0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello there. If you've ever been on holiday

0:00:03 > 0:00:05in the UK and been greeted by the locals saying,

0:00:05 > 0:00:07"Should have been here last week,"

0:00:07 > 0:00:09might well sum up the week ahead for some of you.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12It certainly won't rival the extreme heat we saw in which

0:00:12 > 0:00:16we saw the hottest conditions in 41 years - 35 degrees in London,

0:00:16 > 0:00:19temperatures peaked quite widely high 20s, low to mid 30s.

0:00:19 > 0:00:20The week ahead, though,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23those peaks are most likely in the high teens,

0:00:23 > 0:00:27maybe possibly low to mid 20s, so a good 10, 12 degrees cooler

0:00:27 > 0:00:29than we saw last week and to go with it,

0:00:29 > 0:00:31a lot more in the way of wetter weather around.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32Good one for the gardeners.

0:00:32 > 0:00:36Breezy at times and often cloudy and cool, so make the most of Monday

0:00:36 > 0:00:39cos Monday will be probably the driest day of the working week.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42High pressure is there to begin with and after a fresh start,

0:00:42 > 0:00:44things should warm up quite nicely.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46But you'll notice, waiting in the wings to the west of Ireland,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49an area of low pressure starting to nudge its way in.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51What that will do is, after a sunny start for Scotland, England

0:00:51 > 0:00:54and Wales, increase the amounts of cloud spreading in,

0:00:54 > 0:00:55sunshine turning hazy.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58A few isolated showers in Scotland, most will be dry.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00And temperatures will be boosted in that sunshine,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02strong sunshine overhead.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04Should feel like what really it should do this time of year -

0:01:04 > 0:01:06high teens, low to mid 20s.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08But you finish the day with rain into Northern Ireland and

0:01:08 > 0:01:10it could be a wet evening rush hour here,

0:01:10 > 0:01:12particularly Fermanagh, down in Omagh,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14and that rain, through the night and into Tuesday,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16spreads into central southern Scotland.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18Some lively bursts of rain on the southern uplands,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20southern portion of the Trossachs,

0:01:20 > 0:01:22rain into the far north of England and also western Wales,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25a few showers ahead of it. But this is the chart into Tuesday.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Low pressure really dominating the north and the west of the country,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31allowing slightly more humid air to push into the south and east.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33And with storms developing over France,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35we could see some wetter weather push in here later in the day.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37So, reasonably dry, reasonably bright

0:01:37 > 0:01:40to the south-east of the country before that heavy thundery rain

0:01:40 > 0:01:42moves in later to the north and the west,

0:01:42 > 0:01:44cloud, outbreaks of rain coming and going.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48Now, the chart for the week ahead then starts to get very messy,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51so the exact detail from one day to the next always open to question,

0:01:51 > 0:01:54but there's that general theme of low pressure with us.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56It does look at the moment like it will be

0:01:56 > 0:01:58a wet night to take us into Wednesday and quite windy and

0:01:58 > 0:02:01cool across eastern parts of northern England,

0:02:01 > 0:02:04eastern Scotland as the rain pushes its way northwards.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Far north of Scotland may stay dry, brighter weather in the south,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08but showers will break out

0:02:08 > 0:02:10as temperatures rise into the afternoon.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13Then that low pressure pushes that weather front to the west of

0:02:13 > 0:02:16the country, where it will sit with windy conditions on Thursday.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Some heavy bursts of rain, particularly across Scotland,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21the rain turns a bit lighter further south.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23England and Wales, we'll see some sunshine.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26The afternoon showers will then develop,

0:02:26 > 0:02:27some of them slow-moving, heavy and thundery.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29And it will be the same again as we go into Friday.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32The weather front to the west has a little less oomph to it,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34so the rain lighter and patchier.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37Cloudier, breezier conditions here, feeling quite cool as well.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41Some sunshine further central and eastern parts but like Thursday,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44we will see those showers develop and temperatures lower than

0:02:44 > 0:02:46they should be for the time of year.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48So, that takes us into the weekend,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50with a dominant north-westerly flow to begin with.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Showers, and then this ridge of high pressure starts to build

0:02:53 > 0:02:57its way in ahead of yet another low pressure system off in the Atlantic.

0:02:57 > 0:02:58What that means weather-wise,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01looks like next weekend the showers initially start to ease,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03it turns drier, sunnier for a time, but potentially,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06particularly to the north-west of the country, turning wetter again.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08And that goes in to the following week there,

0:03:08 > 0:03:09your first full week of July.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12It does look like the jet stream will be strong enough across

0:03:12 > 0:03:14the north Atlantic, us on the cooler side,

0:03:14 > 0:03:16but it may run out of a bit of oomph as it comes to the UK,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19so the low pressure may become stranded to the north-west of

0:03:19 > 0:03:21the country, and that means high pressure may build

0:03:21 > 0:03:22to the south and east.

0:03:22 > 0:03:26So always likely to see the driest and warmest weather,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29as you probably usually do, to the south and the east of the UK.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30Bye for now.
