0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. We may be right in the middle of summer,
0:00:05 > 0:00:08but the weather has been feeling a bit autumnal almost
0:00:08 > 0:00:11across parts of the country over the past few days.
0:00:11 > 0:00:13We've had heavy rain, strong winds.
0:00:13 > 0:00:15Here's the scene in Devon. Teignmouth,
0:00:15 > 0:00:18taken by one of our Weather Watchers during Friday afternoon.
0:00:18 > 0:00:21Choppy waves, a lot of cloud bringing outbreaks of rain.
0:00:21 > 0:00:22It wasn't like that across the country.
0:00:22 > 0:00:25A very different scene in Suffolk.
0:00:25 > 0:00:28Blue skies, sunshine, but some cumulus clouds around.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30Through the weekend, we'll keep some sunny skies,
0:00:30 > 0:00:34but also those cumulus clouds likely to bring showers, heavy at times.
0:00:34 > 0:00:35And quite blustery.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38So a mixed picture as we head to the weekend.
0:00:38 > 0:00:40Low pressure is the driving force of our weather.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42It's drifting slowly northwards
0:00:42 > 0:00:44and eastwards across the country.
0:00:44 > 0:00:46So the heavy rain we saw on Friday
0:00:46 > 0:00:47will shift northwards
0:00:47 > 0:00:49and eastwards on Saturday.
0:00:49 > 0:00:52Tends to peter out here across northern England
0:00:52 > 0:00:53and southern Scotland.
0:00:53 > 0:00:54Further south, with the breeze
0:00:54 > 0:00:56rotating around the low pressure,
0:00:56 > 0:00:58that brings in further heavy showers
0:00:58 > 0:01:00across south-west England, south Wales
0:01:00 > 0:01:01and then those showers drift
0:01:01 > 0:01:04northwards and eastwards across the country.
0:01:04 > 0:01:05Scotland and Northern Ireland having
0:01:05 > 0:01:07the best of the dry and bright weather
0:01:07 > 0:01:09and temperatures up to around 21 degrees,
0:01:09 > 0:01:12so fairly fresh for the time of year.
0:01:12 > 0:01:13Moving into Sunday,
0:01:13 > 0:01:14in the early hours of Sunday,
0:01:14 > 0:01:17we've still got some showers around,
0:01:17 > 0:01:19but they drift away off towards the east.
0:01:19 > 0:01:20So an improved picture
0:01:20 > 0:01:22by the early hours of Sunday
0:01:22 > 0:01:23across parts of south Wales
0:01:23 > 0:01:25and south-west England.
0:01:25 > 0:01:26After a few days of heavy rain,
0:01:26 > 0:01:28Sunday should bring drier, sunnier weather.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31Still some scattered heavy downpours
0:01:31 > 0:01:33through parts of Wales, central England,
0:01:33 > 0:01:35perhaps a few across eastern Scotland.
0:01:35 > 0:01:37But northern Scotland and Northern Ireland
0:01:37 > 0:01:38again mostly dry and bright
0:01:38 > 0:01:41and showers fairly few and far between elsewhere.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44Temperatures around 19 to 22 degrees for most of us.
0:01:44 > 0:01:46Then, through Sunday night,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48that low pressure starts to drift away
0:01:48 > 0:01:49towards the near continent,
0:01:49 > 0:01:50heading off towards the east.
0:01:50 > 0:01:52The isobars come from a northerly direction,
0:01:52 > 0:01:54so the wind comes in along the east coast,
0:01:54 > 0:01:56quite cool for the likes of Aberdeen,
0:01:56 > 0:01:57Newcastle, for instance.
0:01:57 > 0:02:00Perhaps a bit of rain across the south-east.
0:02:00 > 0:02:01Should clear away,
0:02:01 > 0:02:03then a much brighter and drier picture
0:02:03 > 0:02:04as we head through the day.
0:02:04 > 0:02:06We've got a small ridge of higher pressure
0:02:06 > 0:02:08trying to creep in from the south-west.
0:02:08 > 0:02:10That keeps things quiet into Tuesday.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12So Tuesday probably one of the best days
0:02:12 > 0:02:14of the week in terms of dry, bright weather.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16Most places seeing some sunshine.
0:02:16 > 0:02:17It will feel reasonably warm
0:02:17 > 0:02:20with those temperatures up to around 25 degrees
0:02:20 > 0:02:22in the south-east, fresher further north-west.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25But high pressure doesn't stay very long.
0:02:25 > 0:02:27We'll see that squeezed away towards the south
0:02:27 > 0:02:28and that opens the doors
0:02:28 > 0:02:30for low pressure and fronts
0:02:30 > 0:02:32to start to move in again from the Atlantic
0:02:32 > 0:02:34through the middle of the week.
0:02:34 > 0:02:37For Wednesday we'll see cloud increase from the west
0:02:37 > 0:02:38after a mostly dry start.
0:02:38 > 0:02:40Should remain largely dry in the east.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42That band of rain will work gradually
0:02:42 > 0:02:44from west to east across the country.
0:02:44 > 0:02:48So from mid-week onwards, things turning unsettled once again.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51We'll see low pressure out to the north-west of the UK,
0:02:51 > 0:02:55still high pressure trying to move in from the south-west.
0:02:55 > 0:02:57That's the Azores high that you see there
0:02:57 > 0:02:58towards the south-west of the UK.
0:02:58 > 0:03:01It never really establishes itself later next week.
0:03:01 > 0:03:03Low pressure starts to move in from the north-west.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06So wet and windy weather, particularly across northern
0:03:06 > 0:03:08and western parts of the country.
0:03:08 > 0:03:10You're more likely to stay drier, less windy
0:03:10 > 0:03:12with a bit more sunshine
0:03:12 > 0:03:14the further south and east you are.
0:03:14 > 0:03:15So a bit of a mixed picture
0:03:15 > 0:03:18and changeable fortunes in terms of the weather later next week.
0:03:18 > 0:03:21But it's generally an unsettled, changeable outlook,
0:03:21 > 0:03:24with bands of rain interspersed with showers,
0:03:24 > 0:03:25often quite windy
0:03:25 > 0:03:28and things will stay rather cool for the time of year.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30We'll update you again tomorrow. Bye-bye.
