0:00:02 > 0:00:04After a week in which we saw the UK record its highest
0:00:04 > 0:00:06June temperature in over 40 years,
0:00:06 > 0:00:10the week ahead...looks much more like a British summer.
0:00:10 > 0:00:13We'll see lots of cloud around at times, there will be spells of rain,
0:00:13 > 0:00:16some of which will be heavy, just about anywhere across the country.
0:00:16 > 0:00:19Still a bit of a breeze after what's been quite a breezy weekend
0:00:19 > 0:00:21so far and, yes, there will be cloud,
0:00:21 > 0:00:24but there will also be some sunnier moments, as I'll show you.
0:00:24 > 0:00:27Certainly for Sunday, cloudiest weather across England and Wales,
0:00:27 > 0:00:30occasional mainly light and patchy rain and drizzle working its way
0:00:30 > 0:00:32from west to east, the odd heavier burst during the afternoon.
0:00:32 > 0:00:34East Anglia and the south-east can't be ruled out.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37A few showers across Scotland continuing but really,
0:00:37 > 0:00:39Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England best of
0:00:39 > 0:00:42the Sunday sunshine but still the strongest of the breeze,
0:00:42 > 0:00:44particularly north-east Scotland and north-east England.
0:00:44 > 0:00:47Temperatures at if not just a nudge below where they should be
0:00:47 > 0:00:49for the time of year. Finish the day, then,
0:00:49 > 0:00:52but with some evening sunshine to look forward to across
0:00:52 > 0:00:54the southern half of the country after what will have been
0:00:54 > 0:00:55a predominantly cloudy day.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58That takes us into a largely dry night through to Monday.
0:00:58 > 0:01:00A bit fresher than we'll have seen through the weekend,
0:01:00 > 0:01:03temperatures away from the towns and cities dropping back into
0:01:03 > 0:01:05single figures, but by the end of the night,
0:01:05 > 0:01:06cloud spilling in from the west.
0:01:06 > 0:01:08This area of low pressure responsible.
0:01:08 > 0:01:12Notice, though, a thundery low developing across southern parts of
0:01:12 > 0:01:15France, northern Spain - that'll come close to us
0:01:15 > 0:01:16through this coming week.
0:01:16 > 0:01:17But certainly for Monday,
0:01:17 > 0:01:19ridge of high pressure across eastern areas,
0:01:19 > 0:01:21most start the day dry with some sunshine,
0:01:21 > 0:01:24clouding over from the west. Most will stay dry, though.
0:01:24 > 0:01:26It looks like patchy rain likely across western areas,
0:01:26 > 0:01:29heaviest of the rain - Northern Ireland by the end of the day.
0:01:29 > 0:01:31Because the winds are light on the weekend it might actually
0:01:31 > 0:01:33feel a touch warmer, particularly so to the south
0:01:33 > 0:01:35and the east of the country,
0:01:35 > 0:01:37where you'll see the sunniest of the conditions throughout.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40But that first step to something even wetter takes place
0:01:40 > 0:01:41through Monday night into Tuesday,
0:01:41 > 0:01:44this area of low pressure pushing its way eastwards.
0:01:44 > 0:01:46Humid air tries to get close to that south-east corner,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48so I couldn't rule out some thunderstorms here,
0:01:48 > 0:01:51but most will see that overnight rain or rain into the day across
0:01:51 > 0:01:54central and eastern parts, some of which will be on the heavy side.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57A bit brighter in the west later on but the breeze picks up and
0:01:57 > 0:02:00temperatures will be dropping back a little bit compared with Monday.
0:02:00 > 0:02:02And we're on the cooler side of that low-pressure system into
0:02:02 > 0:02:04Wednesday, though still that humid air very close
0:02:04 > 0:02:06to the south-east corner,
0:02:06 > 0:02:08and we could see again the potential for some thunderstorms here.
0:02:08 > 0:02:11It's only a low potential, but it's there nonetheless,
0:02:11 > 0:02:12and we could see some heavier rain
0:02:12 > 0:02:14pushing its way across eastern areas.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17Now, it all gets a bit complicated from mid-week onwards
0:02:17 > 0:02:19and so exact timing of rain bands open to a lot of question,
0:02:19 > 0:02:22but it's a general theme of low pressure in charge,
0:02:22 > 0:02:24looks like western areas will be that little bit brighter.
0:02:24 > 0:02:27Wednesday into Thursday, low pressure is still with us.
0:02:27 > 0:02:29You see some rain it looks like pushing to the north-east of
0:02:29 > 0:02:32Scotland and then becoming more confined to some southern parts
0:02:32 > 0:02:35of the country, particularly through the English Channel,
0:02:35 > 0:02:37but it does open the door to a cooler flow of air.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40Temperatures drop quite widely to at or below where it should be
0:02:40 > 0:02:42for the time of year. Most noticeable chill
0:02:42 > 0:02:44where the breeze is strongest in eastern parts.
0:02:44 > 0:02:46And with low pressure close by on Friday,
0:02:46 > 0:02:49showers can be expected, but next weekend, ridge of high pressure,
0:02:49 > 0:02:52band of rain, followed by another ridge of high pressure.
0:02:52 > 0:02:55So next weekend does look like we'll all see some further rain at times
0:02:55 > 0:02:58and it will be a little bit blustery,
0:02:58 > 0:03:00but there will be some sunshine.
0:03:00 > 0:03:02Now, the question comes, depending on where you are,
0:03:02 > 0:03:04whether you see that drier, sunnier slot either at the start of
0:03:04 > 0:03:07the weekend or at the end of the weekend.
0:03:07 > 0:03:09The end of the weekend, of course, the start of early July,
0:03:09 > 0:03:12takes it into the following week, and there is actually quite a bit of
0:03:12 > 0:03:16high confidence that the jet stream will start to strengthen once again.
0:03:16 > 0:03:19We will, however, be on the cooler side of the jet stream,
0:03:19 > 0:03:20meaning low pressure will start to push in
0:03:20 > 0:03:23it looks like to the north-west of the UK,
0:03:23 > 0:03:25so wet and windy weather most likely here.
0:03:25 > 0:03:27The further south and east you are,
0:03:27 > 0:03:29you could get away with a dry start to the month.
