Thursday.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36So in the short term, very little happening

0:00:36 > 0:00:39on the weather front. Still very, very warm

0:00:39 > 0:00:40across the South here.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Thunderstorms possibly getting into

0:00:42 > 0:00:45northern and north-western areas first thing in the morning.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48Temperatures around 8am already into the 20s

0:00:48 > 0:00:49for the southern counties,

0:00:49 > 0:00:52across central parts of England as well.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55At this stage, they really are shooting up like a rocket.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57To the north of that, a lot fresher.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59You'll notice some blobs of blue here.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03These are potential showers, maybe some thunderstorms as well,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06across south-western parts of Scotland, further north too.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08A lot fresher, first thing in the morning,

0:01:08 > 0:01:09around 12 degrees in Inverness.

0:01:09 > 0:01:13Soaring temperatures and that extreme heat being pushed in

0:01:13 > 0:01:15resurges from the near continent.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17It will be a relatively small area that will get

0:01:17 > 0:01:19those fantastically high temperatures.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21To the north of that, we've got potentially

0:01:21 > 0:01:24some thunderstorms during the course of the day.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27Little bit further north and a little bit further south as well.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Very difficult to predict exactly where the storms will be.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Temperatures in the 20s, and then that 34,

0:01:32 > 0:01:35if that happens it will be the hottest day

0:01:35 > 0:01:38in 40 years in June.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40It's been hotter in other months.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42Glastonbury starts on Wednesday with 30 degrees

0:01:42 > 0:01:44and then there'll be a sharp decline

0:01:44 > 0:01:46in the temperatures, and the reason for that

0:01:46 > 0:01:48is because fresher air will start arriving.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51I just want to point out that Wednesday into Thursday

0:01:51 > 0:01:53there will be storms rumbling. It's very difficult again

0:01:53 > 0:01:55to say where there will be, but there is

0:01:55 > 0:01:57a good chance of them across this central swathe of the UK,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00but eventually that fresher air pushes through

0:02:00 > 0:02:02and look at those temperatures, back down to 26 in London,

0:02:02 > 0:02:05which is still pretty hot but we're mostly in the teens.

0:02:05 > 0:02:06Remember, it's going to take days,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09especially in the south, for those houses to cool off

0:02:09 > 0:02:13after storing all of that heat after such a prolonged spell

0:02:13 > 0:02:16of hot weather. So here's Friday's weather forecast,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18a cool front shimmies across the UK,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21so that means behind it fresher conditions coming in,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23and in fact even ahead of it.

0:02:23 > 0:02:27Temperatures only down to around 23 degrees in the south-east.

0:02:27 > 0:02:2915 there across Scotland, and there'll be

0:02:29 > 0:02:31some bits and pieces of rain around as well.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34And then the weekend, one weather front clears away

0:02:34 > 0:02:36and then we're in between weather systems,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39so probably some sunshine with some showers on Saturday,

0:02:39 > 0:02:40bit of a breeze, and then Sunday,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43maybe some rain getting into north-western areas,

0:02:43 > 0:02:47so a little bit more changeable during the course of the weekend.

0:02:47 > 0:02:51So I'm pleased to say it will be fresher for many of us,

0:02:51 > 0:02:54particularly across the south during the course of the weekend

0:02:54 > 0:02:57and there'll be a little bit of rain on and off as well

0:02:57 > 0:03:00here and there. Now into next week.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03Early next week, the high pressure and the hot air is to the south,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05low pressure's close by, so that's basically allowing

0:03:05 > 0:03:07for that fresher Atlantic air to come in.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09It'll be in the 20s, I think, at most,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12whereas that heat is way towards the south.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15Not a million miles away, but it's just further south,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18so we're not going to be getting that heat wave.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20So next week, fresher, some rain around,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22and at this stage, there's no signs of that heat

0:03:22 > 0:03:24returning at this stage.

0:03:24 > 0:03:25Things could change, but for now,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28I think it's mostly good news on the weather front.
