0:00:02 > 0:00:07Hello. The week ahead is a story of ups and downs weather-wise.

0:00:07 > 0:00:11The temperatures at the moment are certainly on the up.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13Monday brought a lot of sunshine.

0:00:13 > 0:00:14A beautiful day for the beach

0:00:14 > 0:00:15on the Moray coast

0:00:15 > 0:00:17in north-east Scotland

0:00:17 > 0:00:19and also there in Cornwall.

0:00:19 > 0:00:20Notice, though, a bit of high cloud

0:00:20 > 0:00:21gathering in the sky.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Just the first sign of some changes

0:00:23 > 0:00:26that are going to take place later in the week.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28As those temperatures continue to rise,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31the middle part of the week is likely to bring

0:00:31 > 0:00:34some quite vicious hit and miss thunderstorms.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35Once those clear away,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37the temperatures head downwards again.

0:00:37 > 0:00:41Some cooler, fresher conditions to take us towards the weekend.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43For the time being, though, high-pressure is in charge.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46As the high-pressure drifts a little bit further eastwards,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49it allows us to bring in this south-easterly airflow

0:00:49 > 0:00:53and that taps into some very, very warm air indeed

0:00:53 > 0:00:56across the near continent, some pretty humid air as well.

0:00:56 > 0:01:00So Tuesday will bring increasingly humid, muggy conditions

0:01:00 > 0:01:02and some more of that high cloud just

0:01:02 > 0:01:05streaming its way in across England and Wales.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Having said that, there will still be a fair amount of sunshine

0:01:07 > 0:01:10although some thunder storms late in the day towards the south-west.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13An easterly breeze off the North Sea making it feel a little bit

0:01:13 > 0:01:14chilly along the east coast,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16but inland and further west,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19temperatures up into the high 20s in places.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23And with that heat and humidity, we will start to see some

0:01:23 > 0:01:26thunderstorms spreading in from the south during Tuesday night.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29They will be quite hit and miss but if you catch a storm,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31it could give you a lot of rain in a short space of time.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Frequent lightning, maybe some hail.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36Some of those storms continuing across Scotland during Wednesday.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38As it brightens up across England and Wales,

0:01:38 > 0:01:40there could be enough heat

0:01:40 > 0:01:43and humidity to drive some further thunderstorms here and there.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45But, by this stage,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48something fresher beginning to show its hand out west.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Through Wednesday night, into Thursday,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52as this cold front sweeps its way eastwards,

0:01:52 > 0:01:56it will start to bring us fresher air from the Atlantic.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59So westerly winds across the country on Thursday.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02A bit of a humid start, perhaps, across the south-east.

0:02:02 > 0:02:03By the end of the day,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05those temperatures much lower for all of us.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09A lot of dry weather, but some showers up towards the north-west.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12As we head into Friday, it looks like an area of low pressure

0:02:12 > 0:02:14will drift in from the Atlantic.

0:02:14 > 0:02:15A band of rain with that.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18So a bit of uncertainty about the timing of this rain band,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21but there will be some spells of wet weather for many

0:02:21 > 0:02:23and even where the main band of rain has cleared away,

0:02:23 > 0:02:25there could be some further showers.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28But the temperatures are way down on where

0:02:28 > 0:02:30they have been - 15 to 21 degrees.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Low pressure still dominant as we move into the start of the weekend.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36The low likely to be across northern Scotland.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39There will be some spells of sunshine, also some showery rain.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42These westerly winds continuing to bring us the fresh conditions -

0:02:42 > 0:02:4516 to 22 degrees.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48The areas of low pressure will be brought

0:02:48 > 0:02:50to our shores by the jet stream -

0:02:50 > 0:02:52the winds way above our heads that drive the weather

0:02:52 > 0:02:54systems around the world.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56But notice as we go through the weekend,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58it looks like we could see a change in the shape of the jet stream.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02It is likely to bend its way northwards. What does that mean?

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Well, it means an area of high pressure that

0:03:05 > 0:03:06sits down across the Azores,

0:03:06 > 0:03:09may well be able to nudge its way a little

0:03:09 > 0:03:12bit further north and east and have a bit more influence on our weather.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16But there is some uncertainty into next week just how far north

0:03:16 > 0:03:19and east this area of high pressure will exert its influence.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20And in northern parts of the country,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23there'll be a fairly unsettled flavour.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25Spells of rain, quite breezy.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27But further south,

0:03:27 > 0:03:29it should become mainly dry, pleasantly warm,

0:03:29 > 0:03:32but not as warm as it is at the moment.
