0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello there. For those of you that live in eastern Scotland, I'm sure

0:00:04 > 0:00:07you're very pleased to see the back of June.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11June was not just a wet month - it was a record-breaking month.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13In Edinburgh, we had 181 millimetres of rain

0:00:13 > 0:00:15fall through the course of June.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19That was the wettest June on record here. Well, that was last month -

0:00:19 > 0:00:21what about the next week or so?

0:00:21 > 0:00:23We can all expect to see some sunny spells over the coming days,

0:00:23 > 0:00:26but there will be a spell of rain across central areas

0:00:26 > 0:00:27coming through on Tuesday.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Then for some of us, it will turn hot and humid later on in the week.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33The pressure chart, then, shows a weak front pushing southwards

0:00:33 > 0:00:36and eastward on Monday, but it's this area of low pressure that will

0:00:36 > 0:00:40bring more substantial rain to central areas of the UK for Tuesday.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43Here's how Monday starts off, then. An area of cloud.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45Some patchy outbreaks of rain pushing southwards

0:00:45 > 0:00:47and eastwards, but by the time we get to the afternoon,

0:00:47 > 0:00:50there'll just be a strip of cloud with one or two showers.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Some of those could be quite sharp but, at the same time,

0:00:52 > 0:00:55the cloud will break up a bit to allow some sunny spells through.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58Now, to the north of the front, across the Midlands,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00into Wales, northern counties of England, there will be plenty

0:01:00 > 0:01:04of sunshine, a brisk north-westerly breeze, but pleasant conditions.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Temperatures into the high teens to low 20s.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08And although there will be some sunshine for a time

0:01:08 > 0:01:11in Northern Ireland, it will cloud over late in the day.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14A much better day weather-wise in Scotland.

0:01:14 > 0:01:15A few showers, yes, in the north-west,

0:01:15 > 0:01:19but many areas stay dry with a lot more sunshine to go around.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21Now, as we head through Monday evening,

0:01:21 > 0:01:23we'll start to see that weather system I showed you

0:01:23 > 0:01:26arrive across Northern Ireland, bringing some wet weather here.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28And then that rain band will drive its way straight

0:01:28 > 0:01:30eastwards across southern Scotland,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32particularly northern England with that rain lasting a long

0:01:32 > 0:01:35time into Tuesday and, at times, we could see the rain skirting

0:01:35 > 0:01:39into the far north of Wales and the far North Midlands, as well.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41Either side of the rain band, some decent weather.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Quite warm towards south-east England with highs of 24 in London,

0:01:44 > 0:01:47but quite cool and fresh across northern Scotland.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51Now, towards the middle of the week, what happens with the jet stream -

0:01:51 > 0:01:54the fast winds six miles up in the earth's atmosphere -

0:01:54 > 0:01:55is the jet stream splits in two.

0:01:55 > 0:01:59We get one portion rotating around this cut-off low that will

0:01:59 > 0:02:02drag up some warm and humid air from the near continent,

0:02:02 > 0:02:04but the northern branch of the jet stream will continue to bring

0:02:04 > 0:02:06cooler conditions to the far north of Scotland.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09So, from midweek onwards, we're going to start to get some

0:02:09 > 0:02:11really big temperature contrasts building across the country.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13And although Wednesday will be a largely dry day,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16there could be one or two sharp showers developing through the day.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Warmer weather getting into southern counties of England -

0:02:19 > 0:02:20highs of 26 in London -

0:02:20 > 0:02:23but still relatively cool for the north of Scotland.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Now, that cut-off area of low pressure that

0:02:25 > 0:02:28I was talking about will form these thundery showers, then,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30through Wednesday night and into Thursday.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32Those thunderstorms will drive their way northwards,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34so we'll probably see some thundery rain breaking out

0:02:34 > 0:02:37across parts of England and Wales on Thursday.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39Apart from that, it's going to be a hot and humid day -

0:02:39 > 0:02:42temperatures in the hottest areas getting into the mid-to-high 20s.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44Wouldn't be surprised if we even hit the 30-degree mark -

0:02:44 > 0:02:47it could be that hot, given some decent sunshine.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50But then through Thursday evening, Thursday night and Friday,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52those thunderstorms will continue to track northwards,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55so we may well see them curling back round to affect eastern

0:02:55 > 0:02:57parts of Scotland into Friday.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00Generally, though, Friday will be a fresher kind of day

0:03:00 > 0:03:02as Atlantic air continues to move in,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05although it could still be pretty warm across East Anglia

0:03:05 > 0:03:06and south-east England, as well.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09Now, beyond that, through the weekend and into next week,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11it looks like we could see low pressure quite close to

0:03:11 > 0:03:15the north of the UK bringing breezy conditions and some showers.

0:03:15 > 0:03:16Temperatures near normal,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19but the Azores high could move into southern parts of the country

0:03:19 > 0:03:22and that could bring more settled conditions, lighter winds,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25more sunshine and potentially things getting a bit warmer.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27So temperatures, if you like, returning a bit closer to normal,

0:03:27 > 0:03:29but could become quite warm in the south.
