0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello, there. I wish I could bring you better news

0:00:04 > 0:00:05for this Week Ahead forecast,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08but I'm afraid to say it looks like summer is still on hold,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11as it's looking pretty unsettled, with outbreaks of rain for many.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13"Where's the heat gone," you wonder?

0:00:13 > 0:00:15Well, in the last week or so,

0:00:15 > 0:00:16as you probably know,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18it's been reserved for the south of Europe.

0:00:18 > 0:00:19The Mediterranean has seen

0:00:19 > 0:00:20a stifling heat wave,

0:00:20 > 0:00:21with temperatures ranging

0:00:21 > 0:00:23between 40 and 45 Celsius,

0:00:23 > 0:00:24and it's been very humid with it, too.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26It's caused all sorts of problems -

0:00:26 > 0:00:28but this is gradually on the way out,

0:00:28 > 0:00:30as well, and that's because

0:00:30 > 0:00:32the jet stream is diving south

0:00:32 > 0:00:33in towards the west

0:00:33 > 0:00:35in the Mediterranean, introducing cooler air -

0:00:35 > 0:00:37but near our shores,

0:00:37 > 0:00:38this kink in the jet stream

0:00:38 > 0:00:40could absorb an area of low pressure,

0:00:40 > 0:00:43which could be with us for quite a while.

0:00:43 > 0:00:44Things were quite unsettled

0:00:44 > 0:00:46at the weekend, as well. On Saturday,

0:00:46 > 0:00:47we saw sunshine and showers,

0:00:47 > 0:00:48some of them torrential,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50with hail and thunder across the south.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52On Sunday, we had an east-west split,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54with many southern and eastern areas

0:00:54 > 0:00:56enjoying some fine, dry weather

0:00:56 > 0:00:57with some sunshine.

0:00:57 > 0:00:58Further west,

0:00:58 > 0:01:00an area of low pressure moved in

0:01:00 > 0:01:02to bring wet and increasingly windy weather,

0:01:02 > 0:01:04initially to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:04 > 0:01:05Now, that weather front,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07bringing the wet weather across the west,

0:01:07 > 0:01:09will be straddling central parts of England

0:01:09 > 0:01:10in towards South Wales on Monday,

0:01:10 > 0:01:11maybe some heavy bursts of rain

0:01:11 > 0:01:12across the south-west,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14a little bit of brightness in the south-east,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16and, for Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19it looks like it will be a mixture of sunshine and showers.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21Now, this is the area of low pressure

0:01:21 > 0:01:22I was talking about,

0:01:22 > 0:01:24and that kink in the jet stream,

0:01:24 > 0:01:27which will move northwards into the North Sea,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29to very much influence our weather

0:01:29 > 0:01:30from Tuesday onwards.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32So, it looks like it's going to become

0:01:32 > 0:01:33very unsettled -

0:01:33 > 0:01:35in fact, active weather fronts

0:01:35 > 0:01:36could bring some very heavy rain

0:01:36 > 0:01:38to central, southern and eastern parts

0:01:38 > 0:01:40of England, in particular,

0:01:40 > 0:01:41and will start to pick up

0:01:41 > 0:01:43a north-easterly wind, as well,

0:01:43 > 0:01:46so, feeling cool along the North Sea coast.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48The further west that you are,

0:01:48 > 0:01:49the better chance of seeing

0:01:49 > 0:01:50a little bit of drier weather,

0:01:50 > 0:01:51maybe with some sunshine.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Now, as we head on in towards Wednesday,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55this vigorous area of low pressure

0:01:55 > 0:01:56will still be with us,

0:01:56 > 0:01:58very much influencing our weather,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00bringing strong northerly winds

0:02:00 > 0:02:01and bouts of heavy rain -

0:02:01 > 0:02:03but this area of high pressure

0:02:03 > 0:02:04wants to build in,

0:02:04 > 0:02:07and it will slowly push its way eastwards

0:02:07 > 0:02:09as we head on towards the latter part of the week.

0:02:09 > 0:02:10So, for Wednesday,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12not a pretty picture again.

0:02:12 > 0:02:13It's expected to be quite cool

0:02:13 > 0:02:16in northerly winds, heavy, maybe thundery rain

0:02:16 > 0:02:18affecting central and eastern areas

0:02:18 > 0:02:19throughout the day.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21A better chance of seeing some dry weather

0:02:21 > 0:02:22further west.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24That's because we'll see this area of high pressure

0:02:24 > 0:02:27starting to topple in from the south-west,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29and it will slowly push

0:02:29 > 0:02:31the cloud and the rain eastwards -

0:02:31 > 0:02:33but it will be a slow process.

0:02:33 > 0:02:34I think, on Thursday,

0:02:34 > 0:02:35East Anglia and the South East

0:02:35 > 0:02:37might hold on to that northerly wind

0:02:37 > 0:02:39and outbreaks of rain,

0:02:39 > 0:02:40but I think, generally speaking,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Thursday could be the best day of the week

0:02:42 > 0:02:45regards to drier, possibly brighter weather.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46Those temperatures not that impressive -

0:02:46 > 0:02:4916 to maybe 21 Celsius in the south-east.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51Now, as we head in

0:02:51 > 0:02:52towards the end of this week,

0:02:52 > 0:02:53it looks like the jet stream

0:02:53 > 0:02:55will steer some low-pressure systems

0:02:55 > 0:02:56into our direction,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58but the area of high pressure to the south,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00the Azores High,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02is likely to keep them focused

0:03:02 > 0:03:03across the north.

0:03:03 > 0:03:04So, we will have a north-south split

0:03:04 > 0:03:06as we had on in towards next weekend,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08with largely fine and dry conditions

0:03:08 > 0:03:09to the south,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11to the north, areas of low-pressure

0:03:11 > 0:03:12will bring bouts of rain

0:03:12 > 0:03:14and maybe some strong wind, at times, too.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16So, that's the summary

0:03:16 > 0:03:17to end the forecast.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19Some rain across northern areas,

0:03:19 > 0:03:20largely dry across the south,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22closest to that area of high pressure,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24but the main message is,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26no summery weather is going to occur.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28Looks like it's still going to be

0:03:28 > 0:03:29on hold for the time being.
