0:00:03 > 0:00:07Hello. There is some quintessential British summer weather coming

0:00:07 > 0:00:10up this week, briefly hot, thunderstorms and then cooler again.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12Now, the heat will boost temperatures close

0:00:12 > 0:00:17to 30 Celsius in the hot spots again over the next few days,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19and it's not just a south-east England heat wave.

0:00:19 > 0:00:23The heat will be building right across the UK along with the

0:00:23 > 0:00:26humidity, but then, by the end of Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28we'll see some thunderstorms breaking out.

0:00:28 > 0:00:29They'll be spreading north,

0:00:29 > 0:00:32but of course not everybody will catch them.

0:00:32 > 0:00:33And then, by the end of the week,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36it's the Atlantic weather taking over again, with sunshine

0:00:36 > 0:00:39and showers and temperatures back much closer to average

0:00:39 > 0:00:43for the time of year, and it'll be a windier story by then, as well.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Let's take you through this roller-coaster ride over this week

0:00:46 > 0:00:50before giving you an idea of what to expect next week by starting

0:00:50 > 0:00:51with the big picture for Monday.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54And this is why things are settling down and heating up,

0:00:54 > 0:00:56high pressure in control.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Don't be fooled by the cool start to Monday morning.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01Temperatures head up very quickly in the sunshine.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Maybe on the hazy side the further south you are,

0:01:04 > 0:01:06and for the Northern Isles there'll still be some cloud

0:01:06 > 0:01:09and outbreaks of rain becoming confined to Shetland.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11Temperatures, though, for much of the UK by Monday afternoon

0:01:11 > 0:01:14in the low to mid 20s.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16But as we go into Tuesday,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19although the hot weather is still with us, this weather disturbance

0:01:19 > 0:01:23could prove to be a thundery end to the day for some of us.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Notice how, though, around that we start to drag in the hotter

0:01:26 > 0:01:30air from the Continent, boosting temperatures and humidity.

0:01:30 > 0:01:34So plenty of very warm to hot sunshine again during Tuesday.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38Across southern parts, though, some cloud will begin to build.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41But even across western and northern parts of Scotland, temperatures will

0:01:41 > 0:01:45reach maybe around 27 Celsius and the hot spots again near 30

0:01:45 > 0:01:48Celsius, probably towards the south and south-east of the UK.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Some thundery showers developing towards the end of Tuesday

0:01:51 > 0:01:53pushing northwards into Wednesday,

0:01:53 > 0:01:56becoming an area of thundery rain affecting northern parts of the UK,

0:01:56 > 0:01:59and for the rest of England and Wales on Wednesday there

0:01:59 > 0:02:01will be quite widely showers and thunderstorms breaking out

0:02:01 > 0:02:03and still some heat and humidity,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05but especially now across East Anglia

0:02:05 > 0:02:08and south-east England again near 30 Celsius in the hot spots,

0:02:08 > 0:02:11whereas elsewhere it just turns a bit cooler.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13And as this weather front moves through as we start

0:02:13 > 0:02:17off Thursday, for many of us it'll be cooler and fresher,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19a little ridge of high pressure keeping a lot of fine

0:02:19 > 0:02:21weather during the first part of Thursday,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24heat and humidity gradually coming down in East Anglia

0:02:24 > 0:02:25and south-east England,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28but then low pressure coming in from the Atlantic,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31producing stronger winds, showers and some outbreaks of rain towards

0:02:31 > 0:02:33the north-west of the UK and pushing across all

0:02:33 > 0:02:37parts as we go from Thursday into Friday as this weather front moves

0:02:37 > 0:02:40its way southwards, so along that weather front again a spell of rain.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Maybe on Friday the far south-east staying dry,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44maybe parts of north-east Scotland,

0:02:44 > 0:02:47but you can clearly see it's now an Atlantic-driven weather

0:02:47 > 0:02:50pattern by Friday, and those temperatures are down much

0:02:50 > 0:02:53closer to average for the time of year, and the wind has picked up.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56The weather pattern going into next weekend and, in fact,

0:02:56 > 0:02:57the following week,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00we'll have high pressure always quite close to the south,

0:03:00 > 0:03:03low pressure near northern parts of the UK producing this

0:03:03 > 0:03:06Atlantic-driven wind flow where temperatures are close to average.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08And actually, it's quite windy,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10especially the further north you are.

0:03:10 > 0:03:11The weather you get depends on

0:03:11 > 0:03:13how close you are to these weather systems.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Across northern parts of the UK, Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18northern England, you're close to low pressure,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20there could be spells of rain, showers

0:03:20 > 0:03:22but, with some sunshine following on behind, quite windy.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Relatively dry and warm compared to that across southern

0:03:25 > 0:03:28parts of the UK, but we can't rule out some wet weather at times

0:03:28 > 0:03:30here, too, and temperatures just close to average.
