0:00:02 > 0:00:05It's already been a record-breaking wet June

0:00:05 > 0:00:07in the south-east of Scotland,

0:00:07 > 0:00:09but things can only really get better

0:00:09 > 0:00:11as we head towards July.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13This was Edinburgh on Thursday,

0:00:13 > 0:00:15where the temperature in the rain

0:00:15 > 0:00:17and the wind was only 12 degrees.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19By contrast, where we did see

0:00:19 > 0:00:20a little sunshine

0:00:20 > 0:00:22in the south-east corner of England,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24Sussex and Kent, temperatures 19,

0:00:24 > 0:00:26maybe even as high as 20 degrees

0:00:26 > 0:00:28and we should all get a bit warmer over the next few days

0:00:28 > 0:00:30and a bit drier, too.

0:00:30 > 0:00:31We've still got these swirls of cloud

0:00:31 > 0:00:34heading across much of Europe, actually.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35This is the heaviest cloud

0:00:35 > 0:00:37that's producing the wettest weather

0:00:37 > 0:00:39and some storms, too,

0:00:39 > 0:00:41nearer that deeper area of low pressure.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Our low pressure is tending to fill a little bit

0:00:43 > 0:00:45so the rain is becoming that bit lighter

0:00:45 > 0:00:47and that weather front will transfer that rain

0:00:47 > 0:00:49south-eastwards across the UK,

0:00:49 > 0:00:51having moved northwards over the last few days

0:00:51 > 0:00:52so it doesn't really know

0:00:52 > 0:00:53whether it's coming or going.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55We're left with a lot of cloud

0:00:55 > 0:00:56to begin with on Friday.

0:00:56 > 0:00:57There'll be some patchy rain

0:00:57 > 0:00:59and drizzle here and there.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01It's tending to drift towards England and Wales.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03Where we get some sunshine

0:01:03 > 0:01:04in the south-east and East Anglia,

0:01:04 > 0:01:05it should be warmer,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07there could be some heavy showers.

0:01:07 > 0:01:09It shouldn't be quite as cold for Scotland

0:01:09 > 0:01:11and Northern Ireland as it begins to dry out

0:01:11 > 0:01:13more and more through the afternoon

0:01:13 > 0:01:15and the winds won't be quite as strong, either.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17You can see through the evening and overnight,

0:01:17 > 0:01:18the wetter weather pushes its way further

0:01:18 > 0:01:19into England and Wales.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21We'll see some rain in East Anglia

0:01:21 > 0:01:22and the south-east this time

0:01:22 > 0:01:24and that will push its way towards the near continent,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26allowing some clearer skies

0:01:26 > 0:01:27to arrive in the north-west

0:01:27 > 0:01:29and temperatures will be a bit lower as well,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31down to nine or ten degrees here.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33The weekend looks quite promising,

0:01:33 > 0:01:34at least to begin with.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36We'll have early rain in the south-east,

0:01:36 > 0:01:38and then England and Wales through the day,

0:01:38 > 0:01:39probably dry, a bit warmer

0:01:39 > 0:01:41with some sunshine this time,

0:01:41 > 0:01:43whereas for Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:43 > 0:01:46after a fine start, we'll see this band of rain moving in

0:01:46 > 0:01:47on that weather front there.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49It's not particularly active, the rain,

0:01:49 > 0:01:50not particularly heavy,

0:01:50 > 0:01:51but it will transfer

0:01:51 > 0:01:53across the whole of the country overnight,

0:01:53 > 0:01:54again clearing away

0:01:54 > 0:01:56from the south-east corner very quickly

0:01:56 > 0:01:58and then a little bump of high pressure

0:01:58 > 0:02:00and it's because pressure's a bit higher this weekend

0:02:00 > 0:02:03that the prospects look better so a lot of dry weather,

0:02:03 > 0:02:04some sunshine,

0:02:04 > 0:02:05pleasantly warm in the sunshine,

0:02:05 > 0:02:07but a few blustery showers

0:02:07 > 0:02:09up towards the north-west of the UK.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11And we could see some patchy, showery rain

0:02:11 > 0:02:14coming in as we head into Monday as well.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16This area of low pressure throwing ahead

0:02:16 > 0:02:18some thicker cloud

0:02:18 > 0:02:20and a bit of rain and drizzle here and there,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22mainly over some of these western hills.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24Towards the south-east, it should be drier,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26brighter and a bit warmer.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Something a little cooler to the north

0:02:28 > 0:02:30of that rain in Scotland

0:02:30 > 0:02:31and we're still sort of stuck

0:02:31 > 0:02:34with this zone of patchy rain and drizzle

0:02:34 > 0:02:37across some of these central parts of the UK

0:02:37 > 0:02:40with temperatures mid-teens towards the north

0:02:40 > 0:02:41and into the low 20s in the south.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43That rain very light and patchy

0:02:43 > 0:02:45because it's moving

0:02:45 > 0:02:46into this area of high pressure,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49but it's a very flabby area of high pressure

0:02:49 > 0:02:52and we can't necessarily rely on it.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54As we head further into next week,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57we're going to find the jet stream strengthening,

0:02:57 > 0:02:58a stronger jet

0:02:58 > 0:02:59propagating across the Atlantic.

0:02:59 > 0:03:01Now, what does that mean?

0:03:01 > 0:03:03It means you tend to induce

0:03:03 > 0:03:04an area of higher pressure

0:03:04 > 0:03:05to the south of the jet

0:03:05 > 0:03:08and pick up areas of low pressure on the jet

0:03:08 > 0:03:09and they're likely to run

0:03:09 > 0:03:11towards the north-west of the UK

0:03:11 > 0:03:13with the higher pressure trying

0:03:13 > 0:03:14to build in to the south.

0:03:14 > 0:03:15Now, into next week,

0:03:15 > 0:03:16there will be some rain at times,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18but there's more movement to the weather

0:03:18 > 0:03:20so there'll be good spells of sunshine as well.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24The devil is going to be in the detail.

0:03:24 > 0:03:25There's a lot of uncertainty

0:03:25 > 0:03:27between different computer models

0:03:27 > 0:03:29as we run further ahead.
