0:00:03 > 0:00:06Hello there. Our weather is in the process of changing.

0:00:06 > 0:00:10Already that change has brought something quite dramatic in places.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13Some thunderstorms creeping up from the south.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Tuesday started off innocuously enough

0:00:15 > 0:00:17with blue skies for our Weather Watcher

0:00:17 > 0:00:18there in Falkirk,

0:00:18 > 0:00:20but look at the cloud that turned up in Plymouth.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23See the undulating pattern in this cloud structure?

0:00:23 > 0:00:28That shows you just how unstable the atmosphere became.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Those storm clouds eventually delivered

0:00:30 > 0:00:32some thunder, some lightning,

0:00:32 > 0:00:34and a lot of rain in places.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37During Wednesday, this little weather front here

0:00:37 > 0:00:39is going to continue to bring some thundery downpours

0:00:39 > 0:00:41northwards across the country.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42This cold front out west

0:00:42 > 0:00:45will eventually complete the change, if you like,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48and leave us all with some fresher air.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50But we're still going through that transition

0:00:50 > 0:00:52during the day on Wednesday.

0:00:52 > 0:00:53Quite a messy day,

0:00:53 > 0:00:54bands of thundery downpours

0:00:54 > 0:00:56pushing across the country.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59Eastern areas still very warm, quite humid -

0:00:59 > 0:01:0330, 31, maybe 32 degrees across East Anglia.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05More cloud, though, for western parts

0:01:05 > 0:01:06of England, for Wales.

0:01:06 > 0:01:07Could see some further thunderstorms

0:01:07 > 0:01:09turning up in North Wales,

0:01:09 > 0:01:10maybe eventually northwest England

0:01:10 > 0:01:11through the afternoon.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13A scattering of showers and thunderstorms

0:01:13 > 0:01:14across Scotland,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16and for Northern Ireland we'll see

0:01:16 > 0:01:17increasingly wet conditions

0:01:17 > 0:01:19spreading from the west. Again, there could be

0:01:19 > 0:01:21some thunder and lightning mixed in.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24But this rain is associated with that cold front

0:01:24 > 0:01:26that I showed you a moment ago.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29As these rain bands work quite erratically

0:01:29 > 0:01:31eastwards during Wednesday night and Thursday,

0:01:31 > 0:01:34eventually we will allow that fresher air

0:01:34 > 0:01:37to sweep its way in from the west.

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Actually, a lot of dry weather around on Thursday,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41but look at the temperatures.

0:01:41 > 0:01:42Way down on where they have been.

0:01:42 > 0:01:4317 in Glasgow,

0:01:43 > 0:01:47perhaps still up to 22 degrees there in London.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Through Thursday night into Friday,

0:01:49 > 0:01:51it looks like we're going to spin up this little area

0:01:51 > 0:01:53of low pressure and bring it in

0:01:53 > 0:01:55across the British Isles.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57Quite an unsettled look to the weather, I have to say.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00We'll see this band of rain working its way through.

0:02:00 > 0:02:01Some of that rain could be on the heavy side,

0:02:01 > 0:02:03blustery winds with that.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06Even once the rain band has cleared, some sunshine, yes,

0:02:06 > 0:02:08but also some showers pushing into the northwest.

0:02:08 > 0:02:1016-21 degrees.

0:02:10 > 0:02:11Low pressure stays with us

0:02:11 > 0:02:14into the start of the weekend.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17Just pivoting around on top of the British Isles,

0:02:17 > 0:02:18so there'll be further showers

0:02:18 > 0:02:20through the day on Saturday.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22Some spells of sunshine as well.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23But those temperatures -

0:02:23 > 0:02:25get used to values like these -

0:02:25 > 0:02:2715 to 21 degrees.

0:02:27 > 0:02:28Now for the end of the weekend,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31low pressure essentially stays in charge.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33It drifts a little bit further eastwards

0:02:33 > 0:02:34and allows high pressure

0:02:34 > 0:02:37to try to build its way in from the west.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39High pressure would of course change things

0:02:39 > 0:02:42back to a more settled weather set-up.

0:02:42 > 0:02:43So is that going to happen?

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Well, yesterday I showed you the jet stream.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48I showed you this bend in the jet stream.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51The jet stream bending its way northwards.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54This is where the high pressure sits, to the south of the jet.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57If this bend worked its way in across the British Isles,

0:02:57 > 0:03:00it would allow the high pressure to build its way in.

0:03:00 > 0:03:01But actually, through next week,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

0:03:03 > 0:03:05It looks like the jet stream will stay, essentially,

0:03:05 > 0:03:07right across the country.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10That will keep us very close to areas of low pressure.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12On balance, it looks most likely

0:03:12 > 0:03:15that low pressure will remain the dominant feature.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17So what does that mean next week?

0:03:17 > 0:03:21Well, it means some spells of rain, some drier intervals as well.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23That high pressure not too far away.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Fairly cool and often fairly breezy.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29So how will our weather change next?

0:03:29 > 0:03:30Well, join me at this time tomorrow.
