0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello there. Our weather has gone back

0:00:03 > 0:00:06to something you might call normal

0:00:06 > 0:00:08as we head towards the weekend, certainly compared

0:00:08 > 0:00:12with the exceptional weather we had earlier this week.

0:00:12 > 0:00:13Exceptional heat,

0:00:13 > 0:00:16where some spots got very close to 35 degrees Celsius.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19For the weekend, 20 will be more typical.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Some places will be even cooler than that

0:00:21 > 0:00:23and it's quite a mixed weather story, really.

0:00:23 > 0:00:27Some sunshine, some showers, it will be breezy and fairly cool,

0:00:27 > 0:00:29certainly compared with what we've had recently.

0:00:29 > 0:00:30Now, an area of low pressure

0:00:30 > 0:00:32is moving across the north

0:00:32 > 0:00:33of the British Isles at the moment.

0:00:33 > 0:00:34Actually quite a deep low.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36You can see tightly squeezed isobars

0:00:36 > 0:00:38and that's going to make for a windy Saturday

0:00:38 > 0:00:40across parts of Scotland.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Also a weather front dragging its heels

0:00:42 > 0:00:43across England and Wales

0:00:43 > 0:00:45so here through Saturday,

0:00:45 > 0:00:46fairly large areas of cloud.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48Some outbreaks of patchy rain at times,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50should brighten up a bit towards the south-east.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52For Northern Ireland and Scotland,

0:00:52 > 0:00:53we'll see some sunny spells,

0:00:53 > 0:00:54a few showers,

0:00:54 > 0:00:55but very windy across Scotland.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57We could see gales in places

0:00:57 > 0:00:59and it is going to be a cool day.

0:00:59 > 0:01:0114 to 18 degrees in the west,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03maybe 22 or 23 in the south-east.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Now, during Saturday night,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07the weather front that will have been

0:01:07 > 0:01:08plaguing the south with a lot of cloud,

0:01:08 > 0:01:09that will clear away

0:01:09 > 0:01:11and our area of low pressure to the north

0:01:11 > 0:01:12will slide its way eastwards

0:01:12 > 0:01:13so Sunday should bring

0:01:13 > 0:01:15slightly lighter winds across Scotland.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17Still quite blustery here.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19A mixture of sunshine and showers for most,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21although it will be fairly cloudy again

0:01:21 > 0:01:22across some southern areas

0:01:22 > 0:01:23and those temperatures,

0:01:23 > 0:01:24you'll be lucky to get to 20.

0:01:24 > 0:01:2616 in Glasgow,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29maybe 23 across parts of the south-east.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Now, some humid air may return for a brief time

0:01:32 > 0:01:34as we head into the start of next week.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36It's been pulled up from the south

0:01:36 > 0:01:37by this warm front

0:01:37 > 0:01:40ahead of an area of low pressure so for Monday,

0:01:40 > 0:01:41there's going to be a lot of dry weather

0:01:41 > 0:01:42around in many areas,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45but we're likely to see some outbreaks of rain

0:01:45 > 0:01:46pushing in from the west.

0:01:46 > 0:01:47There's a bit of uncertainty

0:01:47 > 0:01:50about exactly where the wettest of this weather will be.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Certainly a fresh feel up to the north-west,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54but something a bit more humid down to the south

0:01:54 > 0:01:56and during Monday night into Tuesday,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58there is a chance we could see

0:01:58 > 0:02:00some really heavy thundery downpours

0:02:00 > 0:02:02pushing up from the south,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04brought in by that humid air,

0:02:04 > 0:02:05but it won't be around for long

0:02:05 > 0:02:07because, as those heavy downpours

0:02:07 > 0:02:09clear away to the east on Tuesday,

0:02:09 > 0:02:10we'll start to bring fresher air

0:02:10 > 0:02:12back in from the Atlantic.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Now, that brief flirtation with some humid air

0:02:14 > 0:02:16comes because of this dip in the jet stream.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18We briefly get onto the southern

0:02:18 > 0:02:19and eastern side of the jet,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21where the humid air lurks.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24But as the jet stream breaks back through again

0:02:24 > 0:02:26and moves straight across the Atlantic

0:02:26 > 0:02:27through the middle part of the week,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29we'll be on the northern side of the jet.

0:02:29 > 0:02:30That's where the cool air sits

0:02:30 > 0:02:31and we will be in that cool air

0:02:31 > 0:02:32for the middle of the week.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35The jet stream also spinning up areas of low pressure,

0:02:35 > 0:02:36which will keep things

0:02:36 > 0:02:38quite unsettled through Wednesday

0:02:38 > 0:02:40and, indeed, on into Thursday.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42So for the middle part of the week, then,

0:02:42 > 0:02:43our jet stream will be working

0:02:43 > 0:02:45straight across the Atlantic,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47keeping us in the cool air

0:02:47 > 0:02:48and bringing us further areas

0:02:48 > 0:02:51of low pressure, but there is just a hint

0:02:51 > 0:02:53in some forecast weather models

0:02:53 > 0:02:55that by the end of the week,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57the jet stream might take on

0:02:57 > 0:02:58more of a bendy appearance

0:02:58 > 0:03:00and, yes, that will initially

0:03:00 > 0:03:01keep us in the cool air,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03but will bring some warmer air

0:03:03 > 0:03:05slightly closer to southern areas

0:03:05 > 0:03:08and with it, potentially a build in pressure,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10high pressure trying to edge its way in

0:03:10 > 0:03:12towards the south.

0:03:12 > 0:03:13It's going to be a slow old process, though.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Essentially for the start of July,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18it is going to remain quite cool.

0:03:18 > 0:03:19There'll be some rain at times,

0:03:19 > 0:03:21but some sunshine, too,

0:03:21 > 0:03:22but just hints that we might see

0:03:22 > 0:03:25something more settled and perhaps warmer

0:03:25 > 0:03:26a little bit deeper into the month.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28But for the time being,

0:03:28 > 0:03:29we're back to normal.
