0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hi there. This past week hasn't been the warmest of summer weeks,
0:00:04 > 0:00:06rather, we've had a lot of heavy rain,
0:00:06 > 0:00:09particularly for eastern areas of Scotland, record-breaking
0:00:09 > 0:00:12rain even, when we look at the whole of the month of June.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14Still, the weekend got off to a decent start
0:00:14 > 0:00:15with some sunny spells
0:00:15 > 0:00:16and we've got a bit more in the way
0:00:16 > 0:00:19of sunshine to come over the next 24 hours as well.
0:00:19 > 0:00:22The satellite picture shows weather systems
0:00:22 > 0:00:23waiting out in the Atlantic
0:00:23 > 0:00:25and a weak front will be pushing its way
0:00:25 > 0:00:27southwards as we go on through the early hours
0:00:27 > 0:00:29of Sunday across England and Wales
0:00:29 > 0:00:31and that could bring with it
0:00:31 > 0:00:33a few spots of rain to start the day
0:00:33 > 0:00:35across the south of the country.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38Otherwise, still brisk winds affecting Scotland
0:00:38 > 0:00:39where gale force winds are possible
0:00:39 > 0:00:40for the start of the day
0:00:40 > 0:00:42across the Northern Isles.
0:00:42 > 0:00:43Those winds will ease,
0:00:43 > 0:00:44but it'll still stay quite breezy
0:00:44 > 0:00:46across western Scotland,
0:00:46 > 0:00:47driving in plenty of showers,
0:00:47 > 0:00:48some of those could be heavy
0:00:48 > 0:00:49and thundery as well.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51Elsewhere, cloud will tend to break up
0:00:51 > 0:00:53and just like Saturday,
0:00:53 > 0:00:55we'll see some sunshine coming through
0:00:55 > 0:00:56with temperatures similar
0:00:56 > 0:00:58to those of Saturday as well,
0:00:58 > 0:01:00highs between 18 and 23 degrees for most.
0:01:00 > 0:01:01That's Sunday's weather.
0:01:01 > 0:01:03As we go through the night time,
0:01:03 > 0:01:05brisk winds will continue to drive the showers in
0:01:05 > 0:01:07across the north-west of the UK.
0:01:07 > 0:01:08Cloud tends to thicken, then,
0:01:08 > 0:01:10through the night across Wales
0:01:10 > 0:01:11and south-west England.
0:01:11 > 0:01:12Again, the cloud thick enough
0:01:12 > 0:01:13for some spots of rain,
0:01:13 > 0:01:15turning quite misty and grey here,
0:01:15 > 0:01:17some hill fog patches possible too.
0:01:17 > 0:01:18But it'll be a relatively mild night
0:01:18 > 0:01:19for England and Wales,
0:01:19 > 0:01:20some slightly cooler air
0:01:20 > 0:01:22across the far north of Scotland.
0:01:22 > 0:01:23This is how we start
0:01:23 > 0:01:24the new working week, then,
0:01:24 > 0:01:25and for most of us it's going to be
0:01:25 > 0:01:27quite a quiet weather day.
0:01:27 > 0:01:28Cloud coming and going,
0:01:28 > 0:01:29sunny spells around,
0:01:29 > 0:01:31temperatures near average for the time of year
0:01:31 > 0:01:33and a few showers towards the south-west.
0:01:33 > 0:01:34The weather will get a little bit
0:01:34 > 0:01:36more interesting, though,
0:01:36 > 0:01:37as we get on into Tuesday,
0:01:37 > 0:01:39because we've got this area of low pressure
0:01:39 > 0:01:41that's set to drive its way
0:01:41 > 0:01:42in across central areas of the UK,
0:01:42 > 0:01:44bringing some pretty wet weather.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47Now we could get around 20 to 30 millimetres of rain
0:01:47 > 0:01:48from this weather system
0:01:48 > 0:01:50as it drives across Northern Ireland,
0:01:50 > 0:01:52perhaps the north of Wales, the North Midlands,
0:01:52 > 0:01:54southern Scotland and northern England.
0:01:54 > 0:01:55That's where the rain's most likely to be.
0:01:55 > 0:01:56To the south of this,
0:01:56 > 0:01:58dry with some sunny spells in London
0:01:58 > 0:01:59and highs of 23,
0:01:59 > 0:02:02but looking out in the Atlantic
0:02:02 > 0:02:03and the jet stream,
0:02:03 > 0:02:06we get what's called a "trough disruption"
0:02:06 > 0:02:07happening just to the west of France,
0:02:07 > 0:02:09with one area of the jet stream
0:02:09 > 0:02:11bending down towards Spain and Iberia
0:02:11 > 0:02:14and another one moving well to the north
0:02:14 > 0:02:15of the UK around about Iceland.
0:02:15 > 0:02:17So that means for us
0:02:17 > 0:02:19we actually end up in a pretty slack zone
0:02:19 > 0:02:21of weather with very quiet winds.
0:02:21 > 0:02:23The weather will become quite slow-moving.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25The moisture left over from that weather front
0:02:25 > 0:02:26across northern England's still there
0:02:26 > 0:02:29on Wednesday, so it's here where we could see
0:02:29 > 0:02:30a few showers popping up
0:02:30 > 0:02:31as the heat builds during the day.
0:02:31 > 0:02:33It could become quite warm, actually,
0:02:33 > 0:02:34towards south-east England
0:02:34 > 0:02:36as the winds start to back
0:02:36 > 0:02:37and bring in some of that warmer air
0:02:37 > 0:02:38from the near continent.
0:02:38 > 0:02:41That trend, then, continues through Thursday
0:02:41 > 0:02:43with temperatures pushing on into the mid-20s,
0:02:43 > 0:02:45perhaps even the higher 20s for some.
0:02:45 > 0:02:46But we may well start to see
0:02:46 > 0:02:47some thunderstorms breaking
0:02:47 > 0:02:49out in northern France
0:02:49 > 0:02:51and they could drive northwards
0:02:51 > 0:02:53on into Friday across the UK.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55Now looking ahead to next weekend,
0:02:55 > 0:02:57it looks likely that the jet stream
0:02:57 > 0:02:59will begin to buckle and bend again,
0:02:59 > 0:03:01spreading in some Atlantic air
0:03:01 > 0:03:02across the UK, so temperatures
0:03:02 > 0:03:04will be coming down, but, that said,
0:03:04 > 0:03:05high pressure over France
0:03:05 > 0:03:07still could bring some relatively
0:03:07 > 0:03:10warm air towards the south-east of England.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12So next weekend, bit of a mixed bag, really.
0:03:12 > 0:03:14It looks like we could well see a spell of rain,
0:03:14 > 0:03:16but there will also be some sunny spells around.
0:03:16 > 0:03:19There's a bit of uncertainty about how quickly that cooler,
0:03:19 > 0:03:20fresher air gets in,
0:03:20 > 0:03:22but I think likely through next weekend
0:03:22 > 0:03:25the high temperatures across south-east England
0:03:25 > 0:03:27will just begin to ease down somewhat.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29That's your latest weather. Bye for now.
