0:00:03 > 0:00:07Hello there. Last week was all about the heat, the high temperatures.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09This week, at least so far, has been about the rain.

0:00:09 > 0:00:11And in 24 hours, some parts of the UK have had

0:00:11 > 0:00:16a month's worth of rain already, Middle Wallop for one in Hampshire.

0:00:16 > 0:00:20But at Santon Downham in Suffolk, 90 millimetres,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22getting on for four inches of rain.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24Not just wet here in the UK,

0:00:24 > 0:00:27but large parts of central and western Europe have seen some very

0:00:27 > 0:00:31stormy weather, a lot of rain and some flooding in places, as well.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32Now, we haven't had the thunderstorms,

0:00:32 > 0:00:35but we've still got the rain keeping going, actually,

0:00:35 > 0:00:38and this area of low pressure actually is pushing that

0:00:38 > 0:00:41wetter weather further north, so we're going to find

0:00:41 > 0:00:44a change in the weather for Scotland and eventually for Northern Ireland.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47The wetter weather setting in across a good part of mainland

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Scotland, pushing its way westwards across Northern Ireland.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Still some patchy, lighter rain for northern England, and to the

0:00:53 > 0:00:55south one or two showers around.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58Still a lot of cloud, but perhaps a hint of sunshine in the south-east,

0:00:58 > 0:01:01where temperatures should be a little bit higher on Thursday.

0:01:01 > 0:01:05But 13 or 14 under the wind and rain across the northern half of

0:01:05 > 0:01:07the UK is really quite poor.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09And into the evening, it doesn't really get any better.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Here, the rain continues overnight,

0:01:11 > 0:01:14but it does tend to become a little lighter, a little more patchy,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16I think, across northern and western parts of the UK.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Signs of some clearer skies, perhaps some breaks in the cloud,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22coming into the south-east of England, where temperatures

0:01:22 > 0:01:24no lower than 14 or 15 degrees overnight.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27Some sunshine, here, perhaps, on Friday. That'll be a welcome change.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29But we've still got that cold wind

0:01:29 > 0:01:31and some rain for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Not as wet on Friday,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36that rain pushing further into England and Wales, but ahead of it

0:01:36 > 0:01:40some warmth in the south-east could trigger one or two heavy showers.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43It's a low pressure, though, that's been bringing the rain,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45and that is going to slip away from the UK, at least for a while,

0:01:45 > 0:01:49and this weather front will push that rain south-eastwards, towards

0:01:49 > 0:01:52the south-east of England, early on Saturday morning,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55so starting with a few spots of rain but soon brightening up.

0:01:55 > 0:01:56Some sunshine coming through,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58and for most of us Saturday is going to be a dry day.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01It'll feel a bit warmer in the sunshine, as well.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04There is going to be a weather front bringing some rain in from

0:02:04 > 0:02:06the north-west during the evening and overnight,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09but it doesn't really hang about, and many southern areas

0:02:09 > 0:02:12of the UK will probably miss the rain altogether.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15And again, brightening up across many areas on Sunday,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18some sunshine, just one or two showers

0:02:18 > 0:02:20mostly across Scotland and Northern Ireland, where it's going to

0:02:20 > 0:02:23be windy, those winds touching gale force, perhaps,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25around some coastal areas.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28But again, this sort of drier theme you can see on Monday,

0:02:28 > 0:02:32and a bit warmer, as well, highs of 23 degrees or so, but we will

0:02:32 > 0:02:36see some rain, I suspect, coming into Northern Ireland and Scotland.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39An area of low pressure bringing that wetter weather for the

0:02:39 > 0:02:42beginning of the week, but higher pressure towards the south, and

0:02:42 > 0:02:46that's going to be a theme, I think, during the course of next week,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48very different to what we've been seeing recently.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50This is the jet stream, of course,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52and it's been in this sort of position, very bowed and

0:02:52 > 0:02:56buckled, and the rain has been quite slow-moving and particularly heavy.

0:02:56 > 0:03:00The jet stream by early next week looks very different in terms

0:03:00 > 0:03:04of its orientation - a strengthening jet propagating across the Atlantic

0:03:04 > 0:03:07will move things on a little bit more quickly across the UK.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10We're always going to keep the colder air towards the far

0:03:10 > 0:03:13north, mainly up towards Iceland, actually. Warmer air, though,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16is trying to nudge in from the south into southern and

0:03:16 > 0:03:19eastern areas of the UK.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21So we end up with this sort of split, really, next week.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23More likely to get some rain in the north-west,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25much drier towards the south-east.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28I think many parts of the country next week should be a bit warmer,

0:03:28 > 0:03:31particularly in the sunshine. That's it from me. Goodbye.
